FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL Dear Parent, There are few parental decisions as consequential as choosing a school. By the time a child is 18 years old, 17,000 hours of the child’s life will be spent at school. Who will share these hours with your student? What will be their priorities, values, and goals for your child? What will they model for your sons and daughters? A wise educational philosopher declared years ago that “our students will practice what we practice and preach what we preach.” Teachers and coaches modeling the life of a disciple of Jesus will be as formative in the life of your student as the content of our lessons in Bible, History, Mathematics, Science and English. We believe that LCS is most effective when working with families who share the spiritual and academic goals of the school. We are a covenant model Christian school. As such, LCS partners with Christian parents in the education and training of their children. Fundamentally, this partnership requires that at least one parent be a professing believer in Jesus Christ as his or her Savior and Lord and a member of a local church. The theology, the set of beliefs undergirding this covenant partnership, informs all aspects of school life, including student admission and retention policies. We expect every student and family to exhibit a cooperative spirit by adhering to the policies and procedures outlined in the Family Handbook. We consider each applicant's academic record to ensure that the student is sufficiently prepared for the instructional program at LCS, and we take into consideration each applicant's behavioral record. Finally, students must meet age and maturity standards of the school as they prepare to enter K4, K5 and first grade.

ACADEMICS

Early Childhood The Early Childhood program at LCS is developmentally appropriate, academically sound and, most importantly, spiritually attuned to the needs of the young children on our campus. Even at this youngest level, the faculty teaches each subject and activity in the light of God’s Word.

Preschool Program: Full Time Children who meet age requirements and are developmentally ready may begin during the school year if space allows. Students in our K4 program may spend an additional year in K4 or K4T. To move up to K5, a child must be five years old before September 1 and ready for our kindergarten program.

Preschool Curriculum Age-appropriate curriculum that provides developmentally-suitable educational activities and lessons fostering cognitive, social, spiritual and physical growth. Structured playtime that encourages children to learn through activities such as art, music and storytelling. Elementary (Grades K5-5) Lower School Academics For students in grades K5-5, the curriculum includes: UFLI Phonics in K5-2nd grade, and systematic phonics program Daily Bible instruction; Summit Curriculum Biblical truth integrated through instruction Small group instruction in reading and math Reading and writing instruction integrated across the curriculum Math curriculum (Florida’s B.E.S.T. Elementary Specials and Extracurricular Activities Students in the elementary grades benefit from daily physical activity through recess and physical education. They also benefit from a number of extracurricular classes and activities including chapel, music, art, band, piano lessons, choir, flag football, Elementary Olympics, chess club, sports camps, performing arts (plays/musical), STREAM, robotics, 4-H, Fishing Club and more. All grade levels have field trips throughout the year.

RISE Institute (Grades 6-12) Research, Innovation, STEM, Entrepreneurship The RISE Institute is designed for “curious” students who benefit from challenging, independent, projectbased work. Middle and high school students take electives that may include Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Robotics, Culinary Arts and Law. Teens identify real-world problems to solve and meaningful questions to answer. Unlike traditional programs for gifted and talented students, RISE focuses on “I Will” rather than just “IQ”. High school students must demonstrate maturity, intellectual curiosity, drive, and initiative to be successful in RISE programs which require an application and interview. Our student entrepreneurs create businesses and run an entrepreneurship incubator store and coffee shop on campus, where they can showcase their products and services and gain valuable experience in running a business. The LCS Mock Trial Team participates in regional, state, national, and international mock trial competitions throughout the year. Middle School (Grades 6-8) Middle School Academics More than just an in-between stage, middle school is a pivotal time when students learn to build meaningful friendships, develop grit when faced with adversity, and discover the unique gifts our Father in heaven has given each child for service and worship in His kingdom. Middle School years matter. It’s when students seek independence, grow in maturity, and take on greater responsibility. Our rigorous curriculum, including English, math, science, social studies, and Bible, builds each year to prepare students for high school. Alongside traditional academic content, middle school programs intentionally incorporate experiences that foster both character and leadership. Every student becomes part of a House through advisory, fostering community and belonging while focusing on study skills, digital citizenship, interest-based clubs, and friendly competitions. Beginning in sixth grade, students will explore a variety of courses. Seventh and eighth grade students can choose creative and hands-on electives such as fine arts, robotics, Entrepreneurship, Spanish, agriculture, video, leadership, and performing arts. Students may participate in a variety of sports, piano, vocal and instrumental music program, and middle school clubs after school. Our offerings allow students the freedom to discover and develop their interests and talents while nurturing vital skills such as collaboration, responsibility, and executive functioning skills. Middle school serves as an important experience that prepares students, not only academically, but also holistically, equipping them for the next steps in their education, faith, and personal growth.

