After School Programs for PS/JK (PSASP), GR K-5 (ASP), 6-8 (M.A.S.H)
Monday-Friday | 3-5:30 p.m. (unless noted) Begins at 2:30 p.m. for PS/JK. … Teacher-supervised after-school programs for students in grades PS-8 offered to working parents who want a quality experience for their child after school. … PS-Grade 5: Fee for service. Grades 6-8: Free.
All-School Picnic
September A beginning of the year “kick-off ” picnic, at various locations oncampus, to welcome new families and reconnect with old friends and faculty.
Alumni Weekend
October Alumni-centered weekend for reunion classes and all alumni, featuring class parties, an all-alumni cocktail reception, Athletic Hall of Honor inductions and croquet tournament. Events are held at various locations on and off campus.
Annual Giving Fund — The Excellence Fund
Fall Kick-Off (fiscal year runs July 1 - June 30) School families (along with faculty and staff, parents of alumni, grandparents, alumni, former parents and friends) donate annually. The Excellence Fund underwrites everything from field trips and global learning opportunities to technology, assemblies and athletics: the programs that make the LCDS experience exceptional.
Athletics Parents’ Night Cookout
August Opening event for Athletics held in the Physical Education & Athletics Center. Meet LCDS coaches and other parents; learn about department policies and procedures and register for the Cougar Club.
Barnes & Noble Book Fair
December This in-store event (Lancaster & Wyomissing locations) includes guest readers, musical performances and more. All proceeds benefit the LCDS libraries.
Class Parents
Yearly Appointment Two or more parents volunteer to serve as facilitators for each grade. The Parents Association assists with planning activities, field trips, presentations and more.
Cougar Club
Throughout the School Year LCDS’ athletics booster club that provides support for all LCDS teams at all levels.
Dress Down Days
Monthly (check the All-School Calendar) An opportunity for LS/MS students to wear something other than their school uniform.
Eighth Grade Signing Ceremony
End of School Year Program for eighth graders that honors the students’ successful completion of their division.
Enrichment
Weekdays After School and Summertime After-school and summer programs ranging from arts to sports to robotics.
Family Science Night
Last Week of January (every other year) A carnival-like event celebrating science and engineering held in the dining commons, gymnasium and theater. Science fair projects are displayed; students enjoy the many science activity stations, and the winners of the annual Engineering Challenge are determined.
Fifth Grade Bridging Ceremony
End of School Year Program for fifth graders honoring the students’ successful completion of their division.
FundFest
April A gala fundraising dinner/auction, which typically raises more than $150,000. Proceeds benefit programs for LCDS children, faculty and staff, as well as buildings and grounds.
Halloween Festival
October Upper School students plan events and games for Lower and Middle School students who come (in costume!) with their families. This event raises funds for school activites including clubs and the prom.
Hawk Mountain Hike
End of School Year Kindergartners hike at a Berks County conservation site with their parents and their fifth grade buddies to celebrate the end of the school year.
Homecoming
September Student-centered weekend full of traditional activities like the Cougar Bowl (seniors vs. faculty flag football game), Homecoming Dance and bonfire, celebrating our school community at various locations on and off campus.
Ice Festival and Chili Cook-Off
February An all-school family event with a chili cook-off, bounce houses and more. Held at various locations on campus to break up the winter doldrums. All proceeds benefit Lancaster Area Habitat for Humanity.
Lower School Grandparents’/Grandfriends’ Day Tuesday Morning Before Thanksgiving Break A day where Lower School students may bring their grandparents and grandfriends to school. This event allows grandparents to see their grandchild’s school and classes firsthand.
Middle School Grandparents’/Grandfriends’ Day Spring A day where Middle School students may bring their grandparents/grandfriends to school. This event allows grandparents to see their grandchild’s school and classes firsthand.
Model United Nations (MUN)
End of January LCDS is one of ten schools in the nation that sends a select group of seniors to this prestigious conference. Students travel to The Netherlands or Doha, Qatar for an amazing opportunity that challenges them academically, culturally and socially.
Music Lessons
Throughout the School Year In-school private instruction for PS – grade 12 students taught by outside teachers. Payment is arranged between teacher and family.Some teachers also continue lessons at school over the summer. Music lessons are primarily held in the school’s lower level music teaching rooms.
New Parent Reception
August Annual evening gathering to bring new families together, and give them the chance to meet one another and staff, without children, in a social setting.
Parent Admission Network (PAN)
Throughout the School Year A group of parent volunteers who are well educated in all of the advantages of LCDS and whose outreach has a profound impact on the school’s reputation and fiscal health. With guidance, PAN members are encouraged to talk to their friends and neighbors about the advantages of LCDS. Word of mouth, from a trusted friend, is the No. 1 reason people choose to inquire about private schools for their children. Help your friends find out about us!
Parents Association
Throughout the School Year (3 times) A service organization that comprises all LCDS parents. Enhances the quality of life and educational opportunities for students and faculty.
Parents’ Night
August/September Two evening events for parents. MS/US have a combined night, while LS has a separate evening. To give parents the opportunity to meet with faculty and hear curriculum plans for the upcoming year.
Project Arts
Throughout the School Year LCDS’ performing and visual arts booster club holds various events on and off campus that support Country Day arts and connect LCDS to the Lancaster arts community.
Take A Child Outside Week (TACO)
September A week-long event with activities designed to encourage children and adults to spend time together outdoors.
Teacher Appreciation Day (TAD)
February Annual luncheon hosted by the Parents Association to honor LCDS faculty and staff for their dedication and hard work.
Turn the Page Used Book Sale
Spring (every other year) All-school effort to collect used books to sell to LCDS families and the public. Proceeds benefit the LCDS libraries.
