1890 Universities Career Development Conference ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

From February 24 to 26, 2026, a 14-member delegation from Langston University’s Sherman Lewis School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences attended the 1890 Universities Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The group included 11 students, 2 faculty members, and 1 staff member, who traveled from Langston to Oklahoma City and flew to Atlanta for the three-day event. The 1890 Universities program is a USDA-funded initiative supporting the 19 historically Black land-grant institutions established under the Second Morrill Act of 1890. The annual Career Development Conference is one of its flagship student engagement events, connecting participants with federal career pathways in agriculture and related fields. WHAT STUDENTS LEARNED

The three-day program consisted of professional development workshops covering federal career opportunities, resume writing, interview preparation, and career readiness in agriculture and federal service. Students participated in structured resume workshops and received direct guidance from agency representatives and career development professionals. Sessions focused on practical career readiness: how to navigate federal hiring, build a competitive resume, and present oneself effectively in professional settings.