High School (Grades 9-12) High School Academics Our academic program is designed to challenge students of varying needs and abilities. It is designed to prepare them for college, career, and God's sovereign calling. Each of our courses start with state and national standards, however, as an independent Christian school, our teachers have the opportunity to shape the curriculum to foster a biblical worldview in each student. From those standards and our biblical worldview integration, faculty work backward to design units that develop enduring understandings and help students answer essential questions. Ultimately, students are prepared to perform tasks and convey knowledge that meet curricular transfer goals. The process prepares students to learn, lead, serve, and worship for a lifetime in their communities and the world with Biblical purpose.

Community Life Lakeland Christian School’s athletic program offers opportunities for participation in a wide range of sports for both boys and girls. A complete vocal and instrumental music program is also provided. A unique piano program offers private lessons for students in second through twelfth grade. Other extracurricular activities offer leadership opportunities through The National Honor Society, Law, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, school publications, drama, Mock Trial Team, Robotics, and on-campus clubs. The high school students have the opportunity to bond as a class at overnight retreats and our seniors culminate their high school experience with a six-day class trip right before commencement.

Advanced Placement & Dual Enrollment LCS offers a total of 26 honors courses, 16 Advanced Placement and 16 dual enrollment courses through Cedarville University and Southeastern University. Students can earn up to 27 college credits through dual enrollment. During the 2024-2025 school year, a total of 128 students took 231 AP exams. Eighty-five percent of the students scored a "3" or higher.

Special Programs (Grades 1-12) Lakeland Christian School recognizes that students have various academic needs and learn at different paces. Mild to moderate learning disabilities or attention challenges can make the school experience discouraging for some students, but our Special Programs (SP) Department offers meaningful support. We provide targeted services for students in grades 1–12 who are fully integrated into the school’s rigorous academic program. These specialized services are provided for a fee in addition to tuition.

Lower School There are multiple levels of ESE support for students in elementary school that range from consultative services to daily academic support. Certified ESE teachers work with students in first through fifth grade with instruction being offered in the areas of math and reading.

Upper School Students in grades six through twelve receive specialized tiers of support within a mainstream instructional model. Guided by each learner’s identified needs, the SP team offers individualized instruction and targeted remediation to strengthen skills and promote academic growth. Upper School SP faculty hold specialized degrees, allowing them to provide varied instructional strategies, foster supportive learning environments, and maintain alignment with general education classroom expectations.

SPIRITUAL LIFE & DISCIPLESHIP

Lower School Spiritual Development At LCS, spiritual growth is at the heart of our mission. Our Bible curriculum, “Building on the Rock,” instills a biblical worldview focused on salvation, the Bible, Jesus, and God. Lessons include age-appropriate instruction, Scripture memorization, and activities that help students apply biblical truths, equipping them to live out their faith and share it with others. Worship and discipleship are integral to our community. Weekly chapel services feature worship led by second and fifth graders, along with messages from local pastors, LCS staff, and students. Special services for Veterans Day, Christmas, and Easter highlight student talents and foster a vibrant spiritual experience. Our students’ faith is further nurtured during grade-level praise and worship times and through and servanthearted initiatives, like fourth-grade Candy Cane sale supporting Parker Street Ministries and the Operation Christmas Child shoebox drive by Samaritan’s Purse. Teachers also participate in weekly Bible studies and devotions, praying for students and sending prayer cards as reminders of God’s love. By fostering a Christ-centered community, LCS equips students and staff to glorify God, grow in faith, and lead with purpose and servant hearts.

Upper School spiritual development AAt LCS spiritual life is the foundation of everything we do. Above all else, we long to see students grow to love God and love people, so we aim to weave spiritual practices and opportunities for growth into the rhythms of school life. Each week, our students and faculty come together in chapel for worship, prayer, and an inspiring message, fostering a vibrant sense of faith and community. Discipleship is cultivated through meaningful mentoring relationships between faculty and students, encouraging students to live our their faith with intention and purpose. Grade-level Bible studies provide a deeper dive into God’s word, helping students connect Scripture to their daily lives while fostering spiritually edifying friendships. In Bible classes, students engage with Scripture in ways that strengthen their faith and deepen their relationship with God. Spiritual development is also a key part of our grade-level trips and retreats and our middle school advisory and house programs. This holistic approach to spiritual formation equips our students to grow in faith, build Christ-like character, and prepare to lead as servant-hearted individuals in the world.

Performing Arts Soli Deo Gloria! Glory to God alone! This simple phrase is the foundational mission of the LCS Fine Arts Department. Our goal is to inspire and equip students with the skills, passion, and discernment to continue as life-long musicians and artists. Our hope is that their primary focus will be to bring glory to God through the use of their gifts and talents.

