Alpharetta is not your typical local government, and we work hard not to be. The City of Alpharetta approaches government with a more entrepreneurial mindset and a singular focus on making good things happen …. fast. Our ability to succeed with that approach requires a strong relationship between elected leaders and professional staff, an employee team that supports one another, and a shared commitment to service and the community we serve.
The City of Alpharetta operates under the strong mayoral form of government. The mayor is the CEO, and the legislative and policy making authority is vested in the Mayor and our six-member City Council. All seven of these elected officials are elected on a non-partisan basis; serve four years, at-large terms; and each has a vote on all policies, ordinances, rules, the annual budget and other matters that come before them.
The Mayor and Council appoints a City Administrator who carries out the policies and implements the goals established by the City Council and manages day-to-day operations to provide services effectively and economically.

alpharetta GET CONNECTED WITH
Alpharetta is setting the standard for what truly connected city looks like. We’re attracting the region’s brightest employees, and most innovative companies through our new, vibrant vision of work/life connectivity. Nestled just 25 miles north of Atlanta lies the welcoming city of Alpharetta, a place where community spirit thrives amidst innovation. Covering approximately 27 square miles, Alpharetta offers you not just a city, but a place to call home. Whether you're a visitor enchanted by our charm or a new resident embarking on this exciting journey, you'll quickly discover that Alpharetta is more than a location; it's a community that warmly embraces you.
Alpharetta's roots trace back to 1858 when pioneers settled on Cherokee Indian land, establishing a town with humble beginnings. Over time, this town has transformed into a thriving city while preserving the warmth of its heritage. In 2010, the U.S. Census Bureau recognized Alpharetta as one of the nation's fastest-growing cities, creating a tapestry of diverse backgrounds that beautifully weaves into our vibrant community.
Often hailed as the "technology city of the south," Alpharetta is home to high-tech giants such as ADP, Verizon Wireless, and Jackson Healthcare, and is also the center of a robust technology startup scene. Yet, beyond technological marvels, it's the people who form the heartbeat of innovation, creating a tight-knit community that celebrates success together.
Alpharetta is a thriving tech hub, and the city’s tech incubator, Tech Alpharetta, is a epicenter for innovation. Tech Alpharetta
incubates 40-50 start ups at any given time. Its 21 graduate companies have created over 2,000 jobs in Georgia.
Alpharetta has earned numerous accolades, but it's not just about recognition; it's about the bonds we share as a community. SafeWise consistently ranks us among the safest cities in Georgia, reflecting our commitment to each other's well-being.
For those considering a move, Alpharetta offers not just schools, but places where young minds flourish. Our public schools, with their remarkable 97% graduation rate and strong emphasis on Advanced Placement (AP) courses, are the pride of our community. It's a place where education isn't just a process; it's a shared endeavor to shape our future together.
In Alpharetta, we understand the importance of coming together as a community. Our calendar is filled with events that bring
us closer - from movies in the park to food truck gatherings, parades, art and music festivals, races, and holiday celebrations. We find reasons to celebrate year-round because we cherish our sense of togetherness.
Alpharetta's strategic location is complemented by excellent transportation options, but what truly connects us is the sense of belonging we share. With four interchanges on GA 400 and a fifth on the horizon, we are seamlessly connected to major highways. The Metropolitan Atlanta Regional Transit Authority (MARTA) enhances our public transit connectivity, allowing us to explore the broader Atlanta region while staying rooted in our community.
As Alpharetta grows, so do our shared experiences. New developments continually emerge, offering not just fresh dining experiences, retail shops, and entertainment venues, but places where we come together to create memories. Avalon, a thriving complex, is not just a shopping destination; it's a place where we connect over shared meals, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
In January 2018, The Hotel at Avalon and Alpharetta Conference Center opened their doors, providing modern comforts and Southern hospitality. These establishments epitomize our commitment to making every visitor feel like part of our family, ensuring that Alpharetta remains North Georgia's warmest resort enclave.
