With the end of World War II, Europe lay in ruins. Governments struggled to begin the process of rebuilding. In the Netherlands and Belgium, many young people and families were looking for new opportunities to build their future. Canada was seen as the answer for many.
The Kiondyke: Growing a New Community is the story of 40 famiiies who made the decision to cross the Atlantic, some by ship, some by plane to start a new life. Newlyweds, single men and women, young families and families with mature children arrived in the late 1940s and early 1950s seeking a better life.
From clearing the bog to create some of the best farming land in the area, to establishing a school, church and a cooperative for agriculture products, to introducing soccer to the area, these people created a community where none had existed before.
Some families stayed, others moved on but they all contributed to the legacy that will forever be known as The Klondyke.
