I'm Lindsey Fout, textile designer and founder of Last Chance Textiles. I make colorful bandanas and scarves that feel timeless yet super special. My hand-drawn patterns are based on historical references (mostly textiles). Each LCT piece is intended to become a cherished piece that will stand the test of time. My key values include: sustainable and natural fabrics, long-lasting quality, and ethical production.
What’s in a name? Probably lots of good stories and feelings, maybe some not much more than abstract notions, attached in all sorts of ways to that thing we’ve named. When I first moved to California, I was really struck by the vastness of this American West. That first drive across the country and my earliest explorations of the mountains and deserts were peppered with signs that read: “NO GAS OR SERVICE FOR 100 MILES”. Something about retelling the tale of an empty gas tank with nothing around but empty road, and how you unstuck yourself somehow, will stir up a deep love for the great wide open west.
I find myself making one last stop in the last little town on the edge of wilderness to pick up a box of matches, a fuel canister, some chapstick, or just an unspoken peace of mind that I know where I’m headed. It’s these places that have inspired the name.
A Last Chance to gather the things we rely on, to trust what we’ve got and to be certain those things will be a part of whatever comes down the road.
FABRIC GUIDE
ORGANIC COTTON
This lightweight fabric absorbs the screen-printing beautifully, showing the pattern on both sides. The weight and drape are similar to your favorite vintage bandana. Most importantly, our cotton is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard. GOTS means it is better for the earth, the workers, and the consumer.
SILK NOIL
Sometimes referred to as “raw-silk”, silk noil yarns are spun from shorter fibers giving them a cozy, textured hand. Silk bandanas make a great travel companion, keeping you comfortable in both hot and cold climates. It is also machine washable! All of our silk bandanas are naturally hand-dyed with dyes derived from plants and minerals.
ARTISAN HANDWOVEN (KHADI)
The term 'khadi' refers to hand-spun and woven cloth from India. Khadi is made only from natural materials such as cotton, silk, and wool. All of our khadi fabric is developed and handmade in partnership with socially conscious initiatives in rural India. These handwovens are featured in our Cowboy Scarf and Light Silk Cowboy Scarf.
WOOLENS
We use 100% pure wools that are soft, lightweight, and comfortably warm. Our merino and cloud wool meet the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), ensuring ethical sheep care and sustainable land management. Our cashmere meets the Good Cashmere Standard and is sourced from a fully traceable supply chain from farm to finished product.
SILK TWILL
A silk fabric that looks and feels super luxurious yet is durable enough for a lifetime of daily wear. Double-sided printing give these extra versatility to style in countless ways. Each one is finished with an elegant hand rolled hem. Most importantly, our manufactuing partner meets high ethical and environmental standards including SMETA 4 Pillar, GOTS, and Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 certifications.
MODAL TWILL
We chose this fabric quality for its superior drape and cool hand-feel. It was the perfect choice for our dramatically oversized bandanas. The sheer twill weave gives a big impact while still feeling light and airy. This is an ideal fabric for transitional seasons and travel because it provides plenty of warmth and coverage, yet packs down super small.
MORE THAN A BANDANA
Our bandanas are crafted from organic cotton in an ethically certified factory in India. Certifications matter, but so do values. That’s why our partners have built programs that care for both people and the planet.
A portion of profits support a family foundation that provides education for underprivileged girls, with a promise to see them through until they are self-sufficient.
On the environmental side, our factory purifies and recycles its water, using it to grow thriving groves of eucalyptus and pine trees.

NEAR AND FAR, DETAILS MATTER
Incredibly soft cashmere, responsibly sourced and meeting the Good Cashmere Standard, begins its journey in Inner Mongolia. After knitting, it travels to our Portland, Oregon studio, where each piece receives its finishing touch; an embroidered border, stitched one at a time, on a hand operated chainstitch machine.
A double-thickness, reversible knit scarf that’s just as charm ing around your neck as it is tied under your chin to keep your ears warm. Each piece is knit in-house at our studio on a hand-operated knitting machine, using extra-fine merino yarn that’s Responsible Wool Standard certified. The result is a soft, beautifully crafted piece made to be loved.
Made to order, one at a time. Please allow 3–6 weeks for delivery.

ABOUT THE ARTISANS
The mission of Karghewale is to empower artisans to build robust businesses that express their distinctive creative vision. Challenging the status quo of the handloom industry, Karghewale rejects the model of weavers as wage workers. Instead, the collective is built on the belief that weavers are equal partners, valued not only for their skill at the loom, but for their agency and entrepreneurial judgment.
Our Light Silk Cowboy scarves are created by weaver and entreprener Alpana Dey in West Bengal, a region famous for its fine, precise, and lightweight handwovens.
Each scarf comes with a tag that features the name of the hand weaver.

STITCHED IN OUR STUDIO
Each custom piece carries the hum of a hand-operated chain-stitch machine, the same kind once used to craft classic western wear. Guided by steady hands instead of computers, this embroidery holds a timeless, handmade charm.
Show off your hometown pride, team spirit, or shop motto! Let us stitch the word or phrase of your choice with a classic chainstitch script.
We can also add numbers, stars, and hearts. Limit to about 12 characters for best results.
2. REACH OUT TO GET STARTED
Consider if you want the embroidery to be flashy, subtle, or somewhere in the middle. Reach out with your direction and we'll work with you to choose the best thread color and placement based on your vision.
Please keep in mind these are made-to-order on a first-come basis. Lead times vary depending on the season. Pre-payment is required to begin work on custom projects.
