Welcome from the Director of Sport

What a superb way to build momentum across Seaford Sport, with last week concluding in memorable fashion through the Seaford Southern 10s success. It was wonderful to see so many supporters present, creating an atmosphere that truly reflected what Seaford Sport is about. Several special memories were made for players, families and staff alike, and it was particularly meaningful to note that several boys involved in the event have been part of our community since Year 3. Moments such as these reinforce the value of long-term development and provide a powerful reminder of what sustained commitment can achieve.

That sense of progression has been evident in the Senior School programme too, highlighted by the dramatic success of our U14 rugby team, whose last-minute kick secured a place in the National Cup quarter final. Experiences like this capture everything that is special about school sport: resilience under pressure, belief and shared achievement. There has also been significant encouragement within boys’ hockey. The 1st XI narrowly missed out against a high-quality Tier 1 school side before earning their place in the National Plate, a clear indication of the progress being made within the programme. Just as importantly, this success is underpinned by a growing group of keen, enthusiastic younger players who are embracing the sport and raising standards across the age groups. Their energy, commitment and appetite to improve bode extremely well for the future and reflect the strengthening depth and culture within boys’ hockey at Seaford.

To see participation numbers continuing to rise alongside positive outcomes in national cup competitions is particularly pleasing and a testament to the commitment of both pupils and staff. That journey remains central to our approach. We are proud of the breadth of opportunity available within the Senior School, supporting pupils at very different stages of their sporting journeys. Whether competing at a national level or developing confidence and enjoyment through regular participation, our aim is to help every student find challenge, fulfilment and a lifelong connection to physical activity.

Looking ahead, it promises to be another busy and exciting weekend of sport. Netball fixtures will take place across two days, beginning with Friday night matches for our senior teams and continuing Saturday with some of our older Prep girls playing their first weekend fixtures. This offers them a valuable taste of the weekend sport experience and an important stepping- stone as they prepare to transition into Senior School life in the coming years.

Alongside competitive success, we continue to build a balanced programme that promotes active wellbeing beyond traditional team sports. This philosophy aligns well with the aims of our 13+ Sports Scholarship Assessment Day, where we look not only for sporting potential but also for enthusiasm, adaptability and a genuine love of being active as a multisport student-athlete.

We are fortunate to work with young people who are keen to be involved in sport, while recognising that development occurs at different rates physically, emotionally and technically. As we review the Sports Scholarship provision, we are guided by contemporary research and the expertise of our Sports and PE staff, and we remain committed to pathways that prioritise broad skill development, resilience and long-term engagement rather than short-term outcomes.

Rather than emulating others, we aim to evolve thoughtfully, ensuring our provision reflects both our values and the changing landscape of youth sport. Ultimately, our goal is to enable every child to enjoy sport, grow in confidence and reach their potential at the right time for them.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Medical Provision

This week, we will be supported by the Seaford College Physio Team, Sport Staff and our Medical Centre.

Additional Medical Support

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site

We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct

For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.

One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the

experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.

We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
