Marriott International and the Leali family, founders of Lefay, have announced plans to enter into a joint venture to bring the luxury wellness hospitality brand Lefay into the Marriott portfolio. Lefay will be the first brand in Marriott's portfolio dedicated exclusively to luxury wellness.
Founded in Italy in 2006 by Domenico Alcide and Liliana Leali, Lefay is known for its immersive resorts in natural settings and its proprietary Lefay Spa Method, which blends scientific research with holistic wellness traditions. The brand's philosophy centres on space, serenity, and sustainability and aims to redefine modern luxury through wellbeing and authenticity. The Lefay portfolio features two luxury resorts in Lago di Garda and Dolomiti in northern Italy.
Additionally, the brand's pipeline includes three properties under development in Tuscany, Southern Italy, and the Swiss Alps. All of Lefay's resorts will operate under long-term hotel management agreements within the new joint venture.

Clients can engage Lām independently or use it as the front end of a Mendil + Meyer project, translating the strategy into architecture and design. Meyer believes the separation between initial strategy and the design process creates better outcomes.

LONGEVITY
Chedi Andermatt partners with Asian health platform Humansa
Alpine resort The Chedi Andermatt, in Switzerland’s Usern Valley, has partnered with longevity platform Humansa to offer guests a way to integrate health insights into their experience at the destination.
Humansa Suisse will be the first European venture by the wider Humansa group, which is a precision health provider operating a network of health centres in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area of China. It has more than 100,000 clients across Asia and integrates advanced diagnostics and targeted therapies with lifestyle guidance to optimise healthspan.
NATURE
The new Humansa Suisse offering, which will be delivered at the resort’s Chedi Spa and Health Club, aims to provide resort guests with early insights to improve their healthspan, but in a more “gentle” delivery model, without the need for invasive longevity technologies.
Humansa Suisse sees this new partnership as the natural evolution of its business model, moving beyond dedicated health outlets into hospitality and destination settings. It hopes to make longevity more accessible rather than limiting its services to clinical environments.

When CPD openly acknowledges emotional complexity it removes much of the uncertainty therapists carry
Nick Kennedy, founder, Warm Oasis
Emotional complexities
How to deal with guests' feelings should be part of ongoing training and CPD
Spas are increasingly spaces where emotional care sits alongside physical wellbeing. Along with relaxation and restoration, therapists and spa teams are frequently encountering more clients who arrive carrying anxiety, vulnerability, burnout, or complex personal experiences. Yet in many cases, continuing professional development (CPD) has not quite caught up with this shift. Much of CPD quite rightly focuses on technical competence, compliance and treatment delivery.
■ Therapists would benefit from training in how to respond to disclosures
These are essential foundations. However, far less attention given to how therapists are actually supported when emotional complexity enters the treatment room.
Gaps in training
From what I see regularly in spa and wellness environments, the real gaps are often not about skill, but about confidence – in holding boundaries, responding appropriately to disclosures and understanding where a therapist’s role begins and ends. Without clear guidance, teams are often left to navigate this territory alone. Some worry about saying the wrong thing. Others feel unsure about safeguarding, liability or how much emotional responsibility they should be carrying. Over time, this can lead either to avoidance – shutting conversations down too quickly – or to therapists finding themselves edging into roles that feel uncomfortably close to counselling or healthcare. Neither of these extremes serves the spa environment well. At the same time, it's no longer

realistic to pretend that emotional complexity does not arise within spa settings. The challenge, therefore, is not whether spas should respond to this reality, but how they do so in a way that protects both clients and practitioners, while preserving the essence of the spa experience.
Education for safety
This is where well-designed CPD and standards can make a meaningful difference – not by medicalising practice, but by offering clear, confidence-building frameworks. Clinically informed education does not mean turning therapists into healthcare professionals. Instead, it can provide practical guidance around emotional safety, consent, boundaries and appropriate signposting, helping teams feel secure in what is expected of them –and equally clear about what is not.
When CPD openly acknowledges emotional complexity, it removes much of the uncertainty therapists carry. Rather than relying solely on instinct or personal resilience, teams are

supported by shared language and agreed professional standards. In turn, this helps reduce burnout, strengthens confidence and creates more consistent and safer experiences for clients.
Raising standards
Ultimately, good CPD should quietly raise the standard of practice. It should support therapists, protect the integrity of the spa environment and reassure clients that their wellbeing is being held within clear, ethical boundaries. By embracing education that reflects the realities of modern spa practice – without over-medicalising it – the sector has an opportunity to strengthen professionalism. while staying true to what spas are meant to off er: care, restoration and genuine wellbeing. ●

