Welcome from the Director of Sport

As we reach the crux of what has been a wonderfully full half-term, Seaford Sport has taken on that unmistakable hum of momentum. The fixture list is thriving, training groups continue to expand and the calendar appears to have developed a life of its own. It is busy, certainly, but busy with purpose, energy and no small amount of ambition.

Over the weekend, I read an interview with Jürgen Klopp as he evolves into his new strategic role with Red Bull. What struck me was his focus on shaping culture rather than chasing immediate wins. He spoke about optimism as something practical and being rooted in action, clarity and daily standards. It is not about grand speeches; it is about creating an environment where people can flourish. That sentiment resonated strongly with me and feels particularly relevant during our Spring Term as a department.

This week we are delighted to host our Seaford Southern 7s Netball Festival, welcoming some of the strongest teams from across the region for what promises to be a fast-paced and highly competitive day. This event always brings intensity, skill and momentum; matches come thick and fast, decisions must be sharp and teamwork is everything. It is an exciting spectacle and a wonderful opportunity for our girls to test themselves against high-quality opposition on home courts (well, nearly home!)

Events of this nature do not simply happen. They reflect the ambition we hold for Senior School sport and our desire to provide meaningful competition, to build confidence under pressure and to create occasions that student will remember long after the fourth quarter finishes. Hosting also brings responsibility. Our players understand that they represent not only their team, but the wider College community, and I have no doubt they will do so in style.

The day itself will be busy, with a full sports programme running alongside Open Day. There will be a real sense of occasion across the site and at the Dome. Spectators are warmly welcomed and actively encouraged; the support from the sidelines makes a tangible difference, particularly in a festival format. If you can join us, your support would be greatly appreciated, and I can assure you the standard of netball on display will be well worth watching.

Amid the weekly rhythm of fixtures, a great deal of planning is taking place behind the scenes as we look ahead to next year and beyond. Department structures, development pathways and opportunities for breadth and depth in sport are being explored to ensure Seaford Sport continues to grow. Optimism here is essential. It drives improvement, sustains ambition and allows us to build confidently for the future while fully embracing the present.

This Saturday’s Open Day provides a valuable opportunity to share that direction with prospective families. In my short time at Seaford, many visitors have arrived having first spoken with current parents and students. That speaks volumes about the pride you take in the school and the strength of our partnership. You remain our most authentic and persuasive advocates, something no marketing campaign could ever replicate.

Thank you, as always, for your support on the touchline and beyond. The term is demanding, yet equally exciting and full of promise. Seaford Sport is well positioned not only for the remainder of this year, but for the seasons ahead.

As I write this, the sun is streaming through the window, which can only mean one thing: our summer sport is nearly upon us. I suspect the grounds staff are quietly delighted!

Additional Medical Support

To continue to ensure that we are providing proactive, gold-standard care to our students, the school is in partnership with Return2Play, the UK’s leading sports medicine partners for schools. Feedback from other schools and parents utilising their expertise is strong, while our own experience has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

If you have any queries regarding your account, then please get in touch with Return2Play directly via hello@return2play.org.uk and they will be happy to help. The helpdesk runs 7 days a week.

Wet Weather and Cancellations

As a team, we will always do everything within our control to ensure fixtures and recreational activities go ahead as scheduled. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated via the respective sports coaches and clarion call.

Dogs on the School Site

We are a dog-friendly site; however, can I remind all parents that dogs should always be on a lead while onsite, and should not be on the field of play. If challenged by a member of staff, please be polite, respect the campus rules and remember that the safety of our students is paramount.

Parents and Supporters – Code of Conduct

For our core values (RESPECT, TEAMWORK, COURAGE, TRUST) to be upheld and our sports programme to be truly successful, it takes the cooperation of all involved – players, coaches, officials, staff, spectators and parents. The College and the staff have spent some time and effort reinforcing these sporting values within Seaford, and we believe it is essential that we include parents and friends of the College in this process.

One of the key questions we ask all supporters to consider is:

‘How does our touchline behaviour shape character and enhance the enjoyment for all the players during the game?’

Please let the coaches coach so that you can enjoy the parental match day experience. As a team and a college, we value performance and desired learning behaviours over the scoreboard – win, lose or draw, it is about the experience and the students making memories with their friends. Thank you for your support with this! Successful College sport is built upon strong partnerships between the students, parents and the College.

We look forward to seeing you all on the sidelines, both home and away, and thank you for your continued support of the Seaford Sport programme.
