Letter from the President: A REFLECTION
It is with great pride and deep gratitude that we share the 2024–2025 Lausanne Annual Report, which stands as a testament to the power of community, the tremendous impact of continual self-reflection and the enduring power of philanthropy.
This year, we’ve seen remarkable growth and continued innovation made possible by the extraordinary commitment of those who believe in Lausanne’s mission. The strength of our school lies in its people, and thanks to your unwavering support, volunteerism and heart, our students and our school are thriving.
The philanthropic spirit that defines our community is not only sustaining Lausanne’s present — it is actively shaping our future. Your contributions enable transformative educational experiences, attract and retain world-class faculty and ensure that every Lausanne student is equipped to lead with integrity, curiosity and purpose. Your gifts, both large and small, are investments in generations to come. For that, we are endlessly grateful.
We are incredibly fortunate to have such thoughtful leadership helping steward Lausanne’s mission and vision. With care and dedication, our Board continues to support the school’s strategic direction and long-range success.
Lausanne is more than a school. It is a vibrant, global community united by a shared belief in the power of education to change lives. As we look ahead, I hope this report not only informs but also inspires. I hope it fills you with pride — pride in our students, our faculty, our mission and most of all, in the love and loyalty of a community that shows up time and again.
Thank you for being a vital part of Lausanne’s story. The future is bright, and together, we’re building it one extraordinary step at a time.
Mike Derrick President,
Lausanne Board of Trustees

AWARDS & HONORS
Young Alumni Panel
The Lausanne Way Award
The Lausanne Way award is presented annually to an individual who serves as a powerful inspiration to our community through actions which embody the core values of The Lausanne Way.
On September 19, The Lausanne Way Award was presented to two notably gracious individuals – Max Aldrich and Scott Dawson – each of whom are dedicated former trustees, proud parents of alumni and longtime members of the Lausanne community.
Without the time, energy, passion and philanthropic support given unconditionally by these two, our school would simply not be the success it is today.
On January 6, Lausanne hosted the 2025 Young Alumni Panel with eight extraordinary graduates who graciously discussed a variety of topics, including the college application process, how to properly research schools and career interests and how Lausanne prepares its students for the future. Following the Q&A, Upper School students received the opportunity to network with their fellow alumni.

Chair of Ideas
One of the school's most prestigious honors, the title of Chair of Ideas has been awarded 26 times since 1994 to Lausanne alumni and other distinguished individuals, continuing a tradition that began with the school's Distinguished Speaker Series in the 1960s during which individuals such as Margaret Mead, William F. Buckley, B.F. Skinner and Aldous Huxley spoke to our students.
On February 28, this honor was bestowed upon Cameron Payne ’13, who boasts an incredible NBA career, having launched his pro status with the Oklahoma City Thunder and going on to play for teams such as the Chicago Bulls, the Phoenix Suns and most recently, the New York Knicks.
But long before beginning his professional career, Cameron made a lasting impact on Lausanne’s own basketball program. In his senior year, he was named Mr. Basketball, becoming the second Lausanne player in history to receive the coveted award. That same season, he led the school to its first-ever state championship in boys’ basketball.
Upon accepting the title of Chair of Ideas, Cameron passionately spoke to Upper School students about his time here at Lausanne, emphasizing the importance of each student in the room taking advantage of the opportunities in front of them and insisting, “You are in the perfect school to make this happen. These people are going to push you. You can walk through the doors, and it feels like love. You want that forever.”
Commencement Speaker
On May 24, Lausanne had the distinct privilege of welcoming Dr. Patrice Reed as the Class of 2025 Commencement Speaker. A respected physician and founding partner of Memphis Pediatrics, Dr. Reed currently serves in General Pediatrics at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. With over 35 years of experience in medicine — and more than two decades of service to families in the Memphis community — she brought wisdom, heart and deep perspective to this milestone moment.
Delivering her address alongside her son, Jarred, Lausanne’s Alumni Board President, made the day even more meaningful. It was a moment she described as one she’ll cherish for a lifetime.
For nearly 30 years, the Reed family has been an integral part of this community, as Dr. Reed and her husband, Jarvis, have watched all four of their children — Jarred ’09, Jessica ’14, Jordan ’17 and Jason ’19 — walk across the Lausanne stage.
As shared during her remarks, Lausanne has always been more than a school — now and forever, we’re a family.

We are inspired to give to Lausanne so that other students may benefit from the rich educational environment in the same way that our grandsons have through Lausanne’s financial aid program. We give so that the school can continue to be an enriching, state-ofthe-art learning environment with gifts funding facility upgrades, faculty professional development and so much more. We give because it is an extension of our family values — values which we work to pass on to our grandsons, Isaiah and Arthur.

