For the past several weeks, I've been on a very important expedition. Not through the jungles of India, but through the hallways, rehearsal rooms, and backstage spaces of La Crosse Community Theatre. You see, I was searching for one of the rarest creatures in the world: the Jungle Penguin.
Unlike the penguins you might expect to find in Antarctica, the Jungle Penguin has a remarkable ability. It disguises itself as other animals. One moment it looks like Baloo the bear. The next, it's King Louie, Bagheera, a monkey, an elephant, or even Mowgli himself. The only way to spot a Jungle Penguin is to look closely for something even more special than feathers: a smile, a newfound confidence, or the pride that comes from stepping into the spotlight.
As I've watched rehearsals, I've been fortunate to witness these transformations firsthand. This year, the experience has been especially meaningful for me because my son is participating as one of our artists. As a parent of a child with autism and ADHD, I've spent years watching him express himself through his artwork. Seeing him step onto a stage for the very first time has been a gift I will never forget. I've watched him grow in confidence, build friendships, and discover new ways to share his creativity with the world.
That is the magic of The Penguin Project.
The Penguin Project creates opportunities for young people with disabilities to explore theatre in a supportive, inclusive environment alongside their peer mentors. While the program is often celebrated for what it does for our artists, I've learned it also changes the lives of everyone involved. It teaches empathy, patience, teamwork, confidence, and joy. It reminds us that every person has talents worth sharing and stories worth telling.
Tonight's performance is proof of what can happen when a community comes together to ensure that everyone has a place to belong.

Easily, we could substitute 'Penguin" for "Wolf" in this passage by mister Kipling. The empathy I see when working with these miraculous children is breathtaking, their growth is inspiring, and the friendships they make are forever! Even on our most challenging days, I come away with hope for our collective future. Our strength truly comes from each other. It's proven to me every year, Art is the Answer.

Sophia is so happy to be a part of the jungle with penguin project this year. This is her first show ever. She would like to say thank you to Katelyn, Adam and Destinee for helping her on stage.
SOPHIA DELONG ( Mowgli Mentor)
Sophia is thrilled to be making her debut in her very first Penguin Project production! She is especially excited to share the stage and support her partner as Mowgli’s mentor. When she isn’t busy in the "jungle," she loves to bake, play outside, and sing her favorite songs from The Greatest Showman. Sophia would like to thank her family for all of their love and support as she takes the stage!
DELILAH GOODMAN ( Shanti Artist)
Delilah is thrilled to welcome you to Penguin Project Production of Jungle Book Kids. She loves telling stories and is hoping that you will enjoy this story that her and the rest of the cast have been working so hard on over the past several weeks. She is also excited to be wearing pink in the show! Delilah would like to thank her family for all the love and support!
KEELEY MURPHY ( Shanti Mentor)
Keeley is so excited to participate in her first Penguin Project Production. Her previous roles include being part of the ensemble in the past summer productions 101 Dalmatians and The Lion King. When she's not performing she enjoys adventure sports such as downhill skiing, logrolling, and mountain biking. She also loves playing the piano, violin
and dancing. This year will be her third time performing in the La Crosse Dance Centre's Nutcracker Production. Her other hobbies include Girl Scouts, art, and playing with her little sister.
Artist) This is Bella’s fourth Penguin Project production (Ugly in Honk, Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, and Evil Stepmother in Big Bad Musical). Bella considers this to be her favorite time of the year because of these productions. She is very thankful to the Penguin Project staff and donors for this opportunity. In her free time, Bella enjoys singing, playing the piano or church organ, and hanging out with her family. Lastly, she would also like to thank her family and friends for all of their support.
Winslow is excited to be back at LCT for another production. She loves to see the community come out and support the Penguin Project as much as she enjoys participating in it. When not on stage, Winslow plays flute in the middle school band, plays volleyball, and participates in ballet at La Crosse Dance Centre. Destinee is excited to be back on stage again this year. Jungle Book is Destinee’s fifth show through Penguin Project. Previous productions include Annie Jr (Grace Farell), Seussical Jr (Mazy), Cinderella (Cinderella), Big Bad Musical(Little Miss Muffet) and now
Jungle Book (Baloo). Destinee also was in the musical Shrek (teen Fiona) at Sparta High School. Destinee loves to sing and has now taken on a new hobby of playing guitar. She would like to thank her family for supporting her through all the productions.
REAGAN NELSON-GALLO ( Baloo
Mentor) Reagan is very excited to do Jungle Book with an amazing cast! Jungle Book Kids is Reagan’s ninth show at LCT. Before this, they played Thalia/ Minotaur in The Lightning Thief this year. When Reagan’s not on the stage, you can find them working in DIY projects and participating in their school’s art and GSA clubs!
