The Interior Experience
People spend 95% of their time indoors.
Legat’s Interior Design group helps create environments where people perform their best, places that are engaging, productive, healthy and adaptable.
Environments where the story of each client vision is told by the crafted selection of materials, colors, textures and graphics.
Interior Design becomes the perfect balance between function, performance, maintenance, budget and vision.
Planning and design experience ranges from Fortune 500 companies and national retailers to hotels, colleges and universities.
When talking about Interior Design, it is important to emphasize space planning, functionality, color, pattern, rhythm, balance, scale, materials, performance, maintenance, budget, vision, ergonomics, environmental graphics, sustainability, acoustics, lighting, as well as physical and mental well-being.
Environmental Graphics are a celebration of vision, spirit and space; an intentional application of art; a wonderful way to express the soul of a building; a tool that engages and creates a bond between the students and the programs within; an expression of the client/owner.
OVERSIZED TEXT AND GRAPHICS.
They create a statement; great for wayfinding applications and visual identity. Simple, thoughtful, and inspiring. In this particular case, the graphic was design to have a layering effect-- a corridor experience as well as a conference room background.
EXPRESS BRAND IDENTITY AND BELONG.
Our client wanted to be recognized by its surrounding community. It was important to showcase a familiar territory; a common ground. The pride of belonging to a whole gave a deeper dimension to this mural—it was not just a graphic, it became the talk to the town!
RECOGNITION, HISTORY AND GRATITUDE.
This college wanted every student who came into their new Student Center to experience these emotions. The tribute honors an influential past college president who believed in the each student’s potential. The graphic is located in the heart of the building so it can resonate in each student’s heart.
EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATIONAL DESIGN.
Experiential design embraces many design disciplines including graphics, architecture, interiors, art, and landscape design. All work together with the visual opportunities of wayfinding, defining identity, communicating information, and creating experiences that connect students to place. A successful project is when all these disciplines work together to materialize a function, an intent—to convey a message.

DAVID K. HILL FAMILY LIBRARY
HARPER COLLEGE
LEED-NC SILVER REGISTERED
This award-winning project includes the complete renovation of a three-story library designed for the internet age. The upgrades save energy and maintenance costs, improve functioning, and create a more inviting library with a wider array of services.
The complete gut and renovation relocates the library from the first and second floors to the second (active) and third (quiet) floors. The first floor showcases tutoring, writing, and student success services, all of which were previously tucked away and hard to access on the third floor. The Academy, geared toward faculty enrichment, moves from the first floor to the southeast corner of the third floor, encouraging faculty to observe and interact with students.
The renovated library responds to the paradigm shift from “content consumption” to “content creation” and has become the most popular destination on campus.
