LAIA GENIS VIADER
Fashion Design Portfolio

I am a highly creative designer with a deep passion for patternmaking, textiles, and craftsmanship. I pay close attention to detail and enjoy exploring fabric manipulations, embroidery, and innovative construction techniques.
This portfolio showcases a selection of projects I feel most connected to, reflecting my interests, hands-on approach, and dedication to creating garments that combine technical precision, pattern development, and artistic expression.
Through these projects, I aim to communicate my love for textile research, material experimentation, and the process of making, highlighting how patternmaking and craftsmanship come together to shape each piece.

Tulle flower study
This work explores embroidery through a combination of Lunéville hook techniques used in haute couture and traditional hand embroidery with silk threads. Developed through specialised training in Lyon and Barcelona, the process focuses on creating three-dimensional surfaces by experimenting with texture, shape, and material combinations. The aim is to push embroidery beyond decoration into a more structural and tactile form.

MATERIAL BOOK RESEARCH
This fabric book is a handcrafted exploration of material experimentation and research. Throughout the project, I experimented with textures and surfaces, translating ideas into tactile forms. The book was entirely handcrafted, from the initial fabric manipulations to the final assembly. It documents my full research process, showing the evolution of material ideas through sketches, images, and samples. Serving as both a visual and tactile archive, it reflects the depth of experimentation and the development of my creative approach.

FABRIC MANIPULATION
This accessory combines three different types of leather, selected for their contrasting textures and structural qualities. The materials are connected through metal eyelets, with a ribbon threaded through to bind the elements together, creating both tension and flexibility. Technical drawings and construction details were developed digitally using Adobe Illustrator to ensure precision in proportion and placement.

This research book is entirely handcrafted, reflecting the artisanal spirit behind the Sarde collection that I developed during my final year as a fashion student. Each page is made using recycled cotton paper and carefully stitched together by hand. The pages are manually sewn to one another, creating a tactile and organic structure that echoes the importance of craftsmanship throughout the project. This handmade process gives the book a unique character, turning it into a physical extension of the collection and its creative journey.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT SKETCHES
These hand-drawn sketches explore the early stages of the Sarde collection, focusing on silhouette, proportion, and material interaction. Created in pencil, they capture an intuitive and fluid approach to design, allowing ideas to evolve through observation and experimentation.

TECHNICAL DRAWINGS

These prototypes were developed this year as part of my Sarde Collection, with a strong focus on pattern cutting to define structure, proportion, and silhouette. The patterns were designed to create exaggerated volume and bold forms, giving presence and movement to the garments despite the lightness of the fabric.
All pieces are made in chiffon, a delicate and fluid material that contrasts with the scale of the forms. French seams were used throughout for clean internal finishes and precise construction, while manual gathering allowed careful control of fullness, shaping the fabric into structured yet airy forms.
These prototypes explore the translation of pattern into three-dimensional form, balancing technical precision with sculptural silhouette.

ARTISTIC & PRODUCT RENDERS
Using CLO 3D, I created artistic renders to explore garments, simulating fabrics with realistic maps and textures. I experimented with sequins and custom surface effects to develop unique textile finishes, translating material ideas into digital prototypes. The page combines these renders with the process of experimentation, showing how fabric, texture, and surface were explored and developed digitally.
