Dear Readers, Firstly welcome to our newcomers to the Le'covid magazine - Family Ehrentreu. Yehudah Boruch definitely seems to have a mischievous streak and thanks for you Eretz Yisroel pics! Keep them coming, please. Coronavirus seems to be giving us lots of inspiration for making the best of every situation. Lag ba'omer was absolutely not forgotten (see pictures) and we've been enlightened about how many ways to thank Hashem. The Weisfish clan have made sure to recycle, reuse and re.... (can't remember what the third one was) with their fun water wall. The hungry caterpillar was probably not hungry any more once he met the Smus' and remember to check out the new competition this week. With Love from Aunty Cha! LAG B'OMER CORONA EDITION

My Lag ba’omer Seder Hayom I woke up with a smile. I got dressed and davened happily. After that we put on really loud music and danced. Then we played and had our lessons, then took Shmuli to his Rebbe to get a Lag Ba’omer package. He got a disposable barbecur with a long marshmallow. When we came home we had a program from Cheder via conference call. The secretary and Menahel made a fire together – everyone could hear the music playing and the Menahel’s stories. Every five minutes they made a goirel with the names of the boys from the whole Cheder – to win good prizes. When it was finished we all went to the Menahel’s house to get a peckele and a prize. Whoever won the goirel could pick up their prize. When we came home we watched videos on the lap top from when my father was in Meron. Just then our neighbour said “I will put on loud, booming music and everyone should make a fire in their own garden.” So last minute we all took oil, wood and cardboard and made a fire. In the middle a neighbour came and said the music was too loud so they put it lower. It was so nice to see everyone dancing in their gardens with their fires. As the music was so quiet, we couldn’t hear much so I played keyboard. When everyone was dancing someone made pekelach for all the neighbours with popcorn, a wafer and a long, thin toffee. After that, when everyone went inside the neighbour left the speaker on just for fun. When we went inside we did some crafts then we made our barbecue; it was so much fun! At the same time our neighbour made his fire in the back lane so we had a barbecue with a good fire. After the barbecue I played keyboard and everyone danced really well; we had smoothies to cool ourselves down and we started bedtime. That whole day was a real fun day!!!

Lecovid You: How long have you been involved in ‫ מד''א )מגן דוד אדם‬Red Mogen David [red cross of ‫?)] ארץ ישראל‬ Yechiel Weisfish: I stared training with MDA last year after ‫ חנוכה‬.Training took 3 months and I began volunteering after ‫ פורים‬ last year. LY: How did you get involved ‫?מד''א‬ YW: I have always been open to learning new things and helping people so when a course in English was advertised, I decided to join and since joining the MDA family I have never looked back. LY: What things did you need to qualify as volunteer for ‫?מד''א‬ YW: Obviously, there was the training which was all held in English, I then had to improve my Hebrew to be able to work as a team. I also had to get extra immunisations as we get close to all kinds of ill people and have an increased risk of catching something. LY: Have you completed it all? YW: Almost. After ‫ סוכות‬I decided to do further training which I almost completed; my last test was cancelled due to COVID-19 so I’ll have to take that when I get back. I have also done other courses on the side such as MICU (Mobile intensive care unit) training as well as some special training to deal with the Coronavirus. LY: How often do you go to help in ‫?מד''א‬ YW: It depends. We have to do a minimum of 2 shifts a month but I volunteer in 2 different branches, so I end up going at least once a week. Sometimes if some of my friends open a shift I’ll join them.

You can’t play the part if you don’t look the part. LY: Is there any pay for working in ‫?מד''א‬ YW: Actually, we have to pay! We each pay every year for insurance and a bit extra to pay for coffee for the ambulance station. We do get benefits such as discounts at certain shops and free access to concerts and events. There are also workers such as admin staff, paramedics and some drivers who get a wage.

LY: Do you have a uniform you have to wear when working for ‫?מד''א‬ YW: You can’t play the part if you don’t look the part. MDA is very strict on uniforms, just by looking at someone’s uniform I can tell what their level of training is and how long they have been in MDA. Some items are even different for volunteers and workers.

LY: Do you have to pay for it? YW: Basic items are free. We have a special shop where we can extra items. Sometimes I help in the shop so I get extra things for free. We also swap items with other friends in MDA; we have a special WhatsApp group for that LY: How many do you get? YW: Everyone who starts gets one shirt one pair of trousers and one belt. We also get an extra item for every 200 hours of service. We also get a new coat or jumper at the beginning of winter every two years. LY: What is a normal day for you? YW: That’s gonna be a whole separate article. LY: What is the most exciting story you can tell me? YW: Unfortunately we don’t get very exciting stories. One nice story that happened with a friend of mine: A child got hit by a car and was very scared so one of the paramedics bought slush to calm everyone down. LY: What is that? YW: It is the computer screen in the ambulance. LY: What does it tell you? YW: Where the call is and what the case. LY: So what is funny about it? YW: It says the call is at the local restaurant. LY: What was the problem? YW: The problem was at the MDA control centre they were hungry and gave us a shopping list! LY: That was funny. what message do want to give to children who want to volunteer for MDA or Hatzola? YW: Go for it! We learn in chazal ‫כל המקיים‬ ‫נפש אחת מישראל כאילו קיים עולם מלא‬. It's also a very rewarding experience but it's very hard work!