CLAIRE COX ( Shere Kahn Artist) Claire feels confident returning to the stage for her second penguin project. Last year, Claire played Sidney Grimm in The Big Bad Musical. She would like to thank Clare for helping her focus and for being kind.
CLARE AMMERMAN-BANN ( Shere
Kahn Mentor) Clare is so excited to be back on the LCT stage with Penguin project. She is in 9th grade at Logan High School. This is her 9th production and 5th with LCT. You may have previously seen her in Witches In Salem as Betty Perish, and Bridget Bishop. She is so excited to be back on stage with the penguins!
GRACE GOODMAN ( Kaa Mentor)
Grace is so happy to be on stage again with another Penguin Project Production. She loves sharing the stage with actors
of such a wide range of abilities and disabilities. This is such a special show, she hopes that you enjoy it! Grace would like to thank her family for their support and helping her to get to rehearsals for her 13th and 14th theatrical productions (even when they overlapped!).
INGRID ZABEL ( Kaa Mentor) Ingrid is a second grader at Emerson Elementary in La Crosse. Last summer, she performed in the LCT summer theatre camp production of 101 Dalmatians. She loves school and enjoys reading, art, math, and music. Outside of school, Ingrid likes playing the piano, singing, swimming, and skiing, as well as spending time doing activities like riding her bike and playing with her younger brother, sister, and dog. Shout out to her family and teachers!
BRAYDEN MCALISTER ( Colonel Hathi Artist) Brayden is excited to take part in his first Penguin Project production. He is currently in 4th grade. When Brayden is not at school or at the theater, he loves spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoys playing board games, watching anime, drawing, playing hide n' seek and playing video games. He also keeps busy attending Boys and Girls Club, attending Aptiv youth services and spending time with his respite provider.
BRILYNN BLASCHKE ( Baby Elephant, King Louie Artist) Brilynn will be hitting the stage for the very first time ever. She is very excited to perform with her new found friends. When Brilynn is not at theatre practice you could find her working out with ADAPT Physical
Therapists, or learning life skills with New Leaf recreation services..She is excited to be moving up to 4th grade at Southern Bluffs Elementary school in LaCrosse next year.
DELL HEGLAND-TARR ( Baby Elephant, King Louie Mentor) Dell is super excited to be in penguin project, the love theater and want to be an actor. Their favorite thing to do outside of theater is dancing, reading, drawing, and apothecary. Their favorite play is Hamilton and their favorite play they've been in is Cinderella.
CORALINE BUFFINGTON ( Baby Elephant, King Louie Mentor) This is my first LCT production and I’m thrilled to be part of this incredible cast and crew! I love theater because it gives me a chance to be creative, confident, and have fun with friends. I’m in 5th grade and enjoy crocheting, singing, playing cello/piano, and spending time with my family and friends. I hope you enjoy this show as much as I’ve enjoyed being part of it!
ADDIE MULLEN ( Wolf, Sassy Monkey Artist) Addie is taking the LCT stage for the second time with Penguin Project. She loves her friends, teachers, and family. Outside of theater, enjoys swimming, hide-and-seek, and Luigi’s Mansion video games.
KINSLEY CRAWFORD ( Wolf, Sassy Monkey Mentor) Kinsley Crawford is in sixth grade, and this is her fourth Penguin Project production and her seventh show overall at LCT. In her free time, she
enjoys skiing, running cross-country, and spending time with friends. Kinsley would like to thank her friends, Henrietta and Raina for their support—and, of course, her dog, just for being alive.
KAEDEN DUTTON ( Wolf, Silly Monkey Artist) Kaeden is nervcited (nervously excited) to try his hand at musical theatre. This is Kaeden’s first time participating in musical theatre. He would like to thank his Auntie Chey for giving him the chance to try theatre. When Kaeden is not at Penguin he is either riding bikes, going swimming or spending time with Grandma. Kaeden thanks his family for their love and support. Kaeden says he hopes you enjoy the show.
ABIGAIL MCALISTER ( Wolf, Silly Monkey Mentor) Abigail is looking forward to her first production with the Penguin Project. She keeps busy with many extra-curricular activities. She attends Boys and Girls Club and volunteers at Aptiv in their youth program. Abigail participates in band, choir, show choir and recently performed in Shrek Jr at her middle school. In her free time, Abby enjoys putting together puzzles, Lego sets, reading, and listening to music.
CHARLIE VOSE ( Wolf, Old Monkey Artist) Charlie is excited to be in his first production at LCT. For extra curriculars, Charlie participates in dance, martial arts, swimming and Cub Scouts. Charlie loves learning and imagining and enjoys reading Warrior Cat books and playing Pokemon.
NOLA KELLY ( Wolf, Old Monkey
Mentor) This is Nola's first penguin project, but she's no stranger to LCT. She was Spotty in 101 Dalmations and part of the ensemble for Lion King and Aristocats. When she's not on stage you can find her dancing at LDC, climbing rocks, or riding her bike. She sends a big squeeze to everyone that makes these performances possible and to her wonderful family and friends.