Alpharetta City Center, where Main Street meets Academy Street, is not just a location; it's the heart of our community. Here, we come together in city hall, a county library, a town green, and a city park. It's a place where our stories unfold, where our businesses flourish, and where we build our future, side by side.
Alpharetta values its green spaces, not just as places of recreation, but as areas where we connect with nature and each other. From walking trails to playgrounds, sports fields,

DISCOVER ALPHARETTA : ABOUT ALPHARETTA
Alpharetta was incorporated on December 11, 1858. The town was created to become the county seat of the newly formed Milton County. The territory comprising Milton County had once been a part of the Cherokee Nation and beginning in 1831 this area became the southern portion of Cherokee County, one of the largest counties in the state. Cherokee County’s size created a hardship for some of its southern residents who had to travel to Canton, Cherokee County’s seat, to conduct county business, a trip that could take up to four days for the round trip. To accommodate those residents, parts of Cherokee, Cobb, DeKalb, Gwinnett and Forsyth Counties were combined to create Milton County.
On April 12, 1858, the Milton County Inferior Court ordered the purchase of 60 acres from the Manning and Camp families. Twelve and one-half acres were retained for county use and the remaining forty seven and one-half acres were divided into lots and sold to the highest bidders. These lots were used to establish the downtown business district and residences for settlers who were drawn into the new town for commercial or other reasons. Before the year was over construction had started on a new courthouse and jail. The 1860 Federal Census for Alpharetta listed six carpenters, three blacksmiths, two brick masons, two shoemakers, two tailors, two grocers, two hoteliers, two livery stable employees, one ditcher, one doctor, one postmaster, one sheriff, and one constable.
The new government had barely three years to become established before the Civil War began. Milton County sent two representatives to the secession convention in Milledgeville, then the Georgia state capitol. These two men, Jackson Graham and J. C. Street voted against secession but they were in the minority. Soon, five infantry companies were raised locally and soldiers were sent into battle. These troops fought in some of the war’s most deadly engagements including Manassas, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Vicksburg, Chickamauga, and Atlanta. Milton County troops suffered 244 casualties.
In March 1865 the Superior Court reported a cash balance of minus $7.50 in the county treasury. Since there were no funds for education, Milton officials emphasized the importance of Sunday Schools in educating children. By 1871, the Male and Female Academy opened in a new building located in front of the current city hall. The school operated until the January 1922 when a new Milton School opened on Canton Street.
During the 1890s, primary schools, funded by local citizens, opened in communities throughout the county, Ocee, Warsaw, Hopewell, Crabapple and Summit among them.
Junior high schools were built in Birmingham and Newtown.
Alpharetta’s economy was cotton based for decades. Farmers grew cotton and downtown businesses opened to seed, fertilize, process, sell and ship the product. In 1901, the Webb
Alpharetta & Old Milton County History Museum
Local historians worked for over four years to open the Alpharetta & Old Milton County History Museum, which includes stories, photos, and memorabilia contributed by many local residents. The Museum was funded by the City of Alpharetta and developed in partnership with the Alpharetta & Old Milton County Historical Society which provided historical research and many of the artifacts on display.
The Alpharetta & Old Milton County History Museum is open Monday – Thursday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm and Fridays, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Admission is free. 678-297-6000
Most, if not all of the existing downtown commercial buildings, particularly those on the west side of South Main Street and on the west side of Old Roswell Street, were built between 1902 and 1914. During this period the cotton business flourished as did the downtown businesses. But in the 1920s and 1930s the cotton market was destroyed by the boll weevil, drought and the Great Depression. The price of cotton fell from 35 cents per pound in 1919 to 6 cents per pound in 1931. The two banks closed, cotton brokers could no longer offer seed and fertilizer to farmers on credit, and the farmers barely survived. By then Milton County was near bankruptcy. Teachers were forced to take pay cuts, and even then were not paid on time. Roads were in deplorable condition. County employees were underpaid. One local resident, the late Louie Jones, described the situation this way, “Schools during the Depression were nothing but shacks in the fields and not an inch of paved roads to get to them.” So in 1931, Milton County residents voted to become a part of Fulton County, its rich neighbor to the south. The vote was 213 for the move and 59 against. The change took place on January 1, 1932. Soon, a cafeteria, central heat and plumbing were installed at Milton School. Alpharetta’s main street was paved, school bus service was instituted, and pay for county employees was doubled.
