The different experiences will focus on the Finnish concept of Sisu, which has no direct translation in English but refers to “a quiet and unshakeable courage that carries you through difficulty.” Red Bird House co-founders and co-owners Sallie Fraenkel and Wendy Bosalavage discovered the concept firsthand earlier this year on a visit to Finland. They invited Finnish storyteller, media executive and coach Reetta Ranta to co-facilitate this retreat in the Catskills forest location, which offers a winter landscape and natural surroundings that lend themselves to Finnish wellness traditions of stillness, contrast and restoration – and Sisu. This will be Ranta’s first retreat in the US, where she will lead the group in fireside storytelling, drumming and forest rituals. She lives in Fiskars, Finland’s wellknown artists’ village. In 2025 she published a book called Sacred Trees, which is about stories, rituals and mythological wisdom related to Finnish trees.

new model of social wellness is coming to London later this year, with Sonara integrating dining, thermal bathing, wellness treatments and socialising into a single extended experience. Describing itself as London’s first ‘Fine Bathing and Dining Club’, Sonara will open on King’s Road in Chelsea with a concept that makes food and social connection integral to the bathing journey, rather than ancillary services added to a spa or bathhouse. After changing into swimwear and robes, guests will be allocated a table in Sonara’s 80-cover dining room, which will remain their base throughout the visit. They will then move between their table, thermal experiences, treatments and relaxation areas – eating light dishes between

Guest journey The aim is to create an uninterrupted, multi-hour wellness experience in which eating, bathing, resting and socialising become part of the same ritual. The thermal journey will centre on a 30-person oaklined banya chamber, where traditional whisk-steaming rituals known as parenie will be carried out using handcrafted veniki made from birch, oak or fir.

Fire and Ice Reykjaböð Hot Springs is now open in Iceland, with a geothermal lagoon and premium adults-only bathhouse experience

A

n 8,000sq m geothermal destination spa, Reykjaböð Hot Springs, has opened at the base of the Valley in Hveragerði in Iceland, a 40 minute drive from Reykjavik. Three companies own an equal share in the development company Reykjaböð ehf, which was established to construct the bathhouse, lagoon and own the real estate. Those are Hveraberg, a tourism-focused development and investment company that also owns the nearby Greenhouse Hotel; an investment company called Dionysus; and tour operator Icelandia. These three companies also own a separate operating company, Reykjaböð Hot Springs ehf, which has been set up to manage the property. International spa and wellness consultant Katherine Connolly worked on the project

with architects Reykjavik Arkitektar, interior designer Hálfdán Pedersen and lighting designer Þórður Orri Pétursson. Connolly told Spa Business, “Together, the owners bring development experience, investment capability and a genuine understanding of Icelandic tourism. That combination has been important in creating something intended to become a lasting part of the region, rather than simply another visitor attraction.”

The guest journey She also said that Reykjaböð’s bathhouse is the first concept of its kind in Iceland. “It gives the development a very different dimension, taking the experience beyond the geothermal lagoon and into a more layered journey through heat, cold, water and rest.”

Reykjaböð combines a large geothermal lagoon with a smaller, “more elevated” indoor bathhouse experience. The facilities include the lagoon, a natural herbal pool and a float pool where guests can wear a head flotation support that provides a zero-gravity feel by Flothetta Cap. There is also a steamroom, infusion sauna, event sauna, experience showers by Aquaform, cold plunge, snowroom by TechnoAlpin Indoor, Kneipp pool, fire-pit relaxation area, and changing and shower facilities. Klafs supplied the sauna and steam facilities. There are three treatment rooms, including a couples’ room for massages, though the offering doesn’t revolve around spa treatments. Reykjaböð also features a restaurant, where seasonal dishes and drinks inspired by Icelandic ingredients are served. To protect the quality of the guest experience, the geothermal lagoon welcomes

a larger number of visitors and provides a more social experience in comparison to the bathhouse – where capacity is limited – allowing guests to move at their own pace. Children over the age of 10 can visit the hot springs but the bathhouse is only accessible to over-18s. The price of a day pass to the facility starts from ISK 7,900 (US$62, €53, £46).

