Presidents Report The season is upon us again ever so rapidly and we appreciate for many clubs and volunteers involved in the winter footy and netball comp this is a quick turnaround to get back into women's footy mode and appreciate everyone’s time and efforts. It's an exciting season with 5 new teams joining the league across the 3 grades, we welcome Penola and Kongorong U13's, Mundulla and Casterton U16's and East Gambier in the senior women’s. Well done to all these clubs for supporting women's footy and giving more girls the opportunity to play across the Southeast and Western Vic region. This year we see the start of a proper competition for the U13's with the addition of scoring and a finals round of some description, we hope the girls enjoy this opportunity. Congratulations to the girls who have gone onto play SANFL this year in Adelaide the league is proud of your efforts; Heidi Berkin, Jeddah Huf, Alice Tentye (also Adelaide Crows selection), Tori Evans (u18's). Along with the girls who went to Brisbane to play footy enjoying the new experience and up there in Ellise Berkin, Jarrah Altschwager and Evie Sealy. Lastly, it was great to see Tess Andrews, Erin Horsnell and Hinemoa Biddle Maitland play in the country vs city rep match a few weeks ago in Adelaide and come home with a win, we are very proud of your efforts and much deserved accomplishments to the three of you. South East Zone Report It was an absolute privilege to once again be involved with the South East Women’s side at the 2026 SA Country Championships in the Barossa Valley. Unfortunately, the results didn’t quite go our way. We started the weekend against a very strong Southern Districts side, who got the better of us by 51 points. It was obviously a disappointing way to start the weekend, but what I loved most was the way the girls responded. Backing up the next morning against Eastern, who eventually went on to win the Championships, was always going to be a big ask. But the girls came out with a completely different mindset, backed each other in and really took it up to them. We eventually went down by 14 points, but it was one of those games where you walk away disappointed with the result but incredibly proud of the effort. The improvement in less than 24 hours was huge, and the girls showed plenty of fight, determination and pride in the South East jumper. Our captain, Erin Horsnell, was fantastic across the weekend and was deservedly awarded the Scott and Karen Duncan South East Best Player of the Carnival. One of my favourite parts of representative football is watching girls who normally play against each other come together, get to know each other and suddenly become teammates. You only get a short amount of time together, but by the end of the weekend there are new friendships, plenty of laughs and some pretty great memories – along with a few stories that are probably best left out of the official report! It was also pretty special to later see Erin Horsnell, Tess Andrews and Hinemoa BiddleMaitland selected to represent SA Country in the inaugural Women’s City v Country Cup. Having three South East girls earn that opportunity was a fantastic achievement and something our whole competition should be incredibly proud of. A massive thank you to Chris and everyone who worked behind the scenes to get us there, and especially to the girls who put their hands up to represent our region. We might not have come home with the results we wanted, but there was still so much to take away from the weekend. A very special thank you also needs to go to Karen and Scott Duncan. It’s difficult to put into words just how much these two have done for women’s football in the Limestone Coast. They have been driving forces behind the women’s game in our region for years, putting in an incredible amount of time, energy and hard work to make sure women and girls have opportunities to play, develop and represent our region. A lot of what we now get to enjoy – and probably sometimes take for granted – simply wouldn’t be where it is today without Karen and Scott constantly pushing women’s football forward. They certainly don’t do it for the recognition, but they absolutely deserve it. On a personal level, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities and support they have given me as well. To be able to be involved in representative football, work alongside some fantastic people and help coach some bloody talented women is something I certainly don’t take for granted. I loved being part of it again, had plenty of laughs along the way, probably talked a little too much, and couldn’t have been prouder of the way our girls represented the South East.
