“That’s whereRecovery Lab comes into it for us…we might have this playersflagging for workload, this player for neuromuscular fatigue and also flagging subjectively with some specificareas for muscle soreness. So then that’s a player weneed to now focus our attention on in this training week, inorder to give them the best outcome and opportunity to perform.”

Biomarkers

INTERNAL LOAD / ATHLETE AVAILABILITY / INJURY RISK MANAGEMENT

Orreco’s biomarkers module delivers a comprehensive solution to monitor, analyse and manage your athletes’ training and recovery status, objectively accessing the balance between load and recovery.

There are many options to track quantitative measures of external load (GPS, optical tracking, wearables), but qualitative measures of the athlete’s internal response to load are essential for completing the full picture for each athlete (where responses vary significantly). Orreco’s industry leading data science algorithms create adaptive ranges which are individualised to each athlete.

Orreco eliminates the guess work and gives you specific, actionable intervention strategies to keep your athletes healthy.

Evidence Based. Actionable Insights.

Peer-reviewed evidence base

Our team of sports scientists have undertaken extensive research to develop and validate this practice in the field and have published their findings extensively. This peer-reviewed research has been proven in multiple sports to be effective in reducing injury and illness risk and optimise recovery.

Individualised Ranges

We have built on this knowledge base in applied sports science research and developed a world-first software solution. Industry leading algorithms are powered by adaptive ranges which are individualised to each athlete. This automatically identify priorities amongst your athletes and offer strategies for athlete intervention.

Actionable Insights

Biomarker analysis provides RAG scores (Red, Amber, Green) to give clear indications on the status of individual biomarkers and overall status. Automatic feedback is provided on nutrition and potential outcomes. You can also flag and set reviews for follow up with your team and send protocols directly to the athlete.

NON-INVASIVE BLOOD MONITORING

Point of Care Biomarkers

Point-of-care biomarkers are a set of non-invasive, rapid result blood tests.. They provide an accurate ‘snapshot’ of the athlete’s internal load and inflammation status which is actionable that day. The tests are minimally invasive as they require only a pin-prick of blood which can be drawn in under 1 minute .

Regular testing provides individualised early indications of increased risk of injury and helps protect against overreaching and under-recovery. It also provides evidence-based insights for your team to intervene directly and effectively through nutritional support, sleep optimization, cold/hot water therapies, compression, and other recovery strategies.

Free Oxygen Radical Test (FORT) is largely a reflection of the balance between training/ competing stress and overall recovery.

Free Oxygen Radical Defence (FORD) is an indirect measurement of antioxidant capacity. It measures the combined capacity of water soluble antioxidants, which defend the body against damage caused by reactive oxygen species (known as free radicals).

Together, FORT and FORD provide an index of Oxidative stress. Oxidative stress plays an important role in adaptation to exercise.

HsCRP as a clinical marker increases in response to inflammation, infection or tissue damage. HsCRP can acutely rise in response to exercise and is effective at montoring post-game recovery.

INTRAVENOUS BLOOD PROFILING

Full Panel Biomarkers

EXAMPLE BIOMARKER CLUSTERS INCLUDE:

Full panel reviews offer a comprehensive overview of over 50 biomarkers. These intravenous tests are ideal for gathering larger amounts of biomarker data to understand the longer term drivers behind an athlete’s physiological status. Comprehensive panels are organised in to several ‘clusters’ each related to key aspects of athlete health & performance; e.g. (Nutrition & Hydration, Fatty Acid Profile, Oxygen Transport, Bone Health, Hormonal Drive & more). These tests are typically drawn at several key points across the season (pre-season, mid-season etc) and offer objective data for individualised interventions. Tissue Damage & Inflammation

Key Features

Squad Dashboards

Visualise biomarker data across your whole squad to quickly monitor how your team is managing load and identify priorities for intervention.

Interactive Graphs

Interactive data visualisations offer quick at a glance insights and access to all historical data. These can be configured and updated to compare all historical data.

Athlete Profiles

Athlete profiles offer you a place for deeper individual analysis of both point-of-care biomarkers and full panel blood data. This can be viewed in context alongside athlete questionnaires and game schedule.

Individualised Adaptive Ranges

Our industry leading data science algorithms offer custom ranges for precise analysis. These adaptive ranges update over time to identify an athlete’s individualised baseline and optimal thresholds.

Case Creation Comments & Reviews

Users can create biomarker cases, schedule laboratory tests, customise athlete questionnaires and more from within the admin section. All historical cases are safe and secure on our platform.

Leave comments and direct messages to members of your support staff to facilitate athlete support. Follow up messages and interventions can be sent directly to the athlete via the @thlete app.

Case Studies Premier League

The anonymised figures on the right are drawn from the profiles of athletes competing in the Premier League.

With frequent data collection throughout the season these graphs show features common to athletes who have suffered illness and injury through chronic overloading or inadequate recovery.

The longitudinal profiles illustrate how point of care biomarkers can offer early indications of overload, illness and injury risk when an athlete moves out of their Individualised reference range, and how performance demands can impact players at points throughout the season, which require individualised interventions that can be effectively monitored in order to return to play.

PROFILE A

Thigh Muscle Injury; Chronic Injury

Period of overload and under-recovery leading to increased Pro-oxidant production (‘stress’) and overall oxidative stress resulting in soft tissue thigh muscle injury, indicated by the acute inflammatory response.

PROFILE B

Chronic overload into mid-season leading to underperformance

Mid-season performance and schedule demands resulting in atypical increasing measures of ‘stress’ markers. An acute spike in inflammation in response to thigh muscle strain, followed by period subsequent underperformance.

PROFILE C

Illness Prone and Frequent URTI

Young athlete experiencing frequent symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection highlighted by regular acute spikes of inflammation and greater variability of pro-oxidant measures, warranting education around nutrition and recovery practices.

DAILY WELLNESS LOGGING

Self-reported player data is an important consideration in identifying meaningful changes in an athlete’s physiological state. Regular feedback can be logged through our @thlete app covering such topics as Muscle Soreness, Stress, Fatigue, Sleep Quality and more. These questionnaires can also be customised to fit the needs of your squad and organisation.

Medical Notes

Athlete Dashboards Create Cases

View, sort and filter your squad to see current status and priorities in an athlete list and injury case view.

Classify Injury & Illnesses

Users can select from a range of standardised classification (e.g. BAMIC, Prakash, Pedret) or medical (HEAP, SOAP) to organise follow ups and arrange rehab and return to play protocols.

Quickly create cases for either an illness or an injury.

Select from multiple options to record important context for the case e.g. whether it occured in matchplay or training, contact or non-contact, mechanism, other clinical information etc.

Multimedia Upload

Users can easily add new medical notes to the case like medical (HEAP) or physio (SOAP) to track progress over time. Easily drag and drop attachments, (e.g. images, video) or add voice notes while on the go.

Manage Athlete Status Review Contextual Data

Easily update the athlete’s overall status from ‘Not training / Rehab / Monitor / Full Training’ and their key scheduled dates from several pages within the module.

From within an athletes dashboard users can view recent data from other modules within the te@m platform e.g. biomarker results, recovery battery tests, sleep, wellness and more.
