A Snow White Christmas

Page 1

MANAGING DIRECTOR

ADELE ADKINS

Welcome to Laguna Playhouse,

The holidays at Laguna Playhouse are a time of joy, laughter, and tradition. For many families, our annual Christmas Panto has become a beloved part of their seasonal celebrations—a chance to gather, share in the magic of theatre, and create memories that last a lifetime.

This year, we are thrilled to present A Snow White Christmas, continuing a partnership that has brought so much delight to our stage. For ten years, we’ve collaborated with the talented Lythgoe family, whose creativity and passion have kept the Panto tradition alive and thriving here at the Playhouse. Their dedication to this unique form of theatre—a blend of music, comedy, and interactive fun—has made these productions a cornerstone of our holiday programming.

If you’re new to Panto, you’re in for a treat! A Panto—short for pantomime—is an all-ages comedy-musical-variety show, usually performed around the holidays. It combines fairytale stories with pop music, parody lyrics, and plenty of audience participation. It’s a joyful, interactive experience unlike anything else on stage.

This is my very first Panto at the Playhouse, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with my husband and son. Experiencing this tradition together—and with all of you—makes this season especially meaningful for me.

Warmest wishes for a wonderful holiday season,

What is Panto?

British Pantomime, or “Panto,” is a unique and beloved form of theatrical entertainment that dates back centuries, combining elements of comedy, fairy tales, and interactive performance. Originating in the 16th and 17th centuries, Panto evolved from Italian commedia dell’arte, a comedic form that involved stock characters, slapstick humor, and improvisation. By the 19th century, Panto had further developed its own unique structure and character archetypes, becoming an essential part of British holiday festivities, especially around Christmas.

Over the years, Panto has become a holiday staple in the UK, especially during the Christmas season. Some British actors consider Panto performances a cherished career opportunity, bringing fresh audiences to the theater and keeping the tradition alive. Unlike typical theater, which often keeps audiences as passive observers, Panto is highly interactive. Traditional theater also usually aims for a more realistic or immersive experience, whereas Panto is unabashedly fantastical, with actors openly playing to the crowd.

At Laguna Playhouse, a holiday Panto has become a huge part of our own holiday tradition as well. A Snow White Christmas is the tenth Lythgoe holiday Panto to be featured on this stage, and the tradition has become a much awaited event for our patrons. Families return year after year to celebrate the holiday season with us, and to experience the incredible magic of a holiday Panto.

We hope after seeing the show today, you will be inspired to make it a tradition for your family, too.

Happy Holidays!

WHO’S WHO

NICK DELZOMPO (Prince) discovered his love for live performance when he auditioned for his high school’s production of Urinetown in 2017. Since playing the lead role of Bobby Strong in that production, he has performed in numerous plays and musicals, most notably playing Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd, Melchior Gabor in Spring Awakening, and Prince Charming/Lucinda in Into the Woods during his time at UCLA. Since graduating from UCLA in 2023, Nick has appeared in multiple national commercials, film projects, and amassed over 20 million views across social media platforms through viral comedy sketches. He is honored to be a part of A Snow White Christmas, his debut production at The Laguna Playhouse!

MARCELLE LEBLANC (Snow White) got her start at the age of 10 playing a young Judy Garland for an aspiring Broadway Musical, Chasing Rainbows. Landing the title role of Annie at 11 years in Virginia Samford’s production led to roles in Gypsy, The Music Man, and more. Transitioning into film and television happened quickly with appearances on hit shows like “Stranger Things”, “Cobra Kai”, “Fear Street Part 2”, “Criminal Minds”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “9-1-1 Lonestar”, “House of Payne” and more. Marcelle also starred in The CW/Warner Brothers reboot of the iconic franchise “The Walton’s” as Mary Ellen Walton, and will lead the upcoming new movie musical “Saturday” as Charli Banks. She also can be seen in current movies “Bad Man” and “Regretting You”. She is thrilled to be joining the cast of Snow White and thanks her family for their never-ending love and support. A special thanks also to my vocal coach Amy Murphy, my first acting coach Meg Deusner, and my very first local theatre director Roy Hudson. “One community director single handedly changed the course of my life by casting me in my first play”. So much so, that in 2011 she founded I AM Entertainment to support other artists and entrepreneurs to do the same. Authenticity is the gift that she carries for herself and encourages others to embrace. You will see that it permeates every aspect of her work on and off stage. Auditioning for the 2003 series of “American Idol” was a life-changing decision for Kimberley Locke. She successfully passed the audition and became a firm fan favorite, eventually placing second. Kimberley signed to Curb Records immediately after her “American Idol” journey, where she became a successful recording artist. She released three full-length albums, has eight Top 20 Adult Contemporary singles, four #1 Dance hits (Including one international dance hit “Feel the Love”) and was coined the Queen of Christmas by Billboard Magazine with two Christmas albums with three #1 holiday hits. BONNIE LYTHGOE (Director) My heart has always been in musical theatre, especially Panto, though I have worked across many areas of the profession. My first film was a six-month contract on “To Sir With Love” starring Sidney Poitier and me, which led to a three-year contract with the BBC as a presenter on children’s TV. In the 80’s I flew to New Zealand to assist the choreographer on a TV production starring Gene Kelly and the New Zealand Ballet. On returning, I staged the Children’s Royal Variety and the Royal Variety Charity Show, followed by directing live charity productions nationwide, including in the West End for members of the Royal Family. My love of dance and acting led to choreographing and directing musical theatre, including Sondheim, Grease, Half a Sixpence, West Side Story, and many beloved Pantomimes. In the 90’s I worked for Simon Fuller searching for young talent for “S Club Juniors,” then flew to the U.S. to search for “Junior American Idol” performers and later became an audition producer for “American Idol”. I served as a judge for three series of “So You Think You Can Dance” USA and later in Australia. My work there expanded from presenting on morning shows to bringing Panto across the country. I also serve as Patron and Judge for World Dance Cup. I have directed about 50 Pantos worldwide, with actors such as Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, Patrick Duffy, and Lucy Lawless. Today, 2025, I am involved in the development of a new stage production of the 80’s film “Beaches” and continuing my TV and Panto projects in Australia and the USA. I really wish the cast a fantastic time at Laguna Playhouse and if you forget a line it is okay to just improvise because that’s Panto. Finally, a Panto joke. Why did Santa bring his sack with him when starring in Panto? He wanted some stage Presents. That’s it from me your Director.