Farmers shifted to livestock and truck farming in the 1930s and 1940s. The demand for food by U. S. troops during World War II led to the growth of the poultry business in much of North Georgia, including the Alpharetta area. The poultry industry provided local residents with a stable source of income for many years even long after the war ended. Two other developments provided jobs for Alpharettans. The Bell Bomber Plant, now Lockheed, opened in Marietta in1943, and the General Motors Assembly Plant in Doraville began operations in 1947.
The opening of Georgia Highway 400 in the 1970s and the growth of the Windward Development in the 1980s drew more residents and businesses to the area. Reasonable home prices, a moderate climate and superior schools made Alpharetta and surrounding communities excellent places to live, work and play.
In May of 2018, the City of Alpharetta celebrated the opening of the Alpharetta & Old Milton County History Museum, located inside Alpharetta’s City Hall. The History Museum covers the history of Alpharetta, from its earliest days as Cherokee Indian territory, through its remarkable emergence as one of the nation's most vibrant high tech cities.
Guano Warehouse opened for business in the landmark Cotton House building on Milton Avenue. At various times three gins operated in Alpharetta, two in Crabapple, one in Webb and Ocee.

Equifax Invests $25 Million to Expand Alpharetta Campus, Adding 250 New Jobs
In September, the City of Alpharetta announced that Equifax®, a global leader in data, analytics, and technology, will invest $25 million to expand its Alpharetta campus. The project will enhance the company’s multi-building site at 1505 Windward Concourse, creating space for nearly 250 new jobs and increasing total full-time employment at the location to approximately 1,660.
“This expansion reflects what so many leading companies already know—Alpharetta is a premier destination for top tech talent and innovative businesses,” said Alpharetta Mayor Jim Gilvin. “We’re proud that Equifax continues to grow here and invest in our community.”
The expansion includes a major renovation of the third floor of the JV White 1 building, transforming it from a data center into collaborative office space for the Equifax Corporate Technology Team. The upgraded space will support the company’s continued transition to the Equifax Cloud™—a cutting-edge global technology and security infrastructure backed by a $3 billion multi-year investment. One of the largest cloud initiatives in the industry, the Equifax Cloud has revolutionized the company’s operations and accelerated innovation across the organization.
The project will also feature modernized workspaces, updated equipment and furnishings, and improvements to on-site parking infrastructure.
“The Equifax Alpharetta campus plays a critical role in our global innovation strategy,” said Mark W. Begor, Equifax Chief Executive
Officer. “We are grateful for the support from the City of Alpharetta and believe that this expansion will help us to continue attracting top-tier tech talent going forward.”
Equifax has been headquartered in Atlanta since 1899 and operates in 24 countries across North America, Central and South America, Europe, and the Asia Pacific region. With nearly 15,000 employees worldwide, the company has maintained a strong presence in Alpharetta for over 35 years. The Alpharetta campus is Equifax’s largest global office, home to nearly 2,000 full-time employees and contractors.
The City of Alpharetta’s Economic Development Department collaborated with the Alpharetta Development Authority and Select Fulton to help secure the expansion.
“Alpharetta continues to show why it’s one of the most desirable places for companies to invest and grow,” said Robb Pitts, Chairman of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners. “We’re proud that Equifax has chosen to expand here, and Fulton County is fortunate to have great cities like Alpharetta that create strong communities and attract world-class businesses.”
“We’re thrilled that Equifax continues to see Alpharetta as a strategic location for investment and talent,” added Jack Nugent, Chair of the Development Authority of Alpharetta. “This project aligns perfectly with our vision of fostering a dynamic innovation economy.”
Renovations are expected to begin later this year.

