Croatia is a popular country for visitors on the Adriatic Coast. This Balkan country offers gorgeous scenery along the coast and in interior National Parks, picturesque villages and historic cities, Roman ruins and UNESCO sites. Landmarks include Franciscan monastery of the “Order of Friars Minors”, Sponza Palace, and the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary with a treasury containing the originals by Tiziano and Rafaelo. HVAR ISLAND – In Stari Grad visit the Old Town, the former Greek colony of Pharos which was the location of the first settlement on the island. Visit Hvar Old Town with the largest square in Dalmatia, ringed by grand palaces and beautiful historic buildings. ISLAND GROUPS – Croatia’s Dalmatian coast is full of island groups that invite boating, swimming, and exploring, such as the Pakleni Islands and Elaphite Islands. TROGIR & SPLIT – The historic towns of Trogir and Split are both on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Set on a small island, Trogir is a tiny, charming town surrounded by impressive fortress walls. Walk through the fortified town seeing the St. Lawrence Cathedral and the Old City Hall. Split on the mainland coast is a 1700-year-old town, that enticed the Roman Emperor Diocletian to build a palace for his retirement. The town has grown well beyond the palace walls and has a Venetian atmosphere and waterfront promenade. PLITVICE LAKES – Plitvice Lakes National Park is considered the most beautiful park in Croatia, it is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. Tour this magnificent park of 16 lakes, waterfalls, forests, and animal life. ZAGREB – In the interior historic Zagreb is the capital of Croatia. The Upper Town is the historical center with St. Mark’s Church topped with a multicolored roof. The noon hour is marked with the firing of a cannon at the top of fortified Lotrscak Tower to commemorate a legendary event thought to have saved the city from attackers. TRAKOSCAN CASTLE –Outside Zagreb in a dreamlike wooded setting Trakoscan Castle stands, dating back to 1334. Walk through the halls furnished with many pieces from a world gone by.
