All sheep will be sold under the Auspices of the Society and the conditions of sale relevant to the sales centre – either IAAS or LAA 59 Stock Rams

59.1 Vendor’s warranty - The vendor warrants that any ram sold as a stock ram for the amount in paragraph (j) of the Appendix or more is capable of and effective at natural service. This warranty is a 10 week warranty.

59.2 Purchaser’s rights - If the purchaser proves a breach of warranty then the purchaser may return the ram to the vendor who shall, at the purchaser’s option, either replace the ram with another ram of equal value which is capable of and effective at natural service, or refund the purchase price together with such costs and charges as the purchaser may be entitled to under these Conditions. Notice of a claim must be supported by a veterinary surgeon’s certificate confirming that:

(a) the ram’s incapacity or ineffectiveness is not the result of injury, accident or illness happening after the time of the sale: and

(b) the purchaser’s breeding stock are not responsible for the ram’s incapacity or ineffectiveness.

As of 1st January 2021, Lawrie & Symington Limited are not able to offer direct export for sheep due to new exporting rules. If you are a buyer from Northern Ireland, Eire, or the European Union then sheep cannot be moved direct from a sale. It is the responsibility of of the Vendor and/or Purchaser to make the necessary arrangements. Please consult the vendor to check if they are willing to assist with this and what cost will be involved.

The Suffolk Sheep Society Code of Conduct

As a member, employee volunteer or associate, of the Suffolk Sheep Society you are part of a renowned breeder organisation that prides itself on representing the world’s finest sheep breed, producing premium quality lamb and breeding stock

In working together all members, the Society employees and Council representatives must respect each other’s role in maintaining this pedigree within the domestic and world market.

From time to time, you may experience issues or concerns regarding your membership or services that you engage with, this code of conduct outlines the correct process a member should follow to gain a resolution to any difficulties they are experiencing.

The Code also outlines on a day-to-day basis the usual expectations that employees, members and council representatives should expect, using the adage -

Give Respect, Get Respect

All parties have the right to work for and with the Society in an environment that: -

✓ Promotes Dignity at Work

✓ Encourages Individuals to treat each other with respect

✓ Advocates speaking politely, openly, and honestly with others

✓ Is open transparent and fair

✓ Encourages the parties to take responsibility for each other

✓ Encourage and create a culture free from inappropriate behavior.

If any party goes against any of these codes, then a full investigation will be in itiated through the Complaints Committee (Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary) with the view to addressing the situation through the Disputes and Disciplinary committee to reach an outcome. The process being duly followed, the decision of the committee is final.

For avoidance of any doubt these include but not exclusive to, written or verbal abuse, intimidation, harassment, bullying, attempted or actual physical violence, damage to property or any action that may bring the Society, director’s employees or membership into disrepute will not be tolerated.

If as a member, you wish to raise a concern or complaint please put the details in writing to, the CEO at the society office. This will be acknowledged within five working days. All cases will be dealt with on an individual basis and the receipt confirmation will specify, depending on the nature of the query, the likely length of time next steps will be taken to resolve the issue raised.

FOR THE ATTENTION OF ALL VENDORS AT SOCIETY SALES

To protect the integrity of the breed it is important that sheep presented at Society events represent the best the Suffolk can offer. With this in mind members’ attention is drawn to the following:

1. ARTIFICIAL COLOURING - Bye Laws

16.14 No artificial colouring of hair on heads/legs, dressing, bleaching or chemical agent (except Department of Environment, Fisheries and Rural Affairs’ approved and recognised show dip and colourless oil on the head) shall be used on or applied to sheep entered for such show. If any sheep is found by the Inspectors or veterinary surgeons to have been artificially coloured:

16.14.1 The owner shall upon being so required by the stewards forthwith remove such sheep and all other sheep in the same consignment from the Society Sale and the sale ground.

16.14.2 The matter shall be referred by the Secretary to the Disputes and Disciplinary Committee pursuant to Articles 45 and 46 of the Society’s Articles of Association

2. HAIR SAMPLES - Hair samples will be taken randomly by the veterinary surgeon(s) or Society representatives. A number of these will be selected at a later date and tested under clinical conditions for non-approved artificial colouring. Where found, the breeder will be notified in writing of the findings and banned from entry into any Society Sale or Society Show held during the next calendar year.

3. INCORRECT MOUTHS/TESTES - The veterinary surgeons will, without limitation, inspect for correct mouths and evidence of mouth tampering and, in the case of rams, testes. Any sheep which is not approved by the Inspectors and/or veterinary surgeons shall upon being so required by the stewards forthwith remove such sheep and shall not be entered at any other Society sale and cannot be registered with the Society. The decisions of the Inspectors and veterinary surgeons on all such matters are and shall be final and binding, and (in the absence of bad faith) without any responsibility or liability on their part.

PLEASE NOTE: There will be no appeal to these decisions on the day