The vision Connolly described the vision for the destination, “The lagoon and bathhouse have very different emotional qualities. The lagoon opens the guest outwards

towards the landscape, the weather and the enormous Icelandic sky. The bathhouse draws them inward, into a quieter and more intimate journey through temperature, scent, sound and ritual. “From the beginning, I did not want Reykjaböð to feel like a collection of facilities. I wanted every experience to lead naturally into the next. Guests might move from geothermal warmth into steam, from steam Spa Business Issue 510 ©Cybertrek Ltd 2026

REYKJABÖÐ

The lagoon and bathhouse have very different emotional qualities into snow or cold water and then return to warmth and rest. Some will choose a more intense contrast journey. There is no sense in having to complete a prescribed circuit. That freedom matters. The experience should invite people in, not challenge TAP OR SCAN them to prove something. “Most importantly, the concept has remained deeply rooted in Iceland.” ● http://lei.sr/K2L7k

Lip service he demand for non-invasive aesthetic alternatives is reshaping the professional skincare market. Consumers want visible, clinically-proven results without needles or lengthy recovery periods. At the same time, a growing focus on skin longevity has shifted attention from wrinkle correction towards preserving the skin’s structure, resilience and long-term health. For spas, this presents an opportunity to offer advanced treatments that combine immediate visible improvements with ongoing skin benefits. This demand has inspired G.M. Collin to develop its Hyaluronic Filler Collection – a range that uses hyaluronic acid to plump, firm and hydrate the skin while supporting its natural structure over time.

G.M. Collin is meeting consumer demand for non-invasive skin rejuvenation with the launch of its new Lip Plumping Oil

“Today’s consumers want skin that appears firmer, fuller and more resilient over time” Myriam Sayer, vice president, marketing and operations, G.M. Collin

The products help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, intensely hydrate, improve skin texture, minimise the appearance of enlarged pores and enhance skin suppleness for a smoother, softer and more youthful-looking complexion. “Today’s consumers are looking for more than wrinkle correction,” says Myriam Sayer, VP marketing and operations at G.M. Collin. “They want skin that appears firmer, fuller, healthier and more resilient. Our objective was to develop high-performance skincare inspired by the visible benefits of aesthetic procedures while remaining non-invasive.” By delivering immediate visible improvements, the collection gives therapists results-driven solutions aligning with consumer expectations.

The new Lip Plumping Oil from G.M. Collin

The newest addition, Lip Plumping Oil, extends the ‘Lift and Plump’ philosophy of the Hyaluronic Filler Collection to one of the face’s most delicate areas. Lips naturally lose volume, definition, hydration and elasticity as we age. Unlike the surrounding skin, they’re exceptionally thin, produce no natural oils and are continually exposed to environmental stressors, making them particularly vulnerable to dehydration and the appearance of fine lines. Recognising that lip care has become an important part of modern skincare, G.M. Collin developed this ©Cybertrek Ltd 2026 Spa Business Issue 510

dermocorrective lip treatment to go beyond the cosmetic benefits of a traditional gloss or balm. The formula combines clinically recognised technologies that work synergistically to deliver immediate and long-term visible benefits. G.M. Collin has also focused on creating a luxurious sensorial finish that encourages regular use and enhances client satisfaction. Lip Plumping Oil glides effortlessly onto the lips with a silky, non-sticky texture, leaving a delicate shine that enhances their natural colour while delivering lasting comfort. When incorporated into the wider Hyaluronic Filler Collection, Lip Plumping Oil completes the Lift and Plump ritual, visibly restoring hydration, smoothness and youthful-looking volume.

New services for spa operators

For spa operators, the collection offers an opportunity to respond to one of the industry’s fastest-growing trends: delivering clinically inspired, non-invasive skincare solutions that provide visible results while supporting long-term skin health. By combining advanced skincare science with luxurious treatment experiences, the collection helps professionals meet evolving client expectations with confidence. l More: www.gmcollin.com Spa Business Issue 510 ©Cybertrek Ltd 2026

The science of Lip Plumping Oil

l At the heart of the formula is Volulip, which support the skin’s natural structure to promote visibly fuller, smoother and better-defined lips. l Maxi-Lip – a biomimetic peptide – complements this by improving lip definition and helping restore a smoother appearance. l A gentle warming complex with Tocopheryl Nicotinate and Vanillyl Butyl Ether provides instant plumping immediately after application. l Hyaluronic Filling Spheres deliver long-lasting hydration, visibly reducing the appearance of fine lines. l Linefill helps improve the appearance of fullness and reduce the visibility of vertical lip lines. l A blend of ceramides, squalane and mango butter helps reinforce the skin’s lipid barrier and preserve hydration, leaving lips feeling softer, smoother and more comfortable.
