Lily Chance
Lily has been greatly involved in the music department at LEH, and her 7 years spent there have undoubtedly created some of her favourite memories of her time at the school. Lily has come a long way from the muscle suit and black wig she wore in her debut role as Gaston in 3rds, ending her run of musicals playing Lorraine in the dazzling, not to mention award nominated, 42nd Street (a role for which the wig was blonde and, thankfully, no muscle suit was required!). Over the years she has built up her repertoire to include Grade 6 flute, Grade 8 singing (with a Diploma to be taken next month), and most impressively, the ability to dodge Mrs Ashe’s flying pencils. Lily has thoroughly enjoyed participating in Dance Club and all the choirs available to her: from junior choir as a squeaky 3rd, to Holles Singers, Cantata and SATB, all of which proved enormous fun despite the 8:15am rehearsals. Cabaret Night has undeniably been Lily’s favourite musical event as she has been able to demonstrate a wide performative range, from Catherine Parr to Baby Spice, which would not have been brought to life without the fabulous choreography provided by Mrs Tate, the amazing arrangements by Mr Ashe, Miss Chaytow’s terrific guidance and Mrs Ashe’s spectacular conducting. She is endlessly thankful for all the incredible opportunities the music department has given her, particularly the carol concert performed in St Mark’s Basilica on the Venice choir tour: the incredible echoes of Holles singers being a sound she will never forget. Lily is immensely grateful for all the support the music department staff have given her as she has musically progressed, and LEH’s musical community will be the feature of the school she will miss the most. However, keep an eye out for her at the LEH alumnae carol concerts as she will definitely be found returning to the Second Sopranos to belt out the famous ‘Star in the Sky’.
Jaya McElwaine
Jaya’s musical journey at LEH began with school singing lessons (one particularly memorable report in thirds read “Anjali never arrives on time, and often does so without the correct songbook. Somehow, despite this, she still managed to achieve distinction…”). Since then, their involvement in the LEH Music Department has only grown (and organisation hopefully improved!), with both the Holles Singers and Cantata. Some particular highlights include performing at the stunning St. Mark’s Basilica during the Holles Singers' Venice tour, as well as doing Mozart’s Requiem in Choral Society, and being able to take part in Cabaret for two years running!
Looking ahead, Jaya is excited to continue with music at university, hopefully continuing to sing with the London and National Youth Choirs, as well as working more in small chamber groups, and is hugely grateful for all the support and guidance received from the Music Department over the past few years!
Lily Mae Tynan
Lily-Mae has always had a passion for music- whether that be her early performance of ‘Castle On a Cloud’ for the 2018 Junior School Spring concert (which was certainly a sound for the ears) or bellowing loudly above the rest in Junior Choir, in true alto fashion. Despite the disruptions of COVID 19, Lily-Mae reignited her LEH music career in the Sixth Form when she auditioned for the Holles Singers and (shockingly) managed to sight-sing without bursting any eardrums, securing her place. For Lily-Mae, being a part of the choir was truly a unique experience, something she will remember for many years to come, with memories of hitting some questionable harmonies, getting a glare or two from Mrs Ashe, or racing around the music department after forgetting her black concert heels on too many occasions! The famous Cabaret nights of LEH would definitely be a highlight, ignoring last year’s horror of the band playing in entirely clashing keys during the lead up to her solo of ‘One Day I’ll Fly Away’, which was thankfully resolved with the magic of Mr Ashe. This year, Lily-Mae truly had a ‘full circle moment’ when she performed ‘On My Own’, another Les Misérables
arrangement, reminiscing on her life-long love for performing that started as a small, scared 10 year old in the Junior School, now flourishing as an excited, not-so-small 17 year old in her final year at LEH. Although Lily-Mae’s future studies of History of Art at university won’t exactly be bursting with the musical excellence of LEH, she hopes to keep her love for singing alive. Lily-Mae is truly grateful to have been a part of the incredible LEH music department and she is endlessly thankful for the wonderful memories it has granted her.
Lowri Weir
Lowri’s time at the LEH music department has been filled with nothing but enjoyment and happy memories, with a brief appearance of absolute drivel from time to time. Lowri’s debut began with starring as a spoon in the lower school production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’, stealing the show in a classy silver tailcoat. Being involved in Holles singers, Cantata and SATB has truly been an honour, even if it involved some rushed Thursday mornings. It was through the school choirs and dance club that Lowri found her voice and shaped her confidence, involving herself in ‘Legally Blonde’, ‘Little shop of Horrors’, and ‘42nd Street’, with the half-up half-down getting higher and tighter each time. Lowri hopes to study History at the University of Durham, however she will never forget her love of singing and performance, humming along whilst learning about the fall of the Berlin wall. Lowri would like to show her appreciation for everybody in the music department, specifically Mrs Ashe, Miss Chaytow and Mrs Tate, all of whom have shown unwavering faith in her abilities, and represent a genuine enthusiasm in the performing arts. Lowri absolutely cannot wait to come back and visit- read disturb - a Holles Singers rehearsal, and revel in the joy of ‘Star in the Sky’ at the next Carol concert
Megan Downer
Megan’s journey in the LEH music department began in Junior Choir in 3rds, singing a medley of songs from 'Mary Poppins' and performing her first solo at LEH in Alicia Keys’ ‘Girl on Fire’ (arranged by Mr Ashe) at the National Festival of Music for Youth finals at Birmingham Festival Hall. After graduating from Junior Choir, Megan sang as a member of Senior Choir in U4 and L5, before she successfully auditioned for Holles Singers at the start of U5, where she sang the same song she has chosen for tonight - a true full circle moment (although hopefully she has improved since then). While her sight-singing remains questionable at best, Megan is incredibly grateful for the numerous opportunities she has had in the choirs at LEH. Some other memorable moments include the Holles Forever! concert and Cabaret night, where she had the unusual opportunity of performing a solo twice, played one of the fates from 'Hadestown', and, most recently, performed 'Opening: Songs for a New World' with Rowan, Fia, and Emilia.
Megan has also been a very active member of LEH’s dance scene, starting as a dancer for Mr Ashe’s ‘About Time' back in 3rds in the Winter Concert at the Rose Theatre, and, since then, she has regularly performed in the front row of Dance Club - where you will also see her tonight!
Megan’s LEH music career has featured numerous school musicals. From her debut as a wolf in ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to her final performance in ‘42nd Street’, where she channelled her inner Mrs Tate for the role of Andi Lee, the choreographer of ‘Pretty Lady’, these productions have been the highlights of Megan’s time at LEH. She looks forward to joining the musical theatre scene at university next year. Despite a ‘You’ve Been Framed’ style fall during ‘Bushel and a Peck’ in 'Guys and Dolls' and flinging her skipping rope right across the stage during ‘Whipped into Shape’ in 'Legally Blonde', both of which she would kindly ask you to forget, Megan has nothing but fond memories of her time in the music department and wants to thank everyone for their unwavering support and encouragement during her time at LEH.

In the event of a fire
If you’re in the theatre foyer you will hear a loud continuous siren. You should make your way to the nearest exit and then around the building to the Assembly Point in front of the school, adjacent to the tennis courts. Please do not gather immediately in front of entrances and exits. The fire alarms do not sound in the theatre auditorium. If we need to evacuate during the performance, our Front of House Team will direct you to your nearest exit. Please follow their instructions, leaving bags and bulky items behind.
