The Progress Association has been actively working towards improving the amenity of Inverleigh for over 40 years. Of course all such organisations need volunteers and the Association is no exception. Without them nothing happens. If you have some ideas for the town you would like to achieve, you are welcome to join us and help achieve them. Some of the projects completed by the Progress Association include: The Federation Bridge which was built to commemorate the centenary of Federation in 2001. Walking Tracks were established with lots of support from the community, including fencing and tree planting. Public Toilets Progress Association members worked for many years with Council to have the old toilets removed and a new block built, which did not detract from the entrance to our town. They are used more than any other toilets in the Shire. The Clock a new clock was recently installed on the clock tower in our main street, clearly visable from the General Store across the road. Town Entrance Signs. IPA worked for many years to procure the 2 Entrance Signs (Hamilton Highway East and West) welcoming travellers to our town.
The Inverleigh Historical Society was formed in 2004. It operates under the auspices of the Inverleigh Mechanics Institute and Public Hall Committee. Our Aims are to collect and preserve items of local historic interest and to promote research and interest in local history. We welcome all donations to our collection or the opportunity to copy material. We are most grateful to the many people who have kept the Historical Society in mind as they sorted through their own collections. We undertake many interesting projects and have enjoyable meetings, which you are welcome to attend.

Challenging times for us all again! I'm not sure when I will be able to issue the printed copy of the Leigh News due to the current lockdown, but will do my best to get it into the shops and cafes as soon as I can. And we were going along so nicely too, being safe and socially distanced. A lot of work has gone into the Book Bazaar, and it's all ready to go as soon as lockdown is over. As soon as you hear that it can go ahead, please come along and check out all the great reading material on offer. Don't hold back because the more that is sold on the days, the less to clear up after the event. So great to hear whats happening with the youth Pop Up in Inverleigh. A big shout out to those involved in organizing these events, but especially to the regular attendees. And in case you didn't know, Dorothy and I are residents of Inverleigh again. We have left Pleurisy Plains and moved back to Inverleigh, into our forever home. I'll give you a wave as I walk around the village.
DELWP Recognition Award for Bruce McDonald - 50 years ser vice to the Inverleigh Hall

