Welcome to the first edition of LDA Life, our residents’ newsletter.

The Land Development Agency was established to accelerate the delivery of affordable housing, and we are delighted that you are a resident in one of the LDA’s first Cost Rental schemes.

Currently, the LDA has a delivery pipeline in excess of 25,000 homes across the country. As these communities come to life, this newsletter aims to keep people connected by sharing community updates, upcoming events, and news from across the LDA’s Cost Rental schemes.

As LDA neighbourhoods continue to grow, we look forward to building stronger connections and making each scheme a great place to live.

What is Cost Rental?

Cost Rental is a new housing tenure, offering residents a long-term secure rental option, with rents discounted to market value by at least 25%.

The rent for Cost Rental homes is based on the cost of the building, and ongoing management and maintenance.

Welcome to the first edition of LDA Life. I’d like to take this opportunity to warmly welcome all residents to your new homes and communities.

As more residents move into newly established neighbourhoods, this newsletter has been created to help connect communities across different LDA housing schemes – sharing news, updates, resident information, local events and stories that bring people together.

While each location is unique and has a dedicated on the ground property manager, we hope this newsletter helps to foster a shared sense of community among residents across all our Cost Rental homes.

We look forward to enabling these new communities to grow and thrive in a sustainable way and to staying connected with you along the way.

What’s Been Going On…

Tenant Satisfaction Survey

A big thank you to those who took part in the tenant satisfaction survey earlier this year. Your feedback is incredibly valuable in helping to shape improvements across our communities and guide future decisions.

More than 300 households participated in the survey, showing fantastic engagement from the residents. As part of the survey prize draw, one lucky household in Harpur Lane received a €100 voucher – Congratulations to the winner!

Activating Community Spaces

The LDA is focused on activating and enhancing our commercial, retail, childcare and community spaces across all developments, to help create vibrant and well-connected neighbourhoods that support our residents’ day-to-day needs.

Coming soon…

Shanganagh Castle Estate: We are delighted to announce that locally based café “Inhale” will be opening in the coming months, an exciting addition to the development and a first for this important community. We are also in discussions with community, social enterprise and retail service providers for the remaining spaces.

Cookstown Gateway: Tesco Express has been successfully trading in this development since October 2024, and we are currently seeking potential commercial and childcare operators for the remaining ground-floor spaces.

Cooper Square, Seven Mills: We are in the process of finalising details with an exciting range of services for this development, such as convenience, retail and childcare facilities.

Sustainable Living

Reloop Partnership — Supporting Circularity!

The LDA has partnered with Reloop, an organisation dedicated to empowering communities to reduce, reuse, and adopt more circular living practices.

Reloop provides:

• Free clothing collection for charity

• Lending library for household goods

• Unused tech and household electrical collection service

The response to Reloop’s services has been great so far. The services have been described as “Easy and quick!” and 305 bags of clothing have been collected and donated to charities, such as St. Vincent De Paul. 36 electrical items have also been recycled through this service.

Reloop is currently available in Shanganagh Castle Estate, Shankill, Co Dublin; Barnwell Point, Hansfield, Dublin 15; and Parkside, Belmayne, Dublin 13. Keep an eye out for the roll-out of the initiative in your community over the coming months.

FOOD WASTE

Each year, Irish households generate approximately 1.9 million tonnes of waste, equating to roughly 1 tonne (or 200 black bags) per household. This includes paper, packaging, plastics, metals and food waste. At present, only 41–42% of household waste is recycled, below national and EU recycling targets. (Source: CSO)

Recent events

In May, to mark National Bike Week, bike clinics were hosted in Parkside and Shanganagh Castle Estate in partnership with Cycle Clinic and Occu.

The mobile bike clinic provided residents with basic bike repairs and safety checks for those who pre-booked their bikes for servicing. The initiative encourages safe cycling, sustainable travel, and helps residents get their bikes roadready for the summer months.

Upcoming Initiatives

Are you a bookworm? If so, you’ll love this! Bookswap library boxes are being installed across our sites that have internal courtyards.

Here’s how it works: If you have a book that you’re ready to let go of, just pop it into the box. As more residents get involved, a growing selection of books will become available to everyone to enjoy. It’s a simple and sustainable way to share stories whilst connecting with your neighbours, who know you may have a similar taste in books!

Supporting Biodiversity

Buzzing Balconies

As we move into summer, you might be spending more time on your balcony enjoying the warmer, longer days. This year, why not give nature a hand by creating a buzzing balcony?

Balconies can provide important pitstops for pollinators living in built-up areas. By growing the right plants in pots and containers, you can help nature whilst surrounding yourself with beautiful, sweet-smelling flowers.

Rosemary, Oregano, Sage, Thyme, Chives and Lemonbalm can all grow in pots. The flowers of these herbs are excellent sources of nectar and

pollen, and their leaves can be used to flavour many dishes. Lavender is another fragrant herb that pollinators love. These plants are all perennials and will come again each year without the need to buy more seeds.