New and Ongoing Development in Alpharetta
Lakeview
On the northwest side of Haynes Bridge and GA 400, construction of a 62-acre mixed use development is underway. The development will contain 630,000 square feet of office, 32,000 square feet of restaurant and retail, 60 townhomes, and 255 apartments. The site features central greenspaces and new sections of the Alpha Loop.
Continuum
Southwest Value Partners is transforming a 52acre site in the Windward area into a dynamic, mixed-use destination designed to foster connectivity and walkability. Phase 1, completed in August 2025, transformed a 515,000-squarefoot office building into Class A space featuring premium amenities. Leasing is now underway.
The Gathering
A new residential and commercial development is taking shape at Haynes Bridge and Morrison Parkway. The Gathering will include 140 townhomes, 39 detached homes, and nearly 50,000 square feet of commercial space.
Brookside
Exciting changes are underway at the 155-acre Brookside area, including improved sidewalks, new bike lanes, and expanded trails. A recent small area study recommended reducing travel lanes to make room for bike infrastructure— part of a broader effort to enhance mobility and revitalize the area.
Starting in 2026, Portman Holdings will redevelop a 19-acre site in Brookside, transforming two existing 130,000-square-foot office buildings—one to be demolished, the other renovated—into a vibrant mixed-use destination. The project will feature 332 rental apartments, 69 for-sale townhomes, 130,000 square feet of office space, and 56,000 square feet of commercial space.

Alpharetta recognizes that high quality early childhood programs are not only great for students and their parents, they also serve as great economic stabilizers and equalizers. Good schools bring more residents (and jobs) to the area which helps to increase the availability of taxpayer money to fund community improvements. Alpharetta’s exceptional primary and secondary schools are led by educated, talented, and forward-thinking administrators, teachers and support staff who focus on curriculum diversity and pay much attention to early intervention protocols to foster academic growth from the ground up.

WHO WE ARE
Innovation Academy is a STEM magnet high school that provides an educational experience that will help push students to be creators and problem-solvers for a continuously changing world.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe that effective learning cannot be isolated from the world around us. To truly learn something, people need to be engaged in a real-world environment where they learn to work in teams, communicate effectively, and practice critical analysis and creative problem-solving to understand how the knowledge they gain in class actually helps them after leaving our school. We believe that students learn best when they get to do and redo. Students need to try things, experiment and test; then reflect and try again.
WHAT WE DO
Our problem-based learning curriculum allows students the freedom to actively engage in their education. They will work in teams to solve complex problems, like providing safe drinking water to people in disaster zones. These projects allow students to gain deep understanding of learning standards by seeing them applied in a real-world setting.
Requiring students to complete a career pathway in healthcare science, engineering, or information technology allows students to study STEM standards through the lens of some of the most cutting edge career opportunities in our modern world. This connects core content class objectives with practical applications.
Students will complete a self-selected culminating project which ensures students will be able to apply the knowledge they gained in their course work with the less-tangible, but equally important skills such as teamwork, communication, critical thinking and creative problem-solving. Employers at all levels claim these skills are most important for students to develop. Practical application and mastery of all these skills is essential to be a leader in today’s workforce.

Take a few minutes and get to know us, check in on social media, and join us for events and volunteer programs — we look forward to meeting you!
911- The Alpharetta 911 Center has received nationwide recognition for its performance and is known as one of the top 911 centers. In 2016, it became one of the first in Georgia to implement the “Text to 911” capability and it is the first center in the state to incorporate NG911 technology, ensuring more accurate location information. In 2017, the Center received one of the rarest honors to be given to any 911 center – the prestigious International Academy of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) accreditations for its police, fire, and EMS operations.
The Center continues to maintain this Tri-Accreditation by reapplying every three years and is one of the few emergency dispatch 911 centers worldwide to hold all three accreditations. In 2021, the Center added an additional award when they became accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and recertified in 2025.