As an academic, I understand how important education is to opening minds and unlocking our potential to become engaged, compassionate members of the communities we call home. Rohini and I support Lausanne because it embraces an international outlook — something we believe the world needs now more than ever. Through our giving, we hope, in some small way, to support current Lausanne students who will go on to do remarkable things in the arts, social sciences, sciences and business both in Memphis and around the globe.

Lower School students hosted Lausanne’s annual Writer's Guild to celebrate their creativity and showcase the hardback books they wrote, edited, illustrated
Land published themselves.
Students, families and friends gathered in EPAC for a special presentation by American cartoonist, comic book writer and screenwriter Judd Winick. Afterward, guests spread across campus to listen in awe as students read their novels aloud. Meanwhile, Judd signed copies of his books in Tanner Lobby, where student artwork inspired by illustrations from his New York Times bestselling Hilo series, was proudly displayed.
This year, our library expanded by more than 400 books thanks to generous community support. Librarian Kate Hall carefully curated several new titles which sparked students’ imaginations, making sure our young authors had plenty of inspiration at their fingertips, from graphic novels to biographies and beyond.
With a growing library and a community that believes in the power of books, our young writers continually prove that every story, read or written, helps us imagine, connect and grow.

Lausanne’s House system plays a vital role in Middle School life, fostering connection across grade levels, encouraging leadership and providing students and faculty the opportunity to work together outside of the academic arena and build relationships through competitions which promote a healthy sense of school spirit.
Throughout the school year, students fill the Main Gym with palpable energy and excitement during House games, a major component of the House system. As students face off in relays, team challenges and creative contests, they form connections that transcend both classrooms and grade levels, and the gym becomes a space where camaraderie grows, leadership shines and everyone feels part of something much larger.
This year, the experience was even more exciting thanks to much-needed enhancements to the gym’s lighting and sound systems. The bright, modern lights and crystal-clear sound created an atmosphere that felt more like a professional arena, making each game day even more impactful. These upgrades heavily reinforced the importance of investing in spaces where students thrive.
LynxServe, Lausanne’s service-learning program, made an extraordinary impact this year, logging more than 2,200 volunteer hours.
From cheering on runners at the St. Jude Memphis Marathon to delivering meals with MIFA, our students proved that intentional acts of service acts can have a very real impact on our community.
LVikram Srinivas ’26 captured the spirit that drives the club's success in stating, "We love giving back, but it's also fun. Volunteering with friends brings us closer while helping others."
LynxServe stands out for combining big community projects with creative ways to get more students involved. Large-scale food bank events sit side by side with inventive donation drives, so everyone has a chance to pitch in. "Accessibility is key," explained Ruby Gsanger ’27. "Some students just need the right opportunity to step up and serve."
Each month, members tackled new service projects which helped people together. Participation is entirely voluntary, which makes the club's impressive number of service hours even more impressive. "No one is forced to come," shared Ari Schwartz ’27. "Yet people show up, again and again. They're dedicated and genuine. It makes you hopeful for the future."
LynxServe is far more than a club – it’s an ongoing lesson in compassion, teamwork and the power of showing up. In a busy world where good intentions often get lost, these students actively remind us what can happen when service becomes part of our daily lives. One hour at a time, they’re changing their community — and themselves — for the better.

