Welcome from the Director of Sport

As we reach the crux of what has been a wonderfully full half-term, Seaford Sport has taken on that unmistakable hum of momentum. The fixture list is thriving, training groups continue to expand and the calendar appears to have developed a life of its own. It is busy, certainly, but busy with purpose, energy and no small amount of ambition.

Over the weekend, I read an interview with Jürgen Klopp as he evolves into his new strategic role with Red Bull. What struck me was his focus on shaping culture rather than chasing immediate wins. He spoke about optimism as something practical and being rooted in action, clarity and daily standards. It is not about grand speeches; it is about creating an environment where people can flourish. That sentiment resonated strongly with me and feels particularly relevant during our Spring Term as a department

Our sports programme is in full flow. Across the Prep School, students have already represented the College in a wide range of IAPS competitions this term, embracing both the privilege and responsibility of wearing Seaford colours. Participation remains high and it has been especially pleasing to see the maturity, conduct and commitment shown towards training and fixtures alike. There is a growing confidence in our children with a willingness to step forward, compete and support one another.

Cross-country continues to be a standout success story. Training numbers have increased markedly, and there is a genuine appetite to test oneself against the course (and occasionally the Sussex mud). It is a sport that demands resilience and self-discipline, yet it welcomes all abilities. Students are learning that success is not confined to the finishing funnel; it lies equally in personal improvement, pacing wisely and finding that extra gear on the final stretch. With brighter days and firmer ground on the horizon, one can only hope the running shoes remain in regular use both in school and, dare I suggest, at weekends with their adults too.

Amid the weekly rhythm of fixtures, a great deal of planning is taking place behind the scenes as we look ahead to next year and beyond. Department structures, development pathways and opportunities for breadth and depth in sport are being explored to ensure Seaford Sport continues to grow. Optimism here is essential. It drives improvement, sustains ambition and allows us to build confidently for the future while fully embracing the present.

This Saturday’s Open Day provides a valuable opportunity to share that direction with prospective families. In my short time at Seaford, many visitors have arrived having first spoken with current parents and students. That speaks volumes about the pride you take in the school and the strength of our partnership. You remain our most authentic and persuasive advocates, something no marketing campaign could ever replicate.

Thank you, as always, for your support on the touchline and beyond. The term is demanding, yet equally exciting and full of promise. Seaford Sport is well positioned not only for the remainder of this year, but for the seasons ahead.

As I write this, the sun is streaming through the window, which can only mean one thing: our summer sport is nearly upon us. I suspect the grounds staff are quietly delighted!

Additional Medical Support

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site

We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct

For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.

One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is: ‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.

We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