ADRIANNA BRIGGSON ( Banyon Tree Artist) Adrianna has been involved with LCT for several years. She has participated in the Penguin Project as Mrs. Mayor in Seussical, a mouse in Cinderella, The Evil Cat in Honk, and a Pig in the Big Bad Musical. She says,”I really love theater and it’s so much fun I love hanging out with people who are so fun, kind , and amazing. I am in 8th grade it’s my last year of middle school I’m excited to be going into high school. I love doing art, baking, and of course coffee shops , also riding horses. I am Deaf and I do American Sign Language and it’s so fun doing ASL.
DELLA MEIER ( Banyon Tree Mentor)
Della is so excited to be participating in the Penguin Project for another year and loves the opportunity to work with such talented and amazing actors and crew. She has recently performed in the youth ensemble for LCT Productions of Gypsy and Oliver. She has also enjoyed performing with LCT's Star Academy Productions as Toulouse in The Aristocats Kids and Rafiki in The Lion King Kids. She sends her to love to all her friends both
here and at Camp Adirondack where she will be spending another summer away from her loving yet understanding family.
Artist) I am in 8th grade at Logan Middle School. I like to sing and dance and am involved with Abilities in Motion, Darby's Dance and this is my 4th year with Penquin project. Special thank you to my Mom, Nana and Papa for getting me to rehearsals and all your love and support. I love you!
Mentor) Aliyana has been a mentor in Penguin Project for 4 years now in Honk, Cinderella, The Big Bad Musical, and this year, The Jungle Book! She is a Sophomore in high school and loves music, science, and writing. She is in the La Crosse Girl Choir and River City Revolution Show Choir. She is so excited to be here with us for the Jungle Book and put on a wonderful show!
Artist) Alayna is enjoying her first production on the LCT team. She has participated in the drama club at school in the past, but this is her first time on the big stage! Outside of performing Alayna enjoys being creative, playing with friends, riding her scooter or hover board and playing Minecraft and Roblox.
Romey is in 4th grade and this is her second time doing Penguin Project. She loves theatre, singing, and dancing. Her favorite thing about Penguins is the
awesome community that the Penguins create together. When not at Penguins, Romey loves horseback riding, playing outside, and crafting.
MAZIE KNOBLE ( Jungle Thistle
Mentor) This is Mazie's first Penguin Project show, and her 2nd show at LCT. You may have seen her previously as part of the ensemble in Frozen: The Broadway Musical. Mazie just finished 3rd grade at Summit Environmental School. In her free time, she loves to read, do gymnastics, listen to music, and of course, participate in theater! Mazie gives big thanks to her family for all their support, to the directors and all involved in this awesome experience, and to her artist, Alayna! It's been so fun!
ELIZA LEVENDOSKI ( Ziggy Artist)
Eliza just finished her freshman year at Logan High School where she played ASL soccer, floor hocky and wiffleball. She loves going to games, play productions and choir competitions to support her classmates and friends. Eliza is excited to be back on stage for the Jungle Book. She would like to thank her family and friends for all the encouragement!
ESTELLE HARRIS-EYO ( Ziggy Mentor)
Estelle is 9 years old and will be in 4th grade next year. Her favorite food is pepperoni pizza and her favorite animal is the red fox. Her hobbies include: biking, reading, swimming, soccer, and volleyball. This is her 4th production with the LCT. She loves theatre because it makes her feel happy! Estelle also loves anything related to High School Musical. She would
like to thank her mom, sister, grandma, grandpa and dad for supporting her in everything she does.
JACK MACKEY ( Dizzy Artist) Jack is so excited to be in his first stage production. He is a 6th grader at Holmen Middle School. He is new to the LaCrosse area, having moved from Northern New York last summer. He loves relaxing at home with his family, mom and dad, two older sisters, and his labradoodle Chester. He has enjoyed getting to know new people working on this production.
STACY BRUEMMER ( Director) Stacy has been the director of Penguin Project since LCT first began this engaging and important theatre initiative! Annie Jr. (2019) was our first Penguin Project show. It was a challenge and so rewarding, that Stacy has been a glad participant ever since! She's the director of LCT's Theatre For Youth company that tours local elementary schools. Kids aren't her only love, Stacy was most recently seen in LCT'S Black Box production of Vanya and Sonja and Masha and Spike! Stacy wishes you a wonderful day and a magical time at the theatre!
KLIEVE ( Stage Manager)
Katelyn is back for her 4th season working full time with La Crosse Community Theatre, though you could find her on stage and in the shop here years before that. She is currently the Director of Education working in partnership with the School District of La Crosse to create opportunities for students interested in all areas of theatre to expand their creativity
and explore their own identities. She is so grateful to all of her students, families, and community members for believing in the power of arts education and her family and friends for supporting her always.