Bruce McDonald, President of the Inverleigh Public Hall Committee and Mechanics Institute, received a DELWP recognition award at an online event on Monday May 17th. The event celebrated volunteering and the valuable and vital role that volunteers play in managing reserves and halls in the care of DELWP. Bruce has served on the hall committee for 50 years. Way back in 1971 Bruce wrote to the Hall Committee asking for improvements to the toilets at the hall, which were ‘out the back’. Invited to attend a meeting to explain his ideas, he joined the committee and has been working on it for the hall and the community ever since. Bruce was elected President in 1997, at a time when further extensions were being considered. He, supported by the committee and the community, led the building project which resulted in the new kitchen, storerooms, community room and verandahs which we all enjoy today. Bruce is a hands-on president and a tireless worker who contributes in all areas from consulting with shire personnel, to meeting with the energy auditor in preparation for solar panels, to unblocking the toilets, to preparing grant applications and to cooking for community breakfasts. Bruce has many fine personal qualities which have enabled him to lead with respect for and trust in others and the range of skills that they bring, and which are needed, to make up an effective committee. Bruce’s fellow committee members nominated him for his award, which was 'In recognition of 50 years exceptional service to the Inverleigh Hall Committee and the local community', and held a celebration and presentation to coincide with the DELWP event. Bruce, in his acceptance speech, said that it is always the whole committee that achieves things, never one person, and that the award belongs to all the people who have served on the Public Hall Committee over the 50 years as well. Inverleigh Public Hall – Committee Election for 2021 – 2024. The public meeting for the triennial meeting of the Inverleigh Public Hall Committee was held on May 10th. President, Bruce McDonald, gave his report which outlined achievements over the last three years including refurbishing the timber floors, conversion of the main hall and supper room to LED lighting, painting the exterior, the energy audit in anticipation of the installation of solar panels, Australia Day community breakfasts, the Book Bazaar and hosting the Golden Plains Shire Youth Pop Up Spot, and recognised the many volunteers who have assisted in hall projects and mowing. Councillor Clayton Whitfield, who conducted the election, remarked on the excellent facilities at the hall complex and the wonderful condition in which they are maintained. He congratulated the past committee on their dedication and commitment as volunteers. The following people were elected to the Inverleigh Public Hall and Mechanics Institute Committee of management for the next three years - Bruce McDonald, Presi-
dent, Christine Windle, Secretary, Anne-Maree Tarbett, Treasurer and Bookings Secretary, with committee members being Katrina and Keith Robson, Eliza Peel, James Manche, Sara Goodman and Heather Spiller. It is very pleasing that we now have the maximum number of members allowed by DELWP on the committee, allowing for a broad range of skills and interests to be used in the service of the hall and the community. 4 Leigh News Inverleigh Youth Pop Up Space Report The Youth Pop Up Space at the Inverleigh Hall on Wednesdays has continued to be well attended. It is running for young people from 10 – 18 years old during term 2. Here are some thoughts about the youth pop up space: Libby (13) It's so nice to see my friends since we've gone to different high schools. I love seeing everyone in person, rather than through a screen like last year. I like being able to do things at youth club that we don't have at home like table tennis and compete on the Nintendo! Alex (16) I really enjoy going down to the youth club as it’s always so interesting and upbeat, with different activities each week. People are able to catch up with each other after everyone has gone different ways at school. It's also really exciting that we are asked for our opinions on what activities to have each session so that makes it even better. Maddy (12) I enjoy youth club because it puts me in a happy and safe environment. Youth group is such a fun place to be! I think everyone should come and try it at least once. Inverleigh Community Survey - Youth Facilities and Services 2021 A short survey was put together by community members on behalf of the Inverleigh Progress Association, when it was identified that the youth could be better supported in our community. It was open for public consultation throughout February 2021 and attracted 192 responses. The purpose of the survey was to help determine what facilities and services are needed in Inverleigh to cater specifically for youth aged between 12 - 20 years old. The results will assist the Inverleigh Progress Association in lobbying and seeking funding for improved youth facilities and services for the Inverleigh town ship. Inverleigh Youth Pop-Up Space
Councils Youth Team has launching its first Pop-Up Youth Space in Inverleigh and so far it has been a huge success with up to 50 youth attending weekly. Pending any further COVID restrictions the Pop-Up Youth Space will be open on Wednesday afternoons in Term 2 from 3.30 to 6.30pm and young people aged 10 to 18 are encouraged to attend. The space will be supervised by our Youth Development staff and a range of activities will be offered, including gaming consoles, table tennis, board games and music equipment, as well as healthy food and drinks. The Inverleigh Seniors were guided by Matthew Leach along the Kevin Hoffman walk, located in Lara, for their recent monthly outing. Matthew and the Hoffman walk were recently shown on the ABC Gardening Australia Show, and our visit highlighted the many hours of voluntary work by Kevin Hoffman, Matthew and many other volunteers over the years.
Predominantly Australian Native Plants, many local indigenous species, the display, even at the very start of winter, was quite breathtaking. Commenced in 1971, Kevin began the development of the walk along the bank of Hovells Creek. At the time, Corio Shire Council were the governing local body and assisted with the development, primarily by installing a reticulated watering system as well as donating some Native plants to the project.

