Utility Scam Alert Palmetto Electric is alerting consumers to an apparent scam involving individuals calling members, posing as a representative of Palmetto Electric. The scam artists state immediate payment is needed to avoid disconnection of electric service. Consumers are reporting that they are being asked to purchase a “green dot MoneyPak� to pay the requested amount. A number of consumers have reported that the suspicious calls show up on the caller ID as 870-210-8600. Palmetto Electric warns that any calls from this number, or other suspicious numbers, should be reported to local law enforcement. Credit card numbers and personal information should never be given to suspicious callers. If a member receives a suspicious call, mailing, email or other type of unusual contact or offer from a person or company claiming to be from or working on behalf of Palmetto Electric, the member should end the call immediately and contact local law enforcement. Consumers should also call Palmetto Electric at 843-681-0061 to report the incident. Customer service representatives can help confirm a billing payment and balance due on a member’s account. If a member wishes to communicate to a customer service representative in Spanish they can ask to speak to Belen Almazan or Livier Amador. ###