Our Water Wall By Yitzy Weisfish

On Sunday we made a water wall out of bottles. We used a ketchup bottle, fizzy drinks bottles, milk bottles, blackcurrant bottle, a bit of hose, oil bottles and a bit of our broken rubber bat and little water bottles. We also used grape containers and fizzy drink lids. We each had our own “water path” on a wood wall and we could choose what to use. Nosson Tzvi used 1 comfort bottle for his starter part. We poked holes into a lid of a milk bottle and it looked like a shower. We

stuck things with a staple gun, screws and nails. Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Weisfish thought of an idea. We made it into a pretend sweet factory. The organiser of the factory was Rabbi Shmulli Weisfish. The starter things were for all the ingredients for the sweets. The second things were pipes. Nosson Tzvi’s third thing was a filter for the sweets (made from the milk bottle shower). Nosson Tzvi made sugary sweets and diet sweets, Shmulli’s made sugary ones and mine was diet sweets again.

THE ULTIMATE STORY OF

INTERNATIONAL SHOCHET By Aunty Cha Firstly, Tzvi Yehudah asked how the Shechita has changed with Coronavirus. Well, firstly, the shochtim can’t travel abroad (or don’t want to) so Shechita has to take place in England (though some of the meat goes abroad to France, Holland etc.) Many shechitas in the UK actually shecht abroad, so first they need to find an abbatoir in England and can only use local shochtim (not Israeli). It needs to be an abbatoir that already does or did kosher before so that they have the right machinery and set-up. Before Pesach, I went to Oxford to shecht (twice) – that was a long trip, and I stayed overnight in a hotel (yes, they are still open!). That was for a French Shechita. (The shochtim don’t want to travel but the meat doesn’t seem to mind!). So, Boruch Hashem I am extremely busy because of Coronavirus! Now for the story of the five tickets in one day. Each Sunday evening, I flew from City Airport to Ireland. However, one Sunday night my ticket to Ireland was cancelled as it had begun to snow. The shechita ordered me a ticket from Luton airport for the next morning. However, by the time morning came, the flights from Luton were also cancelled. Flights were, however, leaving from Heathrow and I was told to leave early Monday morning to make my way to airport.

That wintry morning, I woke up to find a white London. Having to catch that flight and not managing to get a taxi due to the inclement weather, I put on my white wellies, took my suitcase and walked to the hill. Taking a bus, I arrived at Manor House underground station to find it closed due to the snow. My colleague told me that Finsbury Park Station was open so, not managing to catch a bus, I walked there in the snow to meet him there. Finsbury park was open however the trains were not going overground so they wouldn’t go to Heahtrow. We therefore took a taxi (who charged double) to take us to Heathrow. It was chaotic there. Some flights were going, others cancelled and we were told to wait for further information. We were then told to check in our suitcases. After waiting a long time, they announced that our flight was cancelled! Surprise! We had to go down to the arrivals to fetch our suitcases from the carousel. This was the third flight booked so far. We tried to get another flight but couldn’t get one. Never the less, Gatwick had flights going. We took a black taxi to Gatwick and met up another shochet there. By now it was late afternoon and the flight was meant to leave at seven in the evening. Gatwick was even more chaotic that Heathrow with a sea of people – you

literally could not see the floor. Stranded people were everywhere. There was one central queue for everyone at the check-in desks even before security. At the end of the line, they directed everyone to the correct desks. You can only imagine the queue and the panic as well as the uncertainty. By then I was also famished and the shops at the airport had emptied of food. Arriving at the end of the queue, they directed us to Aer Lingus and checked in our suitcases. They were positive that they were going to fly. Past security and off to the gate we went. At the gate, they announced ………… that they would not be flying. We were told to go to home and come back the next day. All the surrounding hotels were booked or extremely expensive. The shechita found us a hotel about a half hour’s drive from the airport. We waited three hours to get a taxi! The hotel was set in a forest and looked like a castle. I would have enjoyed it if it wouldn’t have been 11 o’clock at night and my stomach would not have been rumbling so much. Our suitcases remained checked in at the airport. Starving, we phoned my brother Shloimy who came in the icy conditions to bring us Hermolis food. In the morning, the flight was delayed once again as they had to de-ice the planes! And we couldn’t believe that they were cleaning the runways with……………….. shovels!!! Eventually we arrived in Ireland on my fifth airplane ticket. More stories to follow……….
