Historic move as Anambra names its first female SSG, signaling continuity in reform and inclusive governance
In a landmark decision, the Governor of Anambra State, Soludo, has appointed Chiamaka Nnake as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), making her the first woman to occupy the role in the state’s history.
Nnake, a seasoned finance and public sector professional, previously served as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, where she played a key role in shaping fiscal strategy and driving economic initiatives within the state
Her appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening governance structures while promoting gender inclusion in leadership.
With a strong background that spans both the private and public sectors including experience at PricewaterhouseCoopers Nnake brings a wealth of expertise in strategy, policy development, and economic planning. Her elevation to the position of SSG is expected to reinforce the state government’s reform agenda and enhance coordination across ministries, departments, and agencies as Anambra continues to pursue sustainable growth and development.
Chiamaka Nnake started her career with PwC, gaining strong experience in finance and advisory, before moving into public service. As Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, she led reforms improving budget transparency and collaborated with global institutions like the World Bank and United Nations Development Programme.
Now Secretary to the State Government, Nnake drives policy coordination and strategic initiatives, advancing efficient governance and sustainable development in Anambra State.

The event on Entrepreneurial Opportunities in a Green Economy, organized by the LBS Sustainability Centre, brought together participants to explore emerging business prospects within the growing green and sustainable economy
The session highlighted how entrepreneurs can leverage environmentally friendly innovations and sustainable practices to create businesses that drive economic growth while addressing environmental challenges. It also provided valuable insights and discussions on the role of entrepreneurship in promoting sustainability and long-term development
Prof. Olayinka David-West, of Lagos Business School, recently shared key insights on AI and the future of work on CNBC Power Lunch West Africa.
She emphasized that the AI conversation must go beyond skills to how work itself is evolving across workers, tools, and capabilities while highlighting the urgent need to rethink Africa’s informal sector. She also noted that AI is designed to enhance human thinking, not replace it, and called for stronger collaboration and digital infrastructure to drive inclusive growth.
Her message is clear: building Africa’s future workforce requires intentional action, adaptive learning, and systems that unlock opportunity at scale.