The Seniors group met at the Lara Hotel for Lunch and following a hearty meal, Matthew Leach spoke about the development of the walk over the years right up to the present time where the area itself is now almost full of plants. This hasn't always been the case with setbacks such as a major flooding of the area in 1973. Rabbits have also been on ongoing challenge. It was interesting to note that "Paper Daisies" are also intermingled with the native plants. The Daisies are very sensitive to having the correct supply of water and show up any impending issues with the irrigation system prior to problems developing with the native plants. As a group, we thoroughly enjoyed the day out and highly recommend others enjoying the experience of the Kevin Hoffman Walk. (Peter Trevaskis)
RECENT TRACKING DOGS TRIALS HELD IN INVERLEIGH Leigh News 9 All types of dogs, with all types of owners, decended on Inverleigh and district for local trials for tracking dogs. Owners have trained there magnificent animals in the art of tracking (by scent) and various judges put the dogs and their owners through their paces, awarding certificate and ribbons to those successful.
Have you ever noticed the markers with flags in the paddocks on Harvey Road as you go to Bannockburn? I have and often wondered why they were there. The central meeting point for the Trials was Victoria Park in Inverleigh with many competitors camping there in their caravans for the duration of the trials. There were several active sites around Inverleigh, including the Common and several local properties as well as the properties on Harvey Road. I met and spoke with several of the competitors on the Sunday, including some who had just received their certificates and ribbons. They proudly introduced me to their 4 legged companions, and while the dogs were obviously excited to have been able to chase around paddocks and/ or the common, none of that matched the excitement and sense of pride of the owners who had just collected their awards for a job well done. 2021 June calendar – Murgheboluc Reserve
Nestled in the Murgheboluc valley is this prominent bluestone building, photographed in 2020 by Bronwyn Price. Accessed from the Hamilton Highway, previously the Great Western Road and the Lower Leigh Road, this location was part of a holding reserve for the droving of sheep and cattle. As with many aboriginal location names, translation to English sounds leads to various meanings and for Murgheboluc there are three. “Murgha” meaning shield and “Boolok” a lake. “Brightness of two waters” being the junction of two rivers, and yet again “plenty of frogs” which gives the nickname of the Murgheboluc Cricket team (now located in Geelong) as The Frogs. Currently under the guidance of the Murgheboluc Reserve and Hall Committee of Management the building is a popular venue for weddings, anniversaries and family celebrations, weekend gatherings and private singing lessons. Over the years it has hosted Blues Festival, Full Moon Drumming, the circus, the home ground for cricket and tennis, local community functions such as farewells and welcome homes. Everything that a local hall provides in a community. A well recounted story is of the time the hall was hosting the monthly euchre night, a hard playing group of card sharps concentrating on their game, and a scrumptious supper awaiting in the kitchen. Sadly, the supper
apart from a plate of cheese sandwiches, was removed from the venue without anybody noticing. Opening in 1875, building began as state school #1570 replacing the St Andrew’s church/ school just visible in the photo on the hill to the west. The previous school had problems with the water being polluted from the shingles and overheating in summer. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the new building and the fireplace, with a curved arch requiring to be built to help remove smoke from the schoolroom. Schoolchildren numbers fluctuated over the years with up to 100 students in the building but after The Great War full time was intermittent and the school closed in 1934. The building as originally constructed then became the public hall and with its generous land area including the cricket oval and tennis courts continued to serve the local residents until numbers dwindled. In 2000 a larger annex and indoor toilets were welcome improvements. The current committee is Chris Hosie, Elizabeth McKay, Kevin Welton, Neil Winter, Terry Hickleton, Raelene Welton and Fiona Inglis as booking secretary. normally carried out by the men. Some of this work was very strenuous on these young bodies and many suffered in later life. Keith was keen to serve his country so as soon as he turned 18, he enlisted in Geelong, where his family now lived. His parents had lost their house in Colac during the Depression on the 1930’s and moved to Geelong in the hopes of his father being able to find work. From his enlistment he was transferred to Royal Park Camp in Melbourne where he commenced his orientation into the Army way of life. From here he was then transferred to Cowra NSW where basic infantry training was executed. After completing this training, at the age of 18 years and 6 months he was then transferred to Singleton NSW. In those days men weren’t allowed to be sent overseas for active duty until they were 18 years and 10 months. In the following months he was then transferred to Canungra QLD. Recently, at a meeting of the Golden Oldies Mens Group of Bannockburn, Keith Evans was pre sented with his Service Medals by RSL District President, Mr Deema Johnson. Harold "Keith" Evans was born on the 3rd January 1927 in Colac, Victoria. The 2nd World War was declared in 1939 and many of the men and older boys aged 18 years and over enlisted to serve their country. So the boys that were unable to enlist stayed home and helped with the everyday jobs that were

Keith had successfully completed his training as was excited to be deployed into active service when war was declared over in September 1945. Bandiana (Wodonga) where he was moved into the Transport Section before he was discharged in December 1946. Keith always said how he should have stayed in the Army because he liked the life. It is only this year that, through a dear friend, Keith applied for his Service Medals. He received the War Medal 39-45, Australian Service Medal 39-45 and the General Service Badge. Keith will now be able to proudly wear them next ANZAC day and also on Remembrance Day in November this year.

