Blackhaugh Suffolks Flock established c. 1966 / Signet Recorded since 2006.
Bred and selected for over 25 years for ease of lambing, lamb vigour at birth and rapid growth from grass. April born and raised on grass (no creep feed) Signet recorded with most of the rams in the top 5% of the breed for Terminal Index. Selected for - maternal traits, vigour at birth, growth and muscle with natural fleshing - from grass!!
Suffolk Profit traits Using high index Terminal sires selected for “Easycare” traits has been proven in numerous trials to increase profitability. Blackhaugh Suffolks also have high maternal indexes and will leave lambs suitable for retention as replacements.

“Chevease” In 2002 easy fleshing, maternal, hardy Cheviot ewes were crossed with an Easycare tup and over generations this cross has evolved into a fully shedding, moderate sized, efficient, maternal / dual purpose composite flock which genetically is still predominantly 50% Easycare /50% Cheviot.
Lambed outside from mid-April with minimal intervention the Blackhaugh flock is bred and selected to reduce labour requirement – easier outdoors lambing, no castration or tail docking required, no crutching, no shearing, huge reduction in fly strike, no dagging. Tups used in the past were all nursed twins but with numbers of lambs scanned now high enough a few of the better singles are kept for breeding – all used as lambs.

Sale Format Viewing available from 3pm and the sale will commence at 4:30pm. Rams will be sold via auction through the ring to the highest bidder. Buyers attending will be required to register at the sale on the day and give their buyer’s number to the auctioneer at the fall of the hammer.
Payment after the sale Payment via cheque, cash or bank transfer to be completed after the sale. Buyers will require their CPH number and Vehicle Registration at the payment desk.
Collection of Rams Rams can be collected only after the end of the sale. Buyers will be required to show their invoice and movement form. Buyers can also leave purchased rams at the farm to be collected, upon arrangement with Andrew Elliot, within a week of the sale.
Warranty & Health Status All rams have been checked prior to the sale to ensure they are fit for purpose, but any problems subsequent to purchase can be raised with Andrew Elliot. The rams are: Vaccinated annually with Bravoxin Vaccinated for Blue Tongue CLA- and OPA-free Injected with Cydectin 2% to cover both internal and external parasites on September 2nd.