FIRE- Alpharetta’s Fire Department is a proactive department that focuses on providing the highest level of fire, rescue, and emergency medical services to the those who live, work and play in our community. The department’s goal is to save lives and protect property while minimizing loss through prevention and education. The Fire Department holds the highest ISO rating score (ISO 1) as determined by the Insurance Services Office (ISO). In fact, making the Alpharetta Fire Department one of less than 500 agencies out of roughly 48,000 fire departments nationwide to obtain this prestigious designation. The ISO is the national “gold standard” used by fire departments across the nation as the governing body that determines what category fire departments should be rated in regard to insurance risks.
The department trains to mitigate any emergency as well as to provide progressive care in medical emergencies. Several years ago, the Alpharetta Fire Department launched My Watch Alpharetta - a Community Paramedicine Program built around the needs of our community’s medically vulnerable and underserved populations to provide them with compassionate care and service, enabling them to thrive. The program was developed with a specific focus towards the areas of
injury prevention, public education, and patient advocacy to help meet the everchanging needs of those within our community. This year, My Watch expanded the program by adding Community Risk Reduction (CRR) to the services it provides. CRR, is a proactive, data-driven approach used by fire departments and public safety organizations to identify, prioritize, and address the risks that threaten a community’s safety and well-being. Instead of focusing only on responding to emergencies, CRR emphasizes prevention and education to reduce the likelihood and impact of those emergencies in the first place. Examples of programs offered, include fire safety education in schools, fall prevention programs for seniors, smoke alarm installations, CPR classes, and disaster preparedness workshops. As a proactive fire department, we strive to better serve our community.

If the best city planners and developers got together to design a city from the ground up that exemplified a healthy and vibrant mix of live, work and play, what you would have is Alpharetta. Known for its upscale restaurants and shopping, a healthy mix of quality housing options, and office environments, Alpharetta leads the way for what it has become and for what it is still working to get to.
Move to Alpharetta and you can choose from upscale, intown living surrounded by shops and restaurants, or a massive array of swim and tennis communities. Work in Alpharetta and you may spend your days on one of the many large corporate campuses – some of them filled with their own amenities, or open the door to your own small office condo. Play in Alpharetta and you could be walking on its extensive trail system, watching youth sports in one of its many parks; attending a first-class equestrian center; perusing the metro-area’s most extensive farmer’s market; watching national touring acts in a large regional amphitheater; or hitting one of a couple large districts filled with upscale bars and restaurants.
Alpharetta is a city where people aspire to be. It’s grown from a small southern town to one of the country’s most admired suburban communities – and its city leaders are still hungry for more.
“Alpharetta is just a fun place to buy and sell real estate,” said Lara Dolan a longtime Alpharetta Realtor with Ansley Real Estate. “I love showing homebuyers who know nothing about Alpharetta around town. They are blown away – everyone wants to be a part of what’s going on here.”
Housing
With an estimated population of just under 70,000, Alpharetta has just over 26,000 housing units ranging from estates, swim/ tennis and golf-course communities, to more urban condo and single-family home settings. The median household income is around $117,000 and median home value is $41,667,
up 4% from last year, according to Zillow. That’s a big jump in this market considering many other metro markets have been flat.
“Area home prices jumped dramatically from 2020 through 2024,” said Dolan. “That hockey stick increase in prices has tapered off, but overwhelmingly property in the area has held its value. I see no reason for home values in the Alpharetta area to do anything but steadily rise as the area proved over and over again that it is one of the best places to live in the southeast “
Homebuyers looking for safe amenity-filled neighborhoods will find no shortage of options. Most are located within walkable distances to parks and trails. Those looking for more of an intown feel can choose between two separate, but connected, downtown atmospheres in the renown Avalon and the Alpharetta City Center. Both districts have their own unique feel, and both have a thriving collection of restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.
Retail, Restaurants and Night-Life
Whether it is daytime, nighttime- weekday or weekend, this city is always awash in things to see, places to eat and storefronts to shop. Alpharetta’s calendar is filled with festivals and events and there is always a reason for people to gather together.
The two downtown districts in Avalon and the City Center boast an impressive mix of stores and restaurants, and when you couple that
with the destination-venues around town, you will find no shortage of things to do.
