Welcome from the Director of Sport

As we head into the weekend, it feels fitting to frame our programme around the unique energy that only tournament sport seems to generate. There is a different rhythm to weekends like this: a little more noise, a few more conversations on the touchlines and just that extra sense that something meaningful is unfolding in front of us. Hosting events, welcoming visitors and watching our own students step forward into new opportunities remains one of the great privileges of school sport.

Before the boots hit the turf in earnest, the weekend begins on Friday evening with the Sports Dinner. A chance to enjoy and celebrate the effort, commitment and collective experiences that sit behind Seaford Sport. These occasions are important. They give us space to recognise our progress, acknowledge contribution and enjoy the stories from our speakers that make up life in sport, usually accompanied by good company and, shall we say, some ‘light refreshments’

This weekend, that spotlight very firmly falls on the Southern Seaford Rugby 10s, which we are delighted to be hosting once again. The event has become a real fixture in the calendar and consistently delivers high-quality rugby, competitive intensity and no shortage of moments that draw a crowd a little closer to the touchline ropes. Hosting brings its own responsibilities, but it also brings pride – pride in our facilities, our staff, our students and the wider Seaford community who give these events their character. A huge thank you in advance to everyone contributing behind the scenes to ensure the Sports Dinner and Seaford 10s runs smoothly.

Tournament sport, with all its drama and momentum swings, has been hard to ignore recently at the top level too. The recent Africa Cup of Nations provided a timely reminder of just how powerful knockout competition can be. Passion, unpredictability, moments of brilliance and, occasionally, moments that spark debate long after the final whistle. The easy link here is clear: tournaments amplify everything. That is precisely why they are such powerful learning environments for young people, offering lessons in resilience, composure, teamwork and perspective alongside performance. Furthermore, no players will be leaving the pitch before the final whistle, and all pitch-side towels will be permitted!

Closer to home, it has been particularly pleasing to see the continued growth of our participation pathways. Last weekend saw Seaford field our first Netball 4th VII, a significant and positive milestone for the programme. Even better, we will be doing so again this weekend with four teams selected across other age groups. Creating opportunities for more students to represent the College, to compete with their peers and to enjoy the shared experience of match day remains central to our philosophy. These moments matter, and they speak volumes about the depth and health of our sport.

A special and very well-deserved mention must also go to our Girls’ Hockey 1st XI, who have progressed to the semi-final of the ISHC National Plate earlier this week. This is an immense achievement and a reflection of sustained commitment and belief. As they move towards the business end of the competition, the focus sharpens, but so too does the opportunity.

As always, whether you are celebrating together at the Sports Dinner, supporting from the sidelines, travelling with teams, officiating, hosting or simply enjoying the buzz around campus, thank you for the role you play in making Seaford Sport what it is. The programme thrives because of its people, and weekends like this are a reminder of just how strong that community is.

I look forward to seeing many of you over the course of the weekend with your voices ready, conversations flowing and fully embracing everything sport at Seaford has to offer.

Yours in sport,

Medical Provision

This weekend, we will be supported by the Seaford College Physio Team and Sport Staff.

Additional Medical Support

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

I have attached a letter from the College outlining how to use this free service. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site

We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct

For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.

One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.

We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme. Blue Blood – Seaford