Reflections on Lausanne and the World Beyond ALUMNI: THEN & NOW
Armand Amini ’16
Boston, MA
Tell us a bit about life since Lausanne:
Since high school I’ve had two primary interests. The first is the brain – I’m really interested in basic neurobiology, philosophy, how different people see the world and mental health. The other is film, which I initially pursued through my capstone project at Lausanne, where I started a filmmaker's club in which my classmates, Mr. Wilson and I worked on short films!
I attended USC for undergrad where I majored in neuroscience and minored in cinematic arts while continuing to pursue my interest in the science of the brain through my coursework and computational neuroscience research into neuropsychiatric illness. I also explored the mental health side aspect through creating and leading a peer counseling program. While studying cinematic arts at USC and working in film/TV development as a pre-med student, I learned that film and television has the potential to facilitate empathy and connection between viewers and characters from very different worlds and can serve as a uniquely accessible and impactful form of health education.
What pushed me specifically toward medicine though was my experience studying abroad at King's College London through the Health and Society program, which focused largely on the art of medicine. I learned that medicine is really this perfect marriage of science and art, which I thoroughly enjoyed engaging in through my work in film and peer counseling, all in service of others.
I arrived at Harvard Medical School with this complementary interest of narrative medicine in the form of medical filmmaking with my core interest being clinical medicine. I was interested in treating the whole patient by addressing a person’s mental and physical health. Given my background in neuroscience and mental health, I initially thought I would pursue psychiatry or neurology but found internal medicine to be the specialty in which providers were able to treat the whole patient.
While engaging in my classes and clinical rotations, I was also able to pursue some of my extra-clinical interests. I co-founded the Student Mental Health Task Force and served as the Head of Education, developing a comprehensive, peer-led mental health and wellness training for all incoming students. Additionally, I wrote a pilot script based on real patient and provider stories for a proposed medical TV series that highlights systemic issues in healthcare, exploring topics like physician burnout and health equity with the goal of educating viewers and advocating for reform. I've partnered with a senior psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) who has worked on shows like ER and Law & Order: SVU, for which we are currently in the midst of the pitching process.
This past May, I graduated from medical school and have recently begun my Internal Medicine Residency at MGH. I’m excited to focus on growing into the best patient-centered physician I can be while further developing my interests in medical education and narrative medicine and exploring various paths/sub-specialties within internal medicine.
What’s your favorite Lausanne memory?
One of my favorite memories from Lausanne is actually my very first memory there. At the start of kindergarten, as my parents were dropping me off, I remember telling them how terrified I was of not being able to make friends. One of my classmates overheard this and immediately came up to me and said, "I'll be your friend!" I quickly learned that Lausanne is an incredibly warm and supportive environment filled with kind people just like my kindergarten classmate. I consistently felt empowered to be myself and explore my interests - however far-ranging they might have been - and seldom felt alone.
How has Lausanne impacted your life?
I spent basically my whole childhood at Lausanne. I met multiple friends who I remain very close with to this day and had unbelievable teachers throughout my time there who left a lasting impression both in terms of how they helped me grow as a kid/ student and in showing me what it means to be a passionate and effective educator. Lausanne is also where I developed the foundation of my unusual combination of interests which I've continued to pursue nearly a decade since graduation. Without my teachers and classmates, I'm not sure who I would've become.
What advice do you have for current Lausanne students?
Clichés are clichés for a reason - have fun, be yourself – yes to both. More specifically though, if there is anything you think is cool or may like, talk to one of your teachers, talk to your classmates and try to learn more about it. Lausanne is a special place to do
this! Pursue as many interests as you're able, and, of course –always prioritize your wellness in a sustainable way. You don’t have to know what you're going to do in the future; in fact, you you shouldn't, and that's a good thing. Use that freedom to do the things you enjoy – they don’t need to be connected or fit into a specific box. This is a unique opportunity in your life to explore without a larger plan in mind, embrace your intellectual curiosity and spend as much time with your friends and family as you can. Over time you’ll figure out the type of person you want to become – in the meantime, enjoy the journey!
Sharwil Bell DeHarte ’08 Memphis, TN
Tell us a bit about life since Lausanne:
After Lausanne, I continued my academic and athletic endeavors, graduating from Rhodes College in 2012 with a major in biology and a minor in business. A couple of highlights from my time there include my induction into the student body Hall of Fame and being awarded First-Team Academic All-America: Women's Basketball. I then went on to graduate from the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Now 10 years into my career as a Physical Therapist, I currently serve my community at 901 Physical Therapy here in Memphis. I enjoy spending time with my family, worshiping and serving with my church community, staying active and cheering on the Grizz with my husband (married on July 19, 2025)!
What’s your favorite Lausanne memory?
It's tough to sum up my time at Lausanne into a single favorite memory, but I think the Class of 2008 Baccalaureate ceremony stands out – it was such a sweet time of funny speeches, a custom song by the late Barry Gilmore, lots of laughter and a few tears shed. I think the personality of the Class of 2008 really shined through. That was my favorite part – the people.
How has Lausanne impacted your life?
Lausanne created a safe space to learn, grow, explore and be challenged in varying areas of interest. My time there helped me develop confidence when faced with a challenge - we can do hard things!
What advice do you have for current Lausanne students?
Choose growth, enjoy the journey and give yourself and others grace in the process.