As we come out of the Covid-19 protocols for protection, which seemed more stringent for congregations in churches, we are in catch-up mode for those who have been holding back on the pastoral office and sacrament of weddings. There is, I think, a difference between marriage and weddings although, even the prayer book, tends to use marriage to describe the two. I began to think about this distinction when we were talking about marriage equality. Then I began arguing against the term ‘marriage equality’ because what was really meant was ‘wedding equality.’ Let me try to explain it this way: marriage is a relational term; it speaks of the relationship between a couple. Marriage is what we describe as a covenantal relationship. Therefore, most of the couples that come to me for marriage preparation are already married because they are living together in that covenantal relationship. In this preparation time we intend to help couples identify the strengths in their relationship and also those areas they can grow. However, in the service, commonly called The Service of Marriage, is where the couple, in a church before a religious celebrant, make promises to one another before God, the gathered congregation, and sign the legal documents to be registered at Births, Deaths and Marriages.
This is the wedding; the legal aspect of their relationship. Unfortunately, the focus of debate on equality of marriage caused an outcome of thinking of marriage as a legal recognition of relationship; a shift from a covenantal relationship to a contract relationship. It is important that we honour marriage as relationship and the legal aspect as the wedding. I am trying to change the way that I speak about the two to honour this distinction. I also think this confusion is a part of the problem for how the community views the church for maintaining the original understanding of marriage as being between a man and a woman. A wedding, however, being the legal equality that was sought, can be for any couple. POLICE REPORT FOR MAY 2021
Hello all, I wish to give a reminder to residents to keep residences and vehicles locked when unattended, please do not leave cars running with keys in them outside the shop etc. We have had some incidents in the area in recent years where goods have been taken and cars stolen when simple security measures might have prevented the crime. Some feedback local Police have received from detectives investigating crimes in the surrounding areas is that many residents in rural towns are still leaving vehicles and houses unlocked. Please look after your property so you don’t become a victim of crime. I have recently found some youths riding bikes around the town during school hours when they should have been at school! I have worked at a lot of stations including Oakleigh, Heidelberg, Dandenong, St Kilda, Preston and Geelong before transferring here and I have had a lot of dealings with youth and I know the signs when youth are becoming a bit wayward. Police and Teachers can only do so much in guiding youth and enforcing rules and behaviours, the biggest influencers on a child’s upbringing are their parents. Earlier this year I had an underage youth drinking alcohol in the Bannockburn heart playground do a runner on me. I rang his mother and she thought he was up in bed until I insisted she check and she found he was not. She had no idea he was hanging around in Bannockburn. I have seen this numerous times over the years, parents not having a clue where their children are, who they are hanging around with and what they are getting up to! Don’t let this happen with your children please. I have mentioned this before but in recent years we have had a several instances of damage
in the both the Teesdale and Inverleigh school grounds and most of that could have been avoided by some parent supervision. The most worrying example was the burning of offensive symbols in the wooden pine posts on the Inverleigh primary school playground. The offensive symbols weren’t the only concern, a lighter being used to burn the symbols is a bigger concern to Police and would also be a worry for the CFA. Recently Bannockburn has had a couple of fires lit near their school grounds which are currently under investigation. Children should not be in possession of fire lighters or matches. In this day and age parents also need to be aware what children are doing on the internet, who they are having contact with and what sites they are browsing. Recently it has been brought to my attention an incident where young children were allegedly inappropriately accessing other children’s social media sites and allegedly posting inappropriate material. Inappropriate behaviour on the internet can constitute cyber bullying in certain circumstances and can lead to enforcement action being taken. I have received reports of cars speeding along Cemetery Road, Dundas Street, Common Road Inverleigh, Jollys Road and Todd Street Teesdale and so you will be seeing me in those areas. I recently observed while I was sitting off another address a car turn into McCallum road from Railway Street and quickly accelerated to 72 km/h heading West. The default speed limit in residential areas is 50 km/h unless otherwise signposted. Please don’t let it be you I am having that awkward conversation with for speeding. The minimum fine is $330 with 3 demerit points. Keep safe Chris

You may have noticed as you drive past the school the new building along the Main Road. This Mod 5 building has been supplied to house our ever growing population of students. These classrooms will be used by the Foundation students for the remainder of 2021. Much to the delight of all students they were dropped into place by crane. Prompting great discussions about construction and building. We can’t wait to see the foundation students make this area their own with high quality school work , beautiful artworks, and the beginnings of making great, life-long friendships.