Visual Arts The visual arts testify to the glory of God without words—to each other and to the lost world; therefore, every act of creation has the potential to be an act of worship and a voice of witness. In the LCS Visual Arts Department, we embrace our creative nature and so endeavor to equip students with the foundational skills necessary to communicate ideas visually and to the glory of the Creator.

Lower School In Elementary Art, we explore the elements of art, famous artists from history and their techniques, and how we can use those techniques to awaken the God given creativity inside each one of us. We practice, plan, and experiment, and sometimes even fail. We learn to respect and enjoy the process, as this is often more important than a “final product.” All of these things are part of the creative process and help us realize that there are no shortcuts in art much like there are no shortcuts in life.

ATHLETICS

Athletics Building Character and Faith Through Athletics Athletics play a vital role in the Lakeland Christian School experience, offering more than just physical skillbuilding. Team sports provide a powerful platform to shape and refine character, teaching students invaluable lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and resilience. Under the guidance of our dedicated Christian coaches, athletics become a tool for developing not only athletic ability but also the qualities that define strong, faithful individuals—grit, integrity, and the ability to stand firm in their faith. We see athletics as a means to cultivate the whole person for the service and glory of Jesus Christ, not as an end in themselves. Our athletes are taught to recognize their talents as gifts from their Creator, entrusted to them to develop and use in gratitude and service to God.

Athletic Participation Requirements Students who wish to participate in athletics at LCS must show themselves to be competent in the classroom. They must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above on a 4.0 unweighted scale. In some cases more students desire to participate than can be accommodated, thus cuts are often required. Coaches make selections for teams on the basis of ability and attitude.

Prospective Students or Parents Contacting LCS Coaches The success of LCS athletic programs and the excellent environment provided for our student athletes by our coaches make athletic participation at LCS attractive to families. The eligibility rules of the Florida High School Athletic Association related to transfer students have become increasingly detailed and prescriptive. FHSAA Policy 37.1.3 limits the contact between prospective students and parents with school coaches. Any such contact can only take place once a student is registered, been accepted, and no longer attends the previous school. If prospective parents or students have specific questions related to athletic participation, they are to contact the Director of Enrollment, the Athletic Director, the High School Principal or the Head of School.

FHSAA Membership LCS is a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and is governed by the standards of the FHSAA regarding athletic eligibility and general administration of the athletic program. Athletic schedules include competition with both public and nonpublic schools.

Need-Based Financial Aid LCS is pleased to offer need-based financial aid to qualified families. New families in need of assistance can apply for financial aid as a part of submitting an application for admission to the school. Returning families can access the application via their portal. We utilize a third-party company - SSS - to assist in determining financial aid eligibility. Approximately 20% of our students are recipients of a need-based financial aid award. Financial aid awards are granted on a yearly basis and are based on continued demonstrated need. Financial aid is determined using a projected out of pocket tuition for the upcoming school year (tuition less any discounts and/or state scholarships) Many of our financial aid awards cover up to 50% of the out-of-pocket tuition. We do not offer athletic, academic or fine arts scholarships.

Supplemental scholarship programs In addition to the need-based financial aid program, LCS accepts scholarships through the State of Florida. These scholarships can be coupled with LCS Financial Aid and can be used to offset the cost of tuition and fees. We accept awards through Step Up for Students. Financial aid process LCS Financial Aid can be combined with any of the state scholarship awards mentioned above. Families may apply for financial assistance to LCS after beginning the admission application process. To be considered for financial aid, the application must be completed before finalizing the admissions process. This includes submitting the financial aid questionnaire and uploading prior year tax documents. New families will receive their financial aid award notification along with their admission acceptance decision.

Your child’s application is considered complete and ready to process when you have uploaded the following items:

The Admissions Office must receive these documents before testing or interviews will be scheduled. The application process continues as outlined below: LCS Financial Aid: If financial aid is required to attend, a completed application for aid must be submitted with documentation prior to testing and interviews being schedule. Testing: All K4 through 12th grade students will be screened for placement. There are no additional fees for testing. Interview: After you have completed the online application checklist and have received preliminarily approval, you will be contacted by the Admissions team to schedule a parent interview with the Principal. You will be asked to share about your personal faith and current level of involvement in your church. In grades six through twelve, a student interview is also required. The Principal will briefly explain the purpose of Christian education, provide an overview of our program and give you time to ask whatever questions you may have concerning the school. Admissions Committee: After completion of all of the above, your application will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. If your child meets the admissions requirements but there are no spaces currently available in that grade, you will be given an opportunity to keep your application active in the waiting pool. Please refer to the complete wait pool policy on our website. Enrollment: Upon your child’s acceptance, you will receive an email from the Admissions Office that will explain the final steps necessary to complete the enrollment process. These steps include completing the online enrollment contract, paying the enrollment fee and attending (one parent) a mandatory parent orientation group meeting with the Head of School which is offered several times.
