Welcome from the Director of Sport
This week’s Senior School sporting programme has definitely felt like the Summer Term in full flow… athletics lanes busy throughout the day, tennis courts constantly occupied, cricket squares getting plenty of use and students somehow returning home carrying enough kit to suggest they may actually be moving out permanently rather than attending school for the day.

One of the most pleasing parts of the term so far has been the variety of opportunities currently on offer across the Senior School. Alongside our core summer sports, there are lots of positive conversations taking place around how we continue to evolve the sporting experience at Seaford heading into next year. The Summer Term always provides a brilliant opportunity to experiment a little and build momentum for what comes next, and there is genuine excitement about the direction of travel.
That thinking links closely to an insightful recent article from BBC Sport discussing the changing landscape of youth sport and the importance of developing adaptable, resilient young athletes through varied sporting experiences, rather than rushing too early into specialisation. At Seaford, we strongly believe in producing well-rounded young people who develop confidence, athleticism, teamwork and enjoyment through exposure to a broad range of opportunities and challenges. Naturally, we love competing and representing the College proudly, but the bigger picture will always matter too.
At this stage of the term, I would also like to reinforce the importance of participation and representing the College positively when selected. Previous correspondence has outlined our expectations around commitment, communication and availability, and your support in helping ensure students continue to meet these standards is genuinely appreciated. School sport brings responsibility, but it also creates some of the best experiences and memories students take from their time at school.
We were also delighted this week to host the second instalment of our Seaford Sport Webinar Series with Martin Brockman, titled How to Train Like a Champion. Martin spoke brilliantly about what high performance actually looks like – not glamorous shortcuts or viral moments, but consistency, preparation, recovery, mindset and daily habits. It strongly reinforced many of the values we are trying to embed within Seaford Sport and was a really valuable message for our students.
Another exciting development is that we are now very close to officially launching our Senior Sports Tours for rugby and netball for July 2027. This marks an exciting chapter as Seaford Sport begins to embark on annual touring opportunities for Senior and Sixth Form students. Tours offer so much more than fixtures alone by developing independence, resilience, relationships and perspective, while creating memories that last long beyond school. Ultimately, they are another important step in our aim of helping young people become not only better sportspeople, but better people too. More details will be shared very soon.
Finally, it would be impossible not to mention how proud we all remain following the recent ISI report, where the College’s Sport and PE provision was recognised as a significant strength. This reflects years of hard work from staff, students, parents, coaches and support teams alike. Sport and physical activity remain such an important part of the culture and environment here at Seaford, and it was fantastic to see that recognised so strongly within the report.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support throughout a busy and enjoyable Summer Term. The lifts to fixtures, sideline encouragement, washing piles and occasional emergency hunt for missing cricket whites are all very much appreciated.
Have a wonderful weekend, and hopefully the sunshine decides to make a more permanent appearance soon!

Medical Provision
This week, we will be supported by the Seaford College Sport Staff and our Medical Centre.
Additional Medical Support
To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.
If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations
As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.
Dogs on the School Site
We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.
Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct
For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.
One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:
‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’
Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.
We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