Whole School Reading Approach
Foundation to year 6 are focussed on decoding our wonderful language to achieve the best possible literacy outcomes. Foundations students are enjoying a new range of decodable readers. Books they can read independently by decoding the words using the sounds learnt in class. The new readers are wonderful Australian texts that are contemporary and relevant to our students lifestyle and what they are familiar with. A great resource to develop a love of reading at an early age. Other books to read are available on school iPads and are suitable up to the senior years. Many include the interests pertinent to our country kids. Motorbike riding, camping, spotlighting and visiting grandparents are an example of the texts. This whole School approach to literacy is proving to be very successful and enjoyable. Leigh News Feeling the chill at the moment? While heating your home, it's important to make sure that you take some basic steps to keep you and your family safe because on average, there are 3,000 house fires in Victoria each year. Most could be prevented by taking simple precautions. Let’s look at some specific areas:(1) Kitchen The most common place in the home where fires start is the kitchen. Many kitchen fires are caused by cooking that has been left unattended. Others are caused by electrical faults and flammable items like paper towels and curtains that are too close to sources of heat like the stove or toaster. If the cooking area isn’t kept clean a fire that starts on the stove can very quickly spread to built-up grease and fat around the stove and range hood, with the fire travelling up into the roof and to the rest of the house. (2) Sleeping areas Many fires that result in people dying start in bedrooms or lounge areas. Often this is due to improper use of electrical appliances or home heating. Electrical items in the home can include the power supply, fixed or portable appliances, power boards and extension leads.

(3) Heating During the colder months there’s an increase in the use of heating appliances, gas and electric. If you bring a portable heater into a bedroom be sure that it is well away from things that can burn, like clothing, bedding and curtains and always turn it off when you get into bed or leave the house. If you’re drying clothes in front of a heater of any kind, always keep them at least a metre from the heater. (4) Powerboards Sometimes there are not enough power outlets for all our devices. Power boards are becoming more common than ever. It’s important to remember that power boards are only meant to be temporary and they shouldn't be a permanent fixture in your home. Power boards can only take a limited number of devices so only plug in one device per outlet. Never plug double adapters or extra power boards into a power board and don’t plug high powered appliances like heaters into a power board or extension lead. Doing so can cause the power board or extension lead to heat up and start a fire. OK so what else can you do?

22 Leigh News SHELFORD PRIMARY SCHOOL It has been another busy month at Shelford, and the students have continued to show willingness to participate in every activity they are given the opportunity to. All the students from grades 3-6 chose to participate in the inter school cross country competition. Everyone represented the Shelford colours with pride, and even though we did not receive any ribbons on the day, every student achieved their goal of finishing the race. Well done to all of you. Once again, the students of Shelford Primary joined with Meredith Primary students for an excursion. This time it was to Earth Ed in Mount Clear which stimulates students through engaging, real-world experiences and aims to inspire and encourage students to pursue STEM-related careers. The upper students investigated fossils, with the students excavating fossils from sand and identifying the fossils. They also looked at joining individual bones together to create their own dinosaur fossil. The junior students created circuits using plasticine, wires, and batteries. They also programmed robots to complete a maze using simple commands such as forwards, backwards, left, or right. As we do every year, we celebrated the special ladies in our lives on Mothers’ Day. The students made a wonderful Exploding Box for their mothers which contained messages about why they love and appreciate them. They also painted mini plant pots and gave them to their mothers with succulents in them. Lots of time had been put into this project and the students were so proud when they presented them to their Mums on the Sunday.
We joined up with the students of Meredith Primary to compete in the Winter Sports competition. Our students participated in soccer and netball. Despite none of the students having played in any of their chosen sports before, they had fun and enjoyed the social aspect of the day. Thanks must go to the Meredith Primary students for accommodat-
ing us and making us feel welcome. Since the third season of Lego Masters has been televised, the students have been keen to show off their own skills in using these coloured bricks. These are great tools for encouraging the use of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in the classroom. The students were able to either follow an instruction booklet to make something, or to sketch out what they wanted to create and use this for their own plan. It was wonderful seeing where their little minds took them. Looking forward to seeing what the month of June brings for us, as the temperatures continue to decrease, more opportunities arise for learning. Take care and keep warm.

