A Message from the A Messageand from the President CEO President and CEO Dear Friends,
Dear Friends,
As we embark on another year, we are hopeful that the presence of the COVID-19 virus continues to weaken, that its threat has dissipated considerably, and that our Staff and Participants are free from any lingering issue. Today, our Participants once again are working either on our campus or in community jobs and otherwise taking advantage of the many opportunities we have to offer them. Over time, the needs of some have changed - whether it is those who have lived here for most of their adult lives, those who have moved here more recently, or others who remain at home with their families. As such, our population has become much more varied.
Perspectives There is no question that the pandemic turned our world upside down, just like everyone else. Everything we came to know about Lambs Farm quickly changed, and we had to be ready to tackle anything that came our way. It has not been an easy road, but our residents and staff worked hard to think outside the box and see opportunity in every challenge. Our 2021 Annual Report shows that we can find hope during turbulent times when we take a step back and look at things from a different perspective.

Sadly, a few of our Participants have passed away. Those who have gotten older have reached an age where other facilities are better equipped to care for their needs. At the same time, however, many younger Participants have joined us. Some live at home with their families and engage in various work opportunities and other activities on campus. And, of course, the others continue to fulfill their expectations of personally gratifying lives. As a result, we now have a variety of Participants enjoying a host of available options from which they may choose. As we have indicated in the past, the State of Illinois does not now and never has adequately met its obligation to support people with developmental abilities beyond basic life necessities. Our goal, however, continues to ensure that our Participants maintain the ability to learn, to grow and to create lives that are interesting and fulfilling through our numerous "quality of life" programs, most of which need not depend upon government funding.
With our 60th Anniversary now on the horizon there remains yet another opportunity for our Participants to continue to learn and experience all there is to offer. As it has been and continues to be, each individual maintains their own level of personal fulfillment, and it is our responsibility to assure the value of each. As we all hope for, a life well lived is one that we get to spend in our own way. Our job is to provide the men and women we serve with the tools they need on their journey to create and maintain lifestyles that are theirs alone. Without your support, we would not be able to offer those important options that make their lives unique. Lambs Farm Programs With 60 years of service to people with developmental disabilities, the vision of our Co-Founders, Bob Terese and Corinne Owen, lives on and serves as the foundation for the future of Lambs Farm. An innovation from its inception, Lambs Farm has grown from a small pet shop in Chicago to a 72-acre campus where opportunity flourishes for nearly 250 men and women. Lambs Farm helps to create these opportunities by offering a growing number of options for Participants through a full range of employment, residential, wellness and life skills programs.
Employment and Day Program Services The Lambs Farm campus businesses serve as vocational training sites for Participants, and teach valuable work skills. Many Participants are employed in community businesses. Individual, integrated job placements are facilitated by the Lambs Farm Employment Specialist who works directly with Participants to be successful in their chosen jobs. Using a team approach, Supported Employment Programs meet the staffing needs of local businesses by providing an enclave of two-to-eight workers along with a Lambs Farm Job Coach. Participants at Lambs Industries, located near the Lambs Farm campus, undertake subcontract jobs such as packaging and assembly. When it is time to retire, Lambs Farm offers the Enrichment Center, which provides a variety of activities designed to help Participants have enjoyable and productive retirement years. Although these programs closed for safety reasons for several months during the pandemic, all have reopened and are operating at close to full capacity, allowing Participants the opportunity to be involved in a variety of work and leisure activities outside of their homes.
With all of the uncertainty over the last year, life at Lambs Farm was never boring. The men and women of Lambs Farm experimented with new crafts, hosted spirit week and sang their hearts out at family room karaoke. If you look closely, you can also find kindness rocks with inspirational messages scattered throughout the Farm and positive affirmations placed on front doors. Programs looked a little different, but Participants uncovered hidden talents they will carry with them forever.

Home Based Services Program Overview Home Based Support Self Direction Assistance offers individuals with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to continue to live with their family or to live semiindependently, with provided supports. Self-Direction Assistants assist the individual, or the individual’s family or representative, to arrange for, direct and manage services such as recruiting Personal Support Workers, managing budgets, completing required paperwork, applying for requested services, providing training and assisting with employment and educational supports.
Residential Options Lambs Farm offers residential options both on and off campus. Participants living in the campus group homes learn community and daily living skills in a supportive environment. The W. Clement and Jessie V. Stone Apartment Building features individual apartment units for Participants who have already acquired necessary daily living skills and require minimal staff support. The Green-Field intermediate
care facility is home for Participants who require more staff assistance. Staff are available 24 hours a day to provide an increased level of care. Participants may also choose to live in a nearby community. These homes receive intermittent staff support.
Wellness, Recreation and Life Skills The Wellness Center provides Participants a variety of options to practice healthy behaviors, offers a holistic approach to promoting healthy choices, and fosters a wellness culture. The focus is on overall health, promoted through physical activities such as our Healthy Lambs exercise program and ten Special Olympics sports, as well as educating and encouraging our Participants to incorporate wellness into all aspects of their lives. The Founders Building, located on the Lambs Farm campus, holds a regulation-sized gym and physical fitness center. Social activities include special-interest clubs, dances and many activities in local communities. The Quest program provides opportunities for Participants to pursue their personal goals with classes available on a wide variety of topics, ranging from social and daily living skills to travel, history, sports and computers. Quest also offers many classes that help educate Participants on wellness related topics. Classes take place on campus and in the community. The Fine Arts program offers classes in the visual and performing arts. On their days off of work Participants can also take part in Venture, a leisure skills program. All these programs, which are very valuable parts of the lives of Lambs Farm Participants, had to close during the pandemic. Most of the staff who work in these areas helped staff the residences. Some of the Quest and Wellness staff developed a virtual Quest program, where they offered fun classes, activities and exercise options every weekday to Participants in their homes, whether in a Lambs Farm house or with their family, via the internet. At the time of this writing, the Wellness, Recreation and Life Enrichment programs are not yet operating at full capacity but are providing valuable opportunities to exercise, socialize and engage with others in healthy ways. Lambs Farm Programs (continued) Community Involvement The men and women of Lambs Farm are integral members of the communities surrounding the campus. Many volunteer at local churches, long-term care facilities and other local organizations. Others find camaraderie through membership in community groups. Participants may also choose to join group outings to sporting events, musicals, dinners and more or use scheduled transportation to visit area stores, libraries, theaters or restaurants. Whether participating in local events and activities,
visiting area attractions, relaxing in the parks or shopping, our Participants fully enjoy all of the amenities of their local community.