Basecamp Resorts increases its investment pipeline after the first Everwild wellness hotel and thermal spa outperforms expectations
Canadian operator, Basecamp Resorts, has revealed details for three new Nordic wellness hospitality properties under its Everwild brand and is increasing its investment in each to CA$50 million (US$37.5 million, €34.5 million, £29 million) from CA$20 million (US$15 million, €13.8 million, £11.6 million) per site.
At the end of last year, Basecamp Resorts unveiled the first Everwild concept property called Everwild Canmore. The site has a renovated 99-key hotel and a new 40,000sq ft thermal wellness facility that is expected to welcome 78,000
visitors annually. The spa’s installation cost CA$27 million (US$19.6 million, €16.8 million, £13.8 million).
Concept validation
Sky Mitchell, founder and CEO of Basecamp Resorts and Everwild, told Spa Business exclusively how strong performance in Canmore is validating the concept: “Canmore has surpassed every benchmark we set.
“Since opening in November, we’re tracking well above our spa guest targets, gross profit has significantly increased, and our hotel ADR (average daily rate) has exceeded budget – with occupancy also up year-over-year.
“What’s been exciting is seeing the halo effect in real time: the spa is driving direct hotel bookings higher and January alone came in well over budget, primarily from increased throughput. This kind of validation gives us enormous confidence as we open more locations in Fernie, Banff and Harmony.
"We know the model works – a spa-first destination that drives year-round demand, smooths out shoulder seasons and creates a compelling reason to visit the mountains in every season.
“Now it’s about scaling that thoughtfully across Western Canada and beyond,” added Mitchell.
■ Everwild Harmony will have sauna docks on the shores of Harmony Lake
■ Basecamp Resorts has a pipeline of three more Everwild developments across Canada
The investment
Mitchell is the general partner at the Wildwood Investment Fund, which was created to support the development of new Everwild properties. It operates as a separate entity to Basecamp Resorts and is structured as a limited partnership.
The fund, which stands at CA$20 million, is targeting a total equity raise of approximately CA$50 million for the three new sites under development across the country.

Waterfront wellness
Continuum Company has outlined plans for an immersive mixed-use waterfront development in Miami, US
New York City-based real estate developer, Continuum Company, has announced it will build a mixed-use development in Miami, US, with a 150,000sq ft waterfront wellness space for fitness, sport, wellness, leisure and social experiences. Continuum Company specialises in the ground-up development of large-scale mixed-use residential, commercial, hospitality and retail projects in New York, South Florida and Las Vegas.
The concept
The new Miami project in Biscayne Bay will be called Continuum 12000 Sport and Wellness Residences, based on its address – 12000 North Bayshore Drive. The developers will build on 1.5 acres of submerged land, 150,000sq ft of which will become an immersive waterfront experience.
Allie Eichner, president of Continuum Florida, said: “The reality is, that in Miami you’re surrounded by water, but you can’t get on it.
“At 12000, you won't just get a great view, you'll get a first-of-its-kind immersive waterfront experience.

blending the legacy of Continuum with the Mermaid Club’s waterfocused approach to wellbeing to create residences that elevate how you feel, operate, and experience life,” added Eichner.
The design
Construction on the project is due to begin in 2027, based on plans by Continuum’s existing design partners: architect Kobi Karb, interior designers Paul Duesing Partners and wellness-inspired landscaping specialist, Urban Root. The property will have a 20-storey glass tower housing 262 private residences with terraces and views of the ocean and the Miami skyline.
Amenities and facilities
Amenities will include a sports screening room, alfresco bar, dining
areas and a demonstration kitchen. Residents will also get yacht club and beach club memberships.
The Mermaid Club will have a spa and longevity centre, with contrast therapies such as cold plunges and infrared saunas. There will also be a 4,200sq ft fitness centre with Booty Builder equipment.
The facility will have an aquatic playground, a beach deck for yoga and relaxation, floating pools like those used by anchored superyachts, paddleboards, water toys and a 20-slip private marina.
Sports will be on offer at the Mermaid Club, with facilities for indoor pickleball, multi-sport courts, golf, multi-sport simulators and putting greens. ●

Yon-Ka Paris reveals SPF50+ Mineral Fluid
Yon-Ka Paris has developed a broad-spectrum suncream called SPF 50+ Mineral Fluid.
The formula, which is exclusively launching in the US for now, is designed for daily protection against 98 per cent of UVA and UVB rays.
It uses a solution containing 12 per cent nonnano zinc oxide, which provides a light-protective filter – reflecting UV rays to scatter their intensity.
Additional brightening, soothing and hydrating ingredients found within the formula include three per cent niacinamide, allantoin and bisabolol.
The fluid is described as weightless, fragrancefree, non-comedogenic and does not produce a white cast. It is also water-resistant for up to 80 minutes.
“However, after speaking with many operators about traditional cold plunges, we saw the need for a more convenient solution, and that was the genesis of this new technology.”
