As early as 2019, our Joki hanging nest and our Moki kids hammock were recognized as particularly ergonomic products by the IGR – Institute for Health and Ergonomics . The IGR was formed out of the Interessengemeinschaft der Rückenlehrer/-innen e. V. (Association of Back Care Instructors). The new name confirms that the institute now has a more holistic focus that goes beyond merely back care. The IGR brings experts together to conduct research and provide advice and training on health and ergonomics – and of course to test products.

When a hammock has the shape of a banana, it hangs perfectly. Note that the angles of the strings should be the same on both sides.
Suspension Option for Movement Training
For movement training, the hammock should be hung up like a narrow U. We recommend a suspension with about 50 cm distance between the two suspension points, so that all exercises can be carried out.

Jörg Golombeck
Mr. Golombeck, why do you recommend hammocks in occupational therapy?
The hammock is an essential equipment which I think belongs in every practice where children are treated. The hammock is easy to use and offers high therapeutic benefits.
Could you expand on the therapeutic benefits?
With the help of a hammock you can set a child in motion and activate the vestibular system. Hammock exercises improve and train the tone especially in the cervical-nuchal region. The Moki is like a mini fitness center for kids.
You have chosen to use LA SIESTA hammocks. Why?
In my job I‘ve frequently been concerned with hammocks and have consequently been looking for high-quality products. I finally decided on LA SIESTA products, simply because they‘ve convinced me. My LA SIESTA hammocks lasted 10 years, often longer.
Why do you consider MOKI the ideal hammock for therapeutic use?
Well, the padding offers extra comfort when a child is lying face-down, thus allowing for a prolonged period of excercise or relaxation. The result: more intensive and more effective therapy sessions.
Another asset is the organic cotton fabric; haptic and scent are decicive key factors at the beginning of every therapy. Seals of quality such as the IGR have facilitated my decision to buy LA SIESTA hammocks. How do the kids experience a therapy with Moki?
The rocking motion produces endorphins („feel-good hormones“), offers a sense of freedom and defies gravity. The kids feel they are being held and allowed to let go. Moreover, they are having lots of fun! Consequently they try out things they‘d normally keep away from. They even want to prolong the exercises because they are having so much fun.
Do you recommend the therapeutic use of hammocks at home?
Indeed. Parents thus get a chance to do therapeutic exercises with their kids at home. I hope that one day every household with kids will have a safe, high-quality hammock which opens up a whole new world of complex motion to them. That is my vision.