Farming For Our Future – Future Proofing Your Land The Geelong Landcare Network is planning a series of events to introduce land managers to a more ecological way of farming. The series is focused on various aspects of “Farming For Our Future.” The first of these is an online webinar on Tuesday the 22nd of June at 7pm. entitled “Future Proofing Your Land”. This is a free forum that can be attended in person or online. The webinar will explore principles that can be put in place to improve ecological functions on your farm. This forum will feature Dr. Wendy Seabrook, founder and CEO of Learning From Nature, an organisation dedicated to develop-

Ryker's wee problem
Meet 'Ryker, a lovely (although not very fond of
having his photo taken) Border Collie Cross who came to us recently when his mum noticed he was dribbling a bit of urine. He was otherwise quite happy, still eating well and was seen to urinate although not with the normal amount of flow-more of a slow trickle. This progressed, to him continually dripping urine which occasionally had a slight pink tinge to it. Examination of Ryker revealed he had a large bladder. On palpation and squeezing, some urine would dribble out. It was decided to take a radiograph of Ryker's abdomen to assess his bladder. What was found on Ryker's X-ray wasn't entirely expected! A lateral X-ray of Ryker revealed a large bladder, and a series of small bladder stones lodged in his urethra! The white line you can see in the x-ray is actually the 'os penis' a bone that runs down the length of a dogs penis. The stones are wedged along the tube that runs from Ryker's bladder to the tip of his penis. This tube runs underneath the os penis and you can tell from this image, his urethra is quite stretched. Ryker was taken to surgery to have stones removed, but how to remove them presented a few different options. 1. Pass a urinary catheter into the urethra and flush with saline to push the stones back into the bladder and then surgically remove the stones from the bladder. Problems presented with this option can be that the stones will not budge, or trauma may lead to the tearing of the urethra. 2. The least favourable option is to surgically remove the stones from his urethra by cutting down over the stones, removing them and suturing the urethra closed again. A complication of this type of procedure can result in what is called a stricture. The muscles that make up the urethra are very prone to this complication if they are cut and sutured back together. A stricture is a narrowing of a tube, that in the case of the urethra can lead to life threatening conditions .

During the month of July we will be offering discounted desexing on all pets.
Option 1 was chosen. Firstly a very narrow and thin catheter was passed through Rykers urethra and into his bladder. This was to drain the bladder of urine as we were going to be adding fluid during the flushing process. We certainly didn't want the bladder to become so full it ruptured! A much larger catheter was then passed up Rykers urethra until it hit the stones (and yes, our male vets eyes were watering at this stage!). We then started a slow flushing process with serial radiographs to check how the progression of the stones was going. The 2 X-rays below show some of the stones flushed into his bladder with some remaining in the urethra and then after subsequent flushing it shows them all safely back in the bladder! Note the much larger bladder size between the 2 pictures showing the amount of saline needed to flush the bladder and the importance of emptying it first.
Desexing your pet helps to reduce the number of homeless pets and also reduces the risk of serious health problems. Desexing will not alter your pets basic personality. Contact the clinic on 52811 221 for further information.
Once the stones were all flushed back into the bladder, the bladder was surgically opened and the stones removed. One final post surgery X-ray was taken to ensure no stones remained! Ryker was kept in hospital overnight with a urinary catheter in place to ensure his bladder remained empty so that no stress was placed on the sutures in the bladder. The next day the catheter was removed and he was monitored throughout the day. We are very happy to report that late in the afternoon he produced a big wee with a good stream and no dripping of urine afterwards! The stones retrieved from Ryker's bladder have now been sent to a lab in America for analysis. This is because the stones can be made up of different minerals/ salts, and so identifying the cause helps us to prevent the problem occuring again. Usually a special diet is required to keep the pH of the bladder at the level that will prevent crystals from forming.

G'Day from the Golden Penners. This month we are are going to profile one of our members. Gordon lives in the fine hills of Shelford, he and his partner decided recently that a tree change was for them, the house that they now live in became available so they, and their 2 little dogs moved in and they have been calling Shelford home for about 2 years now. Gordon hails from the misty shores of Scotland, but he has been living the Australian dream for many years now. Gordon found out about us from the Inverleigh newsletter and he emailed us and we welcomed him warmly. It was nice for us to have a new voice to add to our group. Gordon is a fine writer, we found that out straight away and we all look forward to hearing the pieces that he completes for homework. He is also a bit of a card, especially if our subject matter is of a humorous nature, he introduced a character in one of his pieces that the whole group took to and for several meetings that character appeared in other members stories as well. It caused all types of guffawing at our meetings, thankfully the room we use at the library has a door or the library staff might have had to throw us out for making way to much noise. Gordon is also a budding amateur photographer and he has already taken a series of photos of another member of our group, which I
must say are very good. He certainly has a few fingers in a few pies. So accordingly it is a poem that Gordon wrote that is our feature piece this month, even though he will openly admit poetry is not one of his strong points, but we, at our group are encouraging him as much as we can. So til next month happy writing............
