Some novices together with one of their new spiritual companion, Sr. Cecille Tuble, RC
SEEKING GOD’S WILL THROUGH SPIRITUAL DIRECTION The Founder, St. John Baptist De La Salle, often sought help from his spiritual director, especially at decisive moments in his life to help him to know God’s will. Like the Founder, the novices also seek help from their spiritual directors at the Cenacle Retreat House and Spirituality Center, Quezon City Philippines every two months, to clear up things about themselves, others and their community and spiritual life. Guided by the Religious Sisters of the Cenacle, the novices are always enlightened and spiritually energized after every session. These experienced spiritual directors are the new personal companions of the novices in their spiritual journey who help them to practice openness to others and to God. The importance of spiritual direction is also stated in the Rule of the Brothers where it is mentioned that it can help the Brothers to discern more clearly the call of God to them (Rule No. 75b) and its significance in the initial formation of the Brothers for it is the fundamental element in the initiation of the consecrated life. (Rule 91g) Indeed God speaks through events and people around us. And these events and people reveal truly the message of God for us.
Reflection
on the MEDITATIONS OF THE FOUNDER 173.1 – Feast of St. Francis of Assisi
“You are required by your work to love the poor, since the task you have in this work is to devote yourself to their instruction. Look upon them with Saint Francis as images of Jesus Christ , and as those who are best disposed to receive his Spirit in abundance. In this way the more affection you show for them, the more you will belong to Jesus Christ.“ It is our Charism to love the poor and for this service the De La Salle Brothers offer their lives. We see God in our students and in those we encounter. We are all beloved children of God and we strive to share God’s love with our students and with our Brothers in community. - Br.
