DEAR READERS, Photography is certainly the most popular hobby in the world; and now, with mobile phones, it’s more popular than ever. There are billions of pictures out there, so it makes sense to have lighthouses to serve as beacons to guide us through this torrential flood of images. Photography awards are like lighthouses that show us the way; and I believe that the Leica Oskar Barnack Award, as one of the oldest awards, is one of the most distinguished. It draws a large numbers of participants and continues to teach us new things about the art of photography. This year, for the first time we have a Public Award, chosen by voters on the www.i-shot-it. com website (Page 4). As for the main awards, the jury has made an outstanding effort – we are very happy to present the winners and finalists in this special edition of LFI.
