Conservation Cleaning Volunteer Purpose To support the preventative conservation of Leighton House and Sambourne House Museums by assisting with the careful cleaning and maintenance of their historic interiors, objects, and collections. Working closely with the Conservation and Collection team, you will play a vital role in preserving these unique spaces for future generations. This role provides an opportunity to learn hands-on conservation cleaning techniques and gain insights into the care of historic houses, their archives and collections.

Key Responsibilities As a Conservation Cleaning Volunteer, you will: •

Assist with the delicate cleaning of historic interiors, including furniture, textiles, ceramics, and other objects using approved conservation techniques and materials.

Help monitor the condition of objects and spaces, noting any signs of damage or wear and reporting them to the team.

Develop an understanding of preventative conservation practices and follow conservation cleaning protocols at all times.

Become familiar with the history of Leighton House and Sambourne House and their collections to better understand the importance of conservation efforts.

Work alongside the Conservation and Collection team to ensure health and safety standards are upheld while handling fragile materials.

Participate in team efforts to document cleaning activities and maintain an inventory of materials used.

Assist with seasonal deep cleaning projects and preparation for special events or exhibitions as required.
