Alberto Apostoli completes thermal therapy centre at Terme Preistoriche

Terme Preistoriche Resort and Spa in Motegrotto Terme, Italy, has opened a thermal treatment centre designed by Studio Apostoli.

The new facility marks the most recent collaboration between Studio Apostoli and the resort. The architecture and design firm designed the property’s existing 1,200sq m Neró Spa, which opened in 2019. It also created a collection of zero-emission suites in 2023 and is redesigning the property's 47 guestrooms.

The new 550sq m wellness clinic is called the Thermal Treatments, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department. It was previously expected to be named the Neró Clinic: Wellness Revolution. The resort sees this new centre as a new way to provide cutting-edge treatments and personalised medical protocols in combination with its thermal traditions.

The department is set across two floors, with interiors inspired by the resort’s Art Nouveau style.

Charlotte Church launches online nature wellness course

Welsh music star, TV personality and activist, Charlotte Church, has launched an eight-part online wellness course called The Dreaming of the Earth for participants to learn how to connect with nature.

The course, led by Church herself, is described as a retreat that incorporates ritual, imagination, song and practices rooted in the earth.

Designed as an escape from 'the cacophony of modern life', the course will teach participants how to ground themselves in everyday life and nurture a sense of belonging in nature.

The 'land-led' series is advertised as an invitation to participants to be creative and curious, rather than striving for a sense of achievement. Guidance will be provided on using one’s hands to make things, singing, making a sacred space for themselves in nature, journaling and how to walk with intention.

Accor uses 'vibes' to define 2026 travel trends

ALL Accor (Accor’s booking platform and loyalty programme) has partnered with forecasting agency Globetrender to outline eight emotional drivers that represent changes to experiential and wellness travel in 2026.

Accor believes the future of the experience economy is based on how travel makes us feel.

This framework for the future of travel is based on the emotions or feelings the new experiences evoke – creating a vibe menu of emotional states.

Bhutan resort to host cultural retreat

Bhutan Spirit Sanctuary in Bhutan’s Neyphu Valley, has introduced a six-day all-inclusive wellness retreat with programming rooted in cultural traditions.

Guests staying at the 24-key resort will experience the property’s wellness philosophy, which derives from Traditional Bhutanese Medicine, via a variety of different experiences.

The agenda for the retreat, called Glimpse of Bhutan, starts with an intentionally quiet arrival ritual, as part of a Buddhist custom to practice being present.

CONCEPT

Corinthia London launches wellness concept, Biome

Corinthia London, the five-star hotel in the centre of the UK’s capital, has re-launched its urban spa with a new concept called Biome.

The concept stems from the idea of working with, and not against the body for holistic wellbeing.

Biome is part of the 279-key hotel’s integration of a new philosophy called Primal Luxury, which is an approach designed to provide a guest experience that combines instinct and intelligence, the healing rhythms of nature and modern science.

Described as an evolution of the spa’s offering, Biome has been created to provide guests

The Sanctuary has curated a series of activations, including yoga, meditation, hikes through the Neyphu Valley to visit monasteries and cultural landmarks, plus relaxing activities back at the resort.

with an ecosystem of expert care. This ecosystem manifests as a partnership with an initial three foundational companies that offer experiences combining expertise in nature, science and innate human potential. Over time, more partners will join Biome.

The three founding partners are skincare brands Wildsmith and Augustinus Bader; in addition to personalised fitness company AMP Fit.

What do your guests actually want to

experience while staying with you?

Marketplace confusion

Consultant Kirsty MacCormick says the industry needs a clarity reset

Who isn’t feeling the confusion around spa, wellness and now longevity? Even seasoned professionals are questioning what these terms truly mean today. Are we investing in equipment because our guests want it, or because we’re all afraid of being left behind?

