Building a lasting legacy As CEO of the Wakatipu Community Foundation(WCF), I’m thrilled to invite you to join us in a season of reflection and celebration. September marks Wills Month, a time to consider how each of us can leave a lasting impact on the future of our beautiful Wakatipu. Philanthropy isn’t just for the wealthy - every gift, no matter the size, contributes to the legacy we leave behind, ensuring that the causes we care about continue to thrive. At WCF, our mission is to grow philanthropy. We believe everyone can make a difference, and through thoughtful giving, you can leave a meaningful imprint on the community you love. Whether it’s preserving our stunning landscapes or enriching the lives of our residents, we work alongside you to ensure your contributions support the areas you care about most. The sense of awe we all feel for this beautiful place often drives our desire to give back. The majestic mountains, gorgeous lakes, and beautiful valleys instil a deep appreciation for the natural beauty that surrounds us. This awe compels us to think beyond ourselves, considering how we can preserve this stunning environment and ensure our community continues to flourish. If you’re inspired to make a lasting impact, I encourage you to visit one of our partner law firms this September to make or update your will and consider leaving a gift in your will. By doing so, you’re helping to preserve what makes this place so special, ensuring that the Wakatipu we cherish remains vibrant for generations to come. This shared sense of responsibility will be at the heart of our Spirit of the Wakatipu Gala on 19 October. The event’s theme, ‘Dream Big’, encapsulates our collective aspirations for a brighter, more sustainable future. The Gala will honour individuals and organisations that embody the spirit of generosity, commitment, and vision that defines our region. These awards are a chance to recognise those who have gone above and beyond to nurture both the people and the land that make our community special. We are incredibly grateful to our main sponsor, Gibbston Valley, and our other event and award sponsors to make this evening possible. Nominations for the awards close on 31 August, so if you know someone or an organisation whose philanthropy deserves to be celebrated, I encourage you to submit a nomination today.

Winter Pride is underway in Queenstown Lakes! ‘Oblivion Westwood presents The Lavender Lounge’, at Memorial Centre on Saturday night, was one of the highlights of opening weekend. Read more about the 11-day festival on p4.