Since my time at Lausanne, I graduated from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL with a major in international business and a minor in Mandarin Chinese and soon after moved to Hong Kong, where I worked as a Sales & Marketing Manager for a startup Australian sports nutrition company while also playing three seasons of semi-pro rugby for Causeway Bay RFC. In 2016, I moved back to the U.S. and made the decision to become a pilot. Since then, I’ve been a flight instructor, corporate pilot, cargo pilot and just this year, started a new job at Delta Air Lines.
What’s your favorite Lausanne memory?
Definitely playing live at Arts Fest Sports Fest with my band, Stupid Influence.
How has Lausanne impacted your life?
Lausanne prepared me to live in an ever-changing and evershrinking international world, where keeping up with technology, understanding other cultures and continuing to learn new things throughout life are of utmost importance.
What advice do you have for current Lausanne students?
Gain as much knowledge and experience as possible in the coming years – and remember that it is never too late to make career or life changes along the way. If you have the opportunity, get out of the U.S. and travel, work and live in other countries, even if only for a little while. This will give you invaluable experience that will set you apart. As an airline pilot, I would also urge you to consider a career in aviation – it’s the greatest job on earth!

Tell us a bit about life since Lausanne:
In the last 20 years, a lot has happened! I attended the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business, graduating in 2009 with a BS in economics and marketing as well as a minor in French. I then moved to Australia to pass some time while waiting for my job to start (delayed due to the recession). That position (buyer at Abercrombie & Fitch headquarters) took me to Columbus, OH where I remained for 8 years. While I only lasted 2 months at Abercrombie & Fitch, I ended up spending 7 years at a flooring company where I managed marketing and training. I then attended the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business to pursue my MBA, graduating in 2020. I joined Deloitte Consulting in November 2020 and currently serve as a manager in the human capital practice, where my focus is learning strategy work for clients across a variety of industries.
What’s your favorite Lausanne memory?
Teaming up with Ben Church ’05 and singing for my classmates at the Class of 2005 Baccalaureate ceremony.
How has Lausanne impacted your life?
Lausanne built my confidence and offered a safe space for me to explore my intellectual and creative interests.
What advice do you have for current Lausanne students?
Try new things and be a sponge so that you can discover your passions. Knowing what you’re passionate about makes it a lot easier to navigate college and life in general.

Letter from the Headmaster: ONWARD
Each year, Lausanne’s Annual Report celebrates a year of remarkable achievements, from the successes of our students and faculty to the continued growth of our vibrant global community.
There’s a true sense of momentum and excitement surrounding our school’s future, and as we look ahead to the launch of our Centennial Celebration next year, we recognize that we are living through a truly transformative period in our school’s history.
There is tremendous excitement across campus as construction of Lausanne’s new Upper School and Arts Wing is only months from completion. This incredible expansion represents far more than simple brick and mortar – it marks the beginning of a bold investment in the learning environment our students and faculty deserve. So much more lies ahead, including the revitalization and growth of our Lower and Middle School facilities, and these state-of-the-art spaces will soon reflect the excellence of our people — our curious students and dedicated faculty, our visionary board and passionate volunteers and the entire Lausanne community.
Lausanne’s Campaign for Best serves as the foundation for the next century of educational innovation. And while these transformations are inspiring, they cannot be fully realized without your advocacy and generosity. Together, we’re creating the future of Lausanne and truly endless opportunities for our students, faculty and alumni to change the world.
The Lausanne Way forward is truly inspiring, and I’m so grateful to have you with us for every step of this exciting chapter.
Stuart McCathie Headmaster Proud Parent of Kelsey ’10
On behalf of the Development and Community Engagement team, thank you so much for everything you do to support Lausanne.
We quite simply couldn’t fulfill our mission of preparing our students to thrive in college and beyond without you.
Your generosity and active involvement throughout the 2024–2025 school year helped make so many academic, athletic, creative, artistic and innovative successes possible, and we are so grateful.
I hope our Annual Report has been not only inspiring and uplifting but that it has also filled your heart with tremendous pride. There is truly no place like Lausanne. We stand apart because of the innovative and globally-minded education our faculty provide on a daily basis. Our special school — and now our international campus — fosters creativity, innovation, social and emotional support and an elite college-preparatory education in a nurturing and supportive environment for every child who follows The Lausanne Way.
Lausanne is able to provide this education because of you. Our faculty, selfless volunteer leadership, parents, grandparents, alumni and so many others are a part of our unbelievable community. Our strength will always lie in our community — and now our ability to grow and adapt into the future relies tremendously on your support.
The Campaign for Best is a bold and exciting step forward for Lausanne, and the momentum we’ve experienced this year is a direct result of the dedication and belief of supporters like you. Whether you made an annual gift, contributed to the campaign, attended events, served as a volunteer or simply shared your pride in Lausanne with others, your support has made a lasting impact. I invite you to continue to support our worthy mission each and every year and to consider the impact Lausanne’s Campaign for Best will have on our campus, our students and our families for generations to come.
Thank you again for making Lausanne’s community stronger than ever and for helping to provide the very best for our students — now and into the future.
The future is bright!
Gratefully,