Marketplace confusion

When I started in this industry 40 years ago, things were simple. We were therapists working

■ Guests may be confused if spas can't clearly define their o ering

in beauty departments. Then 'spa' arrived. A few beauty rooms, a sauna, a steamroom, a pool and a small gym suddenly qualified a property as having a spa. The experience was equally basic: beauty treatments, a quick dip, five minutes in the sauna and a run on a treadmill. It was enough – for that era.

Today, the stakes are higher, the market is noisier and the consumer is more informed. But with that evolution has come uncertainty. The terminology has expanded faster than our understanding. Spa, wellness, medical wellness, longevity, biohacking, immersive, regeneration… It’s no wonder the industry is confused – and if we’re not confused, our guests and sta certainly are.

This raises the question: what do guests actually want to experience while staying with you?

Are we adding facilities and chasing labels simply to keep up with trends? Too often, concepts are bolted on without strategy, without integration and without an understanding of what creates value for the guest or the business.

Take sleep programmes – they’re everywhere and while sleep is undeniably important, perhaps

■ Spas could be investing in expensive equipment to keep up with trends

we’re narrowing our focus too much. Instead of replicating the same concepts as every other hotel, should we be concentrating more on the experiences guests can actively engage in? Experiences that bring people, couples and families together. Experiences that inspire curiosity, stimulate creativity and offer moments of genuine connection and community.

Experience design

Wellbeing isn’t only about slowing down. It’s equally about feeling alive: through ritual, play, nature, movement, culture and shared moments. When we design opportunities for guests to participate, not just receive, the experience becomes far more memorable and meaningful. We’ve spent years examining global behaviour, market data and the shift in guest priorities. The result is clear: wellness is no longer a department – it’s a project-wide positioning strategy. It touches food, fitness, sleep, design, scent, sound, nature, rituals and even the way people move through space. Spa and

What the industry needs now is clarity, honesty and commercial intelligence

wellness doesn’t live behind a door anymore. It is woven into the DNA of the entire asset.

And yet, the market is still filled with 'spas' that are little more than treatment rooms with a pool, passed off as wellness. Is a recalibration needed: a clearer definition of what qualifies as spa, what qualifies as wellness and what truly earns the right to be called longevity?

What the industry needs now is clarity, honesty and commercial intelligence. We need to build concepts that are meaningful, relevant and commercially viable. They should be supported by immersive design thinking and offer truly engaging guest experiences. Otherwise, it won’t just be the industry feeling the confusion; our guests will, too. ● *NB: bbspa is a registered trademark of BBSpa Group

Desert revival

The spa at JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort now celebrates the rarity of water in the Sonoran Desert

The treatments are organised into four Pathways to Wellbeing, tailored to guests’ specific goals

The Spa at JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort and Spa in Arizona, US, has re-opened following a US$25m (€23 million, £19.8 million) transformation.

The 453-key resort’s spa has retained its 32,000sq ft footprint but the design has been reimagined to incorporate elements that reflect the beauty of the surrounding Sonoran Desert, while adhering to the resort’s brand new Arivéa philosophy.

This concept o ers guests a holistic approach to wellness that blends personalised rituals with timeless traditions, respect for the preciousness of the location’s water and the significance of stillness in the desert.

Facilities

Bradford Wellness has designed the 20-treatment room spa’s new immersive indoor wellness circuit featuring a Himalayan salt sauna, aromatherapy steam cavern, experiential cold therapies, limestone infrared loungers and a sunlit solarium with an 18-person vitality pool.

Relaxation areas include The Sanctuary, for quiet contemplation and the Stillness Lounge – which

There is also a secluded private pool suite, called The Villa, which has a double treatment room, heated vitality pool and lounge patio for couples or cosy groups up to 10 people.

A Nail Lounge for manicure and pedicure services and a boutique complete the mix.

The new Wellness Studio has a schedule of programmes for sound baths, guided meditation,

Guests can also access the resort’s 24-hour fitness centre, which has been redesigned to house Technogym equipment, Peloton bikes, strength training zones and areas for personal training.
