For April, we are producing two editions of Launton Lines. This is a very reduced print edition, The Coronavirus Special, distributed in the village. The full edition (48 pages) is available online at www.issuu.com. Put Launton Lines in the search window at the top left of the opening screen. This print issue focuses on support arrangements in the village. The centre pages update the Village Help leaflet with correct contact details and numbers for all those listed. We also include information from the two pubs offering takeaway and shopping: The Bull Inn (page 3) and The Black Bull (page 6). We summarise main events that have been postponed or cancelled on page 7, and a letter from a grateful villager is on page 8, with a peaceful photo of the Island Pond taken last week. Many thanks to Bicester Print for printing this at short notice, too.
Parish Council Online Meetings
For the duration of the Coronavirus pandemic it has been recommended we do not hold further public meetings of the Parish Council. We are waiting for legislation to be updated but have decided that to continue Parish Council business, a pragmatic approach is the way forward, so intend to hold virtual meetings for future months. With this in mind we have set up an account with a video-conferencing platform Zoom - https://zoom.us/ and now have a virtual Meeting Room at https://us04web.zoom.us/j/5338478874. If you already have Zoom installed (there is an app for the PC, Mac, as well as phones and tablets), the meeting ID is: 533 847 8874. It can also be used in a web browser. Any villager will be able to watch the meeting. As with in-person meetings we will start at 7pm for anyone who wishes to raise anything with the Council, look at planning applications or other meeting papers, and then we will start the formal meeting at 7.30pm. There is no charge for Zoom and you don’t need an account to participate in the meeting. However, it also has the facility to sign up if you wish. Jane already has items for the April agenda. She will need any items for the May agenda by 23 April and by 21 May for the June meeting. We’ll look forward to ‘seeing’ you online! For groceries, write the list before making contact with your volunteer. Call your volunteer with the list and they will shop for you. Try not to leave it until you run out of something in case there is a delay in getting the shopping. IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING PAYMENTS You must never give out your PIN or card to any volunteer under any circumstances. Your volunteer will explain how to pay when you call them. Cancellations, Postponements and other Amendments
All local elections, including Parish Council elections, have been postponed until May 2021. The Village Tidy-up day originally planned for Saturday 18 April will not take place until the autumn: watch for the revised date. The Annual Parish Meeting scheduled for Thursday 21 May has been postponed until later in the year: watch for a rescheduled date. All organisations involved in the village are invited to give a short report and all villagers are welcome to attend. The Parish Council has recently set up an email mailing signup list which is available on the left hand menu of the Parish Council website at www.launton-pc.gov.uk If you’d like to receive email notification just add your details. This will only be used for Parish Council and essential village news. We’ll try not to bombard you - please sign up! The Parish Council website now has a page for Launton Isolation Help with contact details for the group. https://www.launtonpc.gov.uk/launton-isolation-help/ The Launton Village Fete 2020 to be held on Saturday 13 June has been cancelled. The organising group is now concentrating on plans for next year, when the Fete will be held on Saturday 12 June 2021. With the news that the Olympics in Japan will be moved to summer 2021 the theme for 2021 will remain The Olympics Fete, and the beneficiaries will remain as planned, St Mary’s Church and the Bicester ATC Squadron. The LGA Village Walk planned for the weekend of 4-5 April has been cancelled. The LGA hopes to run the Summer Aunt Sally Challenge in August, but this may not be possible. The Bicester Choral and Operatic Society (BCOS) summer show The Mikado has been postponed from the end of May to 29-31 October 2020. Their summer ABBA concert scheduled for 18 July is still subject to change. It looks almost certain that the two Launton Football tournaments (6-aside on 6-7 June, and Girls and Ladies on 20-21 June) will have to be postponed. The remaining programme, and training, for the 2019-20 season has been suspended. Services in St Mary’s Church and at the Congregational Chapel, and the Community Café during school term have all been suspended until further notice.
