Consumer & Trading Standards The Transport of Animals (Cleansing and Disinfection) (Scotland) Regulations 2005 The above Regulations came into force on the 27th of January 2006. Animals to be transported:  Hoofed animals  Domestic fowl, turkeys, geese, ducks, guinea fowls, quails, pigeons, pheasants, partridges and ratites.  Racing Pigeons The Regulations require that any bird purchased from a sale at a market can only be transported in a container that has been cleansed and disinfected before the animal or bird is a loaded onto it. It also means that any carrying container should be of a type that can be cleansed and disinfected so a cardboard box would not be suitable for this purpose. All cleansing and disinfection must be carried out so as to reduce the risk of disease transmission by transporting. Failing to comply with this requirement is an offence under the Regulations. Any person found guilty of an offence under these Regulations shall be liable of a fine up to £5000. For further advice please contact the Animal Health & Welfare Officer on 01698 455696.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF SALE The Sale will be conducted subject to the Conditions of Sale of Lawrie & Symington Ltd as approved by the Institute of Auctioneers and Appraisers in Scotland which will be on display in the Auctioneer’s office on the day of sale. No animal may be sold privately prior to the sale but must be offered for sale through the ring. Animals which fail to reach the price fixed by the Vendor may be sold by private treaty after the Auction. All such sales must be passed through the Auctioneers and will be subject to full commission. Reserve Prices should be given in writing to the auctioneer prior to the commencement of the sale and not on the entry form. All stock must be numbered and penned in accordance with the catalogued number on arrival at the market. Lot number tags will be clipped up in your allocated pen(s) – it is the Vendor’s responsibility to ensure these are on the relevant animal prior to entry of Show and/or Sale Rings. Failure to do so will result in rejection of auction sale. Vendors of Sheep will be required, by Declaration incorporated in the official Entry Form, to give a Warranty of Soundness in respect of udder for all their entries. Physical defects in sheep, cattle and horses must be declared on the entry form or to the auctioneer at time of sale. No substitutes to entries for general Rare Breed Sale will be accepted after closing date of Wednesday 5th August 2026 at strictly 12noon. Any substitutes brought on the sale day WILL NOT BE OFFERED FOR SALE. There is exception for Society Show & Sale Sheep, these should be indicated to the office no later than 2 days prior to the Sale at strictly 12noon to organise a Substitute Catalogue for collection on day of sale. All stock should be accompanied to the sale by the relevant documentation i.e., Passports for Cattle and Licenses for Sheep & Goats. Pigs should not be removed from premises without an official licence. All stock will be sold as unregistered, if no registered number is given on the entry form. Entries will only be accepted if accompanied with correct Entry Fees. Please refer to Entry Packs for fees. Entries should be on the first come first served basis, allowing for the number of pens available. All purchasers please note that there is a 5% buyer’s commission on all lots bought on the day. Anybody wishing to bid on or purchase any lots must first purchase a Buyer’s Registration Card at the main office. Fee stated at office. Vendor’s warranty - The vendor warrants that any ram sold as a stock ram for the amount in paragraph (j) of the Appendix or more is capable of and effective at natural service. This warranty is a 10 week warranty. Purchaser’s rights - If the purchaser proves a breach of warranty then the purchaser may return the ram to the vendor who shall, at the purchaser’s option, either replace the ram with another ram of equal value which is capable of and effective at natural service, or refund the purchase price together with such costs and charges as the purchaser may be entitled to under these Conditions. Notice of a claim must be supported by a veterinary surgeon’s certificate confirming that: the ram’s incapacity or ineffectiveness is not the result of injury, accident or illness happening after the time of the sale: and the purchaser’s breeding stock are not responsible for the ram’s incapacity or ineffectiveness. Female Sheep Proving Barren

Vendor’s warranty – The vendor warrants that any female sheep sold as being in lamb is in lamb at the time of sale. This warranty is a 21 day warranty. Purchaser’s rights - If the purchaser proves a breach of warranty he may exercise his rights under Condition 66. Notice of a claim must be supported by a veterinary surgeon’s certificate.

EXPORT NOTICE

As of 1st January 2021, Lawrie & Symington Limited are not able to offer direct export for sheep due to new exporting rules. If you are a buyer from Northern Ireland, Eire, or the European Union then sheep cannot be moved direct from a sale. It is the responsibility of of the Vendor and/or Purchaser to make the necessary arrangements. Please consult the vendor to check if they are willing to assist with this and what cost will be involved. 1. Entries are restricted to registered sheep from fully paid-up members of the Dartmoor Sheep Breeders’ Association. Entry fees will be paid at the time of entry, with no refunds, whether the sheep are offered for sale or not. 2. All entries must comply with current Defra regulations and be accompanied to and from the sale by all necessary statutory documentation. 3. All sheep must comply with the ear tagging requirements of the DSBA and must also be identified in accordance with the current Defra regulations. 4. Sheep entered with incorrect identification; with entry forms bearing incorrect or incomplete information; or not accompanied by the appropriate fee, will not be offered for sale. 5. Ewes that have been running with a ram will not be accepted for sale except at a flock dispersal carried out under DSBA conditions of sale. 6. The highest approved bidder shall be the purchaser. However, if a dispute arises between two or more bidders, the lots disputed shall be put up again and resold at the discretion of the auctioneers whose decision is final. 7. The auctioneers shall regulate the amount of each bid. 8. On the fall of the hammer the purchaser shall give their name and address and shall remove purchases not later than close of the market on the day of the sale. 9.The auctioneer having described the sheep to the best of their ability from the description given by the owners or their agents will not be responsible for any inaccuracies. 10. All stock purchased shall be at the purchaser’s risk at the fall of the hammer subject to any variations to this rule that may be contained within the auctioneers’ conditions of sale exhibited at the sale yard. 11.The minimum hammer price for shearling rams will be 150gns, all other rams 100gns and shearling ewes will be 125gns. 12. All prize winners for which the owner is offered the hammer price as detailed above (12) shall be sold or the prizes won will be forfeited. 13. Rams and ewes will be sold according to warranties published and displayed in the market where the sale takes place 14. All sheep will be sold subject to an inspection. Inspectors will be appointed by the DSBA council to conduct a physical, not veterinary, inspection of all sheep. It is the responsibility of the vendor to ensure that sheep presented for sale meet the requirements of the inspection, namely: 15. Sheep must not be lame and must be free from signs of contagious or infectious diseases. 16. Sheep must be of standard conformation and presented in good condition. Sheep must be sound of mouth. The biting surface of the incisor teeth should come into direct contact with the dental pad. All sheep must be presented in a natural condition. 17.Testicles should be more or less the same size and should be the average size for the age of the ram. They should be fully descended into the scrotum and free from palpable lumps and swellings. 18. Ewes must be correct in the mouth and udder. 19. If faults are found, the vendor will be informed that the auctioneer will declare the fault before the sheep is sold, otherwise the sheep can be withdrawn from the sale. The Inspectors’ decision will be final. 20. Prospective purchasers must satisfy themselves that the sheep they buy are of the standard they require. Complaints under Condition 16, 17 and 18 must be made to the auctioneer on the day of the sale. 21. The DSBA does not accept responsibility for accidents to persons, animals, or property at the sale. 22. The sale will be conducted under the auspices of the DSBA. Whilst every care is taken in compiling this catalogue, the association does not accept responsibility for any errors which may occur. The sale will be strictly in catalogue order. 23.
