ABOUT LEH SAFEGUARDING STATEMENT
All staff working at LEH will have some contact with children and will therefore be in regulated activity. Staff with teaching duties will be responsible for the pupils that they teach and may also have additional specific pastoral or other responsibilities for other pupils they do not teach. In addition, all staff will regularly interact with pupils who may seek assistance or otherwise interact with them whilst moving around LEH.
In all cases, the post holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the pupils is to adhere to and ensure compliance with LEH’s safeguarding policies and procedures at all times. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and LEH is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are “spent” unless they are “protected” under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

The Art Department
Department
Information For Teacher of Art and Design (with Art Textiles)
Our Art Department is a dynamic team of seven: six highly skilled specialist teachers working alongside an experienced technician. The team is defined by its enthusiasm, adaptability, excellent organisation, and a well established culture of sharing practice and supporting one another. Together, they create an inspiring, collaborative environment for students. All members of the department play an active role in the pastoral, academic, and extra curricular life of the school.
The superb architectural space that the department occupies is bright and airy, enjoys northern light, full height windows opening onto broad balconies with expansive views over the school playing fields. There are four well equipped multi use teaching studios. One of these is a purpose-built ceramics room with a separate specialist preparation area and kiln room. There is a large purposebuilt, well-equipped textile room with laser cutter, 3D printer, sublimation printer, heat press and sewing machines. In addition to the large studio spaces, there is a specific exhibition and research area with a suite of Apple Mac computers. These offer students’ ideal facilities for digital image development and contextual research.
The diverse expertise within the department enables students to explore and develop creative ideas across a broad range of media. Skills and techniques are taught through the disciplines of Art, Craft, and Design, as well as Art Textiles, and include drawing, painting, printmaking (such as etching and photo stencil screen printing), three dimensional and relief work, ceramics, photography, textiles, and emerging technologies. Students are encouraged to investigate ideas through imaginative themes, independent research, and the study of artists and designers within the wider context of contemporary and traditional Art, Craft, and Design.
All pupils in Years 7 and 8 study Textiles for half the year, with Food and Nutrition taught in the other half. In Year 9, Art and Textiles become optional subjects, with a focus on developing creative skills and project work in preparation for GCSE and beyond.
In recent years, GCSE Art has attracted over 30 students, with more than 10 choosing Textiles. At A Level, cohorts typically range from 8 to 10 students. Examination results are consistently strong, and many A Level students progress to highly competitive Foundation and Degree courses in Art, Design, and Architecture at leading institutions. A Level provision is enriched by life drawing and painting, alongside specialist teaching in the History of Art.
The department enriches its curriculum through a wide range of activities, including visits to galleries, museums, lectures, and exhibitions, as well as overseas Art and Art History trips. Artist-led workshops for students and staff further enhance creative practice and professional development. The department also plays a key role in curating displays around the school and producing visual materials for internal communications. Students regularly achieve success in local and national art competitions. Additional opportunities include an Art Club for lower school pupils and open studio access for GCSE and Sixth Form students.
The successful applicant will teach Art & Design, including creative and experimental Art Textiles, across all year groups. This will include areas such as surface print, fashion textiles, and constructed textiles. A strong understanding of current and emerging developments within both Art and Textiles is essential. The ideal candidate will bring innovative ideas for projects, schemes of work, and cross disciplinary opportunities, particularly within Textiles, and will demonstrate excellent subject knowledge while inspiring, motivating, and challenging students of all abilities.
Candidates invited to interview will be asked to plan, resource, and deliver a lesson (details will be provided in advance). Applicants should also be prepared to share a digital portfolio of recent work via a shared drive.

General Teaching Job Description
• To plan, prepare and teach lessons as required by the department.
• To set homework and mark written work regularly and ensure that the correct procedures are followed if work is missing, incomplete or late.
