Saturday, 21st March, 2026

Welcome from the Director of Sport

As we head into another full weekend of fixtures, it feels like a good moment to celebrate what has been a hugely positive week for Seaford Sport.

Our U16 Netball team secured a 3rd place finish at the National Plate Finals. This is a first for the school and a thoroughly deserved reward for a group that has shown real resilience, togetherness and no shortage of character throughout the season. It is a significant milestone for the programme and, quite rightly, one the girls (and coaches) are very proud of.

There have also been excellent performances across our Rugby 7s age groups, with several teams reaching finals in the last week. There is a growing sense that things are beginning to click at just the right time, which is exactly what you hope for as we build towards the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens. It is an exciting prospect and one that will no doubt come with equal parts anticipation and excitement.

Our 1st XI Boys’ Hockey team have also given us plenty to celebrate, having progressed to the National Plate Final next week. This is a superb achievement and reflects a season of consistent effort and commitment. We are very much looking forward to supporting them.

Meanwhile, preparations for the Summer Term are quietly gathering pace behind the scenes. Pre-season sessions have been finalised, and with the recent stretch of drier weather, pitch preparation has begun in earnest. Grounds staff are smiling again, which is always a good sign, with a real sense of anticipation as cricket, athletics and tennis begin to edge into view.

This time of year does, however, bring with it a particular challenge. With fixtures, finals, academic demands, revision sessions and a wide range of co-curricular commitments all competing for attention, school life can feel a little like organised chaos. It is at this point that communication becomes absolutely critical and, if we are honest, also where it can most easily become muddled.

Upon reading the work of Cody Royle, his thinking around team communication has struck a chord. The idea that the best teams are not those who say the most, but those who say what matters, clearly and at the right time, has been particularly relevant.

It has led me to analyse how we communicate within Seaford Sport, especially during these busier weeks. Our aim is to keep things simple: clear messages, consistent expectations and no unnecessary noise. Easier said than done at times, but when it works, it makes a real difference. Students know where they need to be and what they need to do, and they can focus their energy on performing, rather than decoding instructions.

We have been refining how our departmental meetings are structured to ensure we are aligned as a staff, and that clarity is then passed on to you all in a way that is helpful rather than overwhelming. At a time when many of our teams are heading into finals and students are juggling increasing academic commitments, that shared understanding becomes invaluable.

There will also be a separate communication regarding some exciting developments with Blueblood, our kit supplier News which, I suspect, will be of particular interest to those who take kit very seriously (which, in my experience, is most of them).

Additional Medical Support

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site

We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct

For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.

One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.

We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