CHEY CLARK ( Stage Manager) Hey ya’ll! Chey is so excited for another Penguin season! This is Chey’s 4th Penguin project. It brings her so much joy to see everyone thrive. When Chey is not at the theatre she is spending time with her nephew Kaeden, Working at daycare or shopping. Chey is so glad that you took the time today to see this marvelous show. Thank you so much for the continuous support. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
ADAM KRUSE ( Stage Manager) Adam is ecstatic to be back for another year of Penguin Project. Adam has been involved with Penguin Project since 2019. This project is absolutely incredible and such a great opportunity for anyone to be part of theatre. This group of kiddos are truly remarkable and have worked so hard to bring the Jungle Book to life, enjoy the show!
LEVI MAGNUSON ( Music Director) Levi is excited to be Music Directing at the La Crosse Community Theatre for the second time! He has been involved in theatre for 10 years. His favorite was playing “Levi” in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. Though Penguin Project was brand new to him, he was thrilled to begin this wonderful journey. Outside of the theatre, he works in the School
District of Cashton teaching 6-12 music and choir.
PAIGE JANSEN ( Choreographer)
Paige is currently working as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst at Chileda, while also balancing teaching dance at I and E dance studio in La Crosse WI and Footwork Dance Company in Appleton WI. This is Paige’s second penguin project production with the LCT, and she is so excited to be back with the team to use her two life passions to help bring the show to life.
LEX VIOLETTE ( Scenic Designer, Technical Director) Lex is thrilled to design another year of Penguin Project! ANNA GOODMAN ( Costume Designer)
Anna is no stranger to theatre, however this is her first time as the costume designer for a show. She has loved the whole process of dreaming up designs, finding the perfect materials, and watching the actors' eyes light up when she says she needs them for a fitting. Anna has loved working on this show, because these performers are a special bunch who take care of each other and help one another out!

SHAWN TUPPER ( Lighting Designer)
Shawn is thrilled for his third year doing the lighting design for LCT Penguin project! I’m grateful for the entire production team for this opportunity and getting to watch these kids grow year after year in this program. My hope is the work I do on this show can bring a smile to every child and help them tell their story. He enjoys volunteering at LCT along with his wife and 5 children. You may have seen him on stage as the Cowardly Lion in Wizard of Oz, Mr. Bumbles in Oliver or Earl in Waitress! Tell everyone you know to come out and support these amazing kids and this wonderfully unique program!
LUCY REYERSON ( Audio Designer)
Lucy Reyerson is a graduated senior from Aquinas High School and is excited to work on The Jungle Book as sound designer. She has worked on previous musical and play productions at both Aquinas High School and LCT. She would like to thank her parents and brother for their constant support.
KRIS FOLLANSBEE ( ASL Interpreter)
Kris Follansbee (ASL Interpreter) is thrilled to return for her fifth year with the Penguin Project. With over 30 years of interpreting experience, she has worked with a wide range of performers and public figures, but her favorite experiences are on stage with this incredible cast and
crew! Kris will also be interpreting select LCT performances this season. When she’s not interpreting, she enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her husband, family, and their dogs.
• The box office is open from 3 pm until 5 pm Monday through Friday and for one hour prior to each performance.
• The box office accepts cash, checks, and credit/debit cards.
• Single tickets become available for purchase 60 days before a production’s opening night.
Any ticket exchanges must be done through the box office in person or over the phone. Tickets may only be exchanged for another performance of the same show.
Please contact the box office to see if an exchange for a different date can be made. On rare occasions, LCT has allowed a ticket for one production to be used at a different production. If no exchanges can be made, the ticket price may be written off as a donation tax credit.
The use of cameras and/or recording equipment is strictly prohibited in the theatre. If you need to answer a call, please do so in the lobby so as to not disrupt the performance.
Flowers may be left in the box office for the stage manager to deliver or you may hand them to the cast member once they are in the lobby at the conclusion of the performance. Audience members are not allowed backstage.
If you have concerns about the weather facing an upcoming performance, please call the box office to double check that the performance will still continue. On rare occasions, LCT has canceled performances due to bad weather or cast conditions. If this occurs, exchanges or refunds will be issued.
Every individual, no matter the age, must have a ticket in order to attend the performance. If you would like to bring your children, please purchase seats for them even if they will be seated on someone’s lap.
Reservations for the general public begin at least 60 days before the opening of each show; season ticket reservations open the week prior. Patron donors may reserve their seats at any time. Please call the box office at 608-784-9292 if you have any questions.
Late arrivals will be seated at the house manager’s discretion during an appropriate point in the performance. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after the show begins, we reserve the right to release your seat(s) to someone else.
