LOVE TO WORK WITH...
Off White was founded in 2013 by Virgill Abloh. Virgil’s vision is to merge streetwear with luxury whilst being free minded with his designs. The name Off White comes from defining the grey area between black and white as colours. Ibrahim Kamara is now the art/image director for the brand, him and Virgil maintained a close relationship so its only right he carries on building the brand for him in his name. Ibraham was born in Sierra Leone but grew up in Gambia. When he turned 16 is when he moved to London and went on to study at Central Saint Martains. He since went on to work with brands like Louis Vuttion, Chanel, Burberry, Marc Jacobs and more. He was also the Editor-in-chief of Dazed magazine while his editorials have also been seen in Vouge, Double, Another and W magazine. The brand its self has collaberated with the likes of Nike, Levis, Jimmy Choo, Ikea, Evian and more. With Virgils main passions known to be art, sports, street culture, skateboarding and graffiti which are all elements encorperated into his work along with current world wide issues.

Miu Miu was founded by Miuccio Prada in 1993 and is known to be the sister brand to Prada. They launched their first ready to wear collection in 2001 and since then the brand has been going from strength to strength. Thier designs are experimenting with the nature of fashion combinding playfulness with elegance to refine femininity. They are known to target a younger demographic with a more affordable range.

H and M was founded in 1947 by Erling Persson we know it today to be a global fashion design company with over 4000 stores. From my research its clear to see they are very transparent with their audience allowing us to see the percentage of male to female imployees and more. There first designer collaberation was with Karl Largerfeld in 2004 and the brand has since worked with Stella McCartney, Robert Cavalli, Versace, Alexander Wang and more. Recently ive saw alot more people of colour in their campaigns which is really nice for the black community to see, from my research they have been using black models since the 1990s when Naomi Campbell modelled for them.

YVES SAINT LAURENT
Yves Saint Laurent was born in August 1936 he is known for creating modern and iconic pieces. He founded his brand in1961 after he had taken over Dior after Christian died so he was already known in the fashion world. When he started his own brand the label went from strength to strength and it was quickley known for his innovative designs and modern approach to womens fashion. His work is known to be inspired by art and different artists like Piet Mondrian, Henri Matisse and more. Culture and history was a big element towards his work using African and Oriential influencers that showcased in a number of collections. He was also brought up in Algeria which is something he experiements with in designs and colours but also personal experiences like when he suffered with his mental health this shaped his aesthetic approach towards the garments. I have always loved his brand for their unreal handbags and overall chic look, but something that stood out to me was his close relationship with Naomi Campbell they have laways been very good friends and she has walked a number of his shows. This really stood out to me becuase it was around this time that diversity was not 100% present within the industry and for him to take her under his wing intitally made him stand out to me from the other designers within that time frame.

NAOMI CAMPBELL
Naomi Campbell born May 1970 is known for being an insperation and supermodel within the fashion industry. Naomi inspries me because from the start of her fashion career she has always delt with racism and discrimination throughtout her whole career within the fashion industry knowing its a predominatly white industry but this did not prevent her from persuing her dream. She then became a black supermodel and one to complete alot of firsts withing black people in the industry which i personally think is special considering all she has been through to get to where she is today. Going throught all the racism and discrimination she did allowed her to know that the industry needs chnage which is something she has advocated for. Being in the medias eye allows room for unwanted scrutiny and public critism on her approach to the industry and what she does with her personal life which is something she has struggled with.

CULTURE
The ideas, customs and social behaviour of a particular people or society. There are seven elements to culture which can include; social organisation, customs, religion, language, government, economy and arts. Culture has it’s importance within the fashion industry for reasons like embracing diversity, shaping identity, preserving heritage, providing social commemtary and influences global trends. Being culturally aware meaning understanding why cultral diversity is important and recognising not everyone will do things in the same manner but being more mindful allows us to be more respectful in how they operate.
