Seaford College SPORT Saturday, 10th January, 2026

Welcome from the Director of Sport As we welcome the New Year, we are delighted to see the Senior School sport programme begin with real momentum. It was extremely encouraging to see such strong numbers at last Saturday’s pre-season sessions; the effort, energy and enthusiam on display set a positive tone for the term ahead. The Spring Term is already moving at pace, with a busy block of fixtures approaching, beginning with our Friday Night Lights 1st XI Boys’ Hockey match, which we hope will be strongly supported by the Seaford Community. This is followed on Saturday by Netball fixtures and Rugby 7s and 10s training sessions, ensuring a varied and exciting start to the term. Recent weather has presented some seasonal challenges, but the Seaford Community has responded with characteristic resilience and adaptability. Staff and students have worked together to ensure that as much meaningful physical activity as possible remains available, reinforcing our collective commitment to participation, development and enjoyment in sport. As we move into 2026, we are also reviewing how we use SOCS, our online school sport platform. Over the coming weeks, further information will be shared to help families access key sporting information more efficiently and consistently, supporting clearer communication around fixtures, activities, timings and expectations. A key area of internal focus for the Sports Department this term is the role sport plays in shaping our environment, behaviours and values. Drawing on recent thinking around sport as social architecture, we are increasingly aware that sport quietly teaches students how to belong, how to contribute and how to behave long before it teaches them how to win. A summary article by Jonny McMurty highlights that it is the design of the sporting environment – via routines, expectations, language, roles and shared experiences — that has the greatest long-term impact on young people, not simply results or technical outcomes. At Seaford College, this aligns closely with our sporting values, such as respect, teamwork, commitment, integrity and enjoyment. This term, staff will be more intentional in helping students reflect on how these values are lived out day to day. This topic reminds us that students take cues from what is rewarded, what is repeated and what is modelled. By creating space for reflection in our sporting experiences, we aim to help students recognise that their actions shape the culture around them. This approach supports the development of self-awareness, resilience and empathy and helps students understand that they are not just participants in sport, but contributors. Over the course of this term, our goal is to ensure that Seaford Sport consistently sends clear messages about who we are and what we stand for. When students feel valued, connected and clear about expectations, sport becomes a powerful vehicle for personal growth, leadership and confidence – the type of lessons that extend well beyond the arena and into wider school life. We look forward to the term ahead and to working in partnership with you as we continue to develop a positive, purposeful and values-led sporting environment for your children at Seaford Sport.

Medical Provision This weekend, we will be supported by the Seaford College Physio Team, Sport Staff and our Medical Centre.

Additional Medical Support To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far. I have attached a letter from the College outlining how to use this free service. If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process. One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College. We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