They found new forms of joyful movement in activities such as walking with a housemate, going for a bike ride, running around the track, playing yard games, practicing yoga and even cleaning their houses. Others have taken an interest in whipping up fresh meals in the kitchen and learning about how the food we eat aids in keeping us strong, healthy and full of energy. As recreational activities resume, the men and women of Lambs Farm will be able to use their new knowledge to shine in Special Olympic sports and continue on their wellness journeys.

Residential Program 124 Beds in Community Living Facilities There are nine group homes with 12 Participants each for those who require training and support to live semi-independently. The W. Clement and Jessie V. Stone Apartment Building is home to 16 Participants who need minimal staff support.
33 Beds in Community Residences (Community Integrated Living Arrangements) There are seven homes in neighboring communities for residents who have acquired skills in independent living. Lambs Farm also provides an individualized support program for those who choose to live on their own or with a roommate in our nearby communities.
16 Beds in Green-Field Residence (Intermediate Care Facility for the Developmentally Disabled) This residence provides a structured training and support program, predominately for retirement-age Participants. 6

When we were able to bring back Bunny Brunch, a long-standing family tradition, staff put together a detailed plan to keep everyone safe. Staggered seating times, plated meals and a protective shield for the Easter Bunny helped everyone feel comfortable and continue to make special memories.

For the safety of our residents, guests and staff, our traditional 5K was transformed into a virtual 60K challenge, allowing people from across the country to participate and track their progress without being here at the Farm. Staff also utilized an online platform to convert our annual in-person gala to a fully virtual event, complete with a paddle raiser, auction and program video starring the men and women of Lambs Farm.

Life is slowly transitioning back to a new normal for the men and women of Lambs Farm. They recently returned to their jobs with much enthusiasm and excitement to take on new tasks. Participant bakers learned the impressive skill of cookie decorating and were instrumental in keeping up with the many orders of our best-selling cookies. The staff of the Magnolia Cafe & Bakery brainstormed new outdoor seating options and activities to give our guests a unique and safe dining experience while also providing the Participants with fun, new job responsibilities. Those who work in the community reunited with their co-workers with a big smile on their face. After a long leave from the world of work, the men and women of Lambs Farm are looking at their vocations through a new lens and setting new goals every day.

Harvesting the Spirit, Virtual for the Farm November 7, 2020 Responding to the COVD-19 pandemic, Lambs Farm transformed our annual event—traditionally a festive evening of good food and good cheer in a beautiful downtown Chicago venue—into our first virtual gala. The event program featured a video highlighting our mission, Participants, families, and volunteers. Registration was free and gave our supporters access to an array of silent auction items and experiences. Through sponsorships, donations, auction bids, and raffle ticket sales, Harvesting the Spirit, Virtual for the Farm raised over $126,000. Board of Directors and Executive Staff Lambs Farm wishes to thank our Board of Directors and staff for their dedication to the fulfillment of our mission.
Board of Directors Bunny Brunch April 2 & 3, 2021 Staff put together a detailed plan to bring back Bunny Brunch, a special family tradition. In an effort to keep everyone safe and comfortable, the Magnolia Café & Bakery staggered seating times and served guests a plated meal of their choice. After brunch, families headed to the Visitors Center to get a goodie bag, pick out a gift and meet the Easter Bunny, who posed behind a protective shield.
9th Annual Lambs Farm Virtual Champion Car Show June 6, 2021 Lambs Farm’s parking lot was filled with all kinds of makes, models and trucks, excited guests, live music, raffles and prizes. Those who had a car from the 60s received a special treat for our 60th anniversary. Car enthusiasts could also participate virtually by submitting a photo of their ride. On the day of the event, we posted the entries on social media and Facebook users voted for their favorite.
Potting Party at Lambs Farm May 8 & May 16, 2021 Guests visited our Greenhouse to create beautiful containers with the help of Master Gardeners from the University of Illinois Extension. They were able to choose from our wide range of sun and shade annuals and Proven Winners.
60K Anniversary Virtual 60K Challenge June 1-30, 2021 Individuals and families were challenged to run, walk or bike 60 kilometers in the month of June in honor of our 60th anniversary. They submitted their progress and earned badges while supporting the men and women of Lambs Farm.