The city boasts an impressive array of upscale and casual restaurants. When you compliment that with the stand-alone restaurants throughout the city, you can impress a client, highlight a special occasion, or meet up with friends for a fun night out. There is no reason to have to leave Alpharetta to find a good meal. And if you venture to Avalon or the City Center, you can show up early to walk around and maybe find a pre-meal place to enjoy, and then walk off your meal afterwards and enjoy some cocktails in a wide variety of venues.
When it was built, Avalon was instantly something every suburban city throughout the country wanted for its own. It is an upscale, city-block style town. The district is bordered by a Whole Foods to the south, a Cinema overlooking a town green that becomes an ice-skating rink in the winter to the north, a single-family and townhome development to the west, and two high-rise office towers to the east. In between all of that is a very upscale collection of shops including Orvis, Anthropologie, Banana Republic and others. As well as restaurants including Rumi’s Kitchen, Café Intermezzo and Oak Steakhouse. And if you are looking for a hotel for family or a business associate, or looking to host a convention, the Hotel Avalon would be a great spot.
Alpharetta’s city-center also includes a host of distinct restaurants, and a smattering of unique shops that keep the place humming all day and all night. On Saturdays during late spring, summer and early fall, the city boasts one of the area’s largest farmers’ markets. Run by the Alpharetta Business Association, it attracts thousands of visitors every weekend who not only peruse the event’s vendors, but who stop for lunch or coffee in the many downtown restaurants. With plenty of parking and a huge variety of options, the city center is a major draw.
A typical Saturday might include a downtown packed with residents in the morning attending the Farmer’s Market or a similar event, and then packed with residents at night coming to have dinner, attend an outdoor concert and bar-hop. The Alpharetta CityCenter is alive and well.
Alpharetta is now calling itself a Music City. There are outdoor music festivals including Wire and Wood and Brew Moon, which take place on the streets around downtown Alpharetta. National touring acts sell out the Ameris Bank Amphitheater. And there are several smaller venues, like Roaring Social in downtown Alpharetta – a unique venue transcending the typical speakeasy experience.
Other districts are being created all over the city. Alpharetta’s Alpha-Loop is a multi-use trail connecting all the major districts in the city, along with some yet-to-be developed ones.
Office For Everyone
With more than 540 office buildings totaling more than 20.7M square feet, Alpharetta is host to everything from corporate headquarters to small mom and pop businesses. What stared off as the corporate campus mecca of the country has blossomed into a place where employees can walk out the front door to a host of shopping and dining options.
In the 1990’s, Alpharetta became the most connected city in the country, being the first to fully invest in a vast network of fiber-optic infrastructure. That move attracted tech and data centers that moved here from all over the world. A drive through the city shows a who’swho of corporate and regional headquarters from companies like ADP, LexisNexis, UPS, McKesson, Fiserv and more.
Alpharetta boasts its contribution to the tech industry, advertising its 700+ tech companies located throughout the city. More than 25% of the top technology employers in the metro area are located in Alpharetta.
Many of the corporate campuses have transitioned into offices that also offer
restaurants, shops and in the case of JacksonHealthcare, spas to its employees. And most of the new office development includes other restaurant and retail uses interwoven throughout their projects. The two high-rises located in Avalon were so popular that rentrates were comparable to those of high-rises in downtown Atlanta.
Alpharetta is a unique place and has become a destination point for many. Like Dolan says, the Alpharetta lifestyle is in-demand.
“When I’m showing houses in Alpharetta to my clients, the city instantly checks all the boxes,” she said. “Walkability, great schools, the Alpha Loop…these are all criteria we hear from buyers. And Alpharetta has it.”

The Alpha Loop
The Alpha Loop is one of Alpharetta's most dynamic and transformative projects, designed to connect neighborhoods to activity centers, improve mobility, promote a healthier lifestyle, and enhance the quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and visits our community.
At its core, the Alpha Loop is a multi-use path that winds through Alpharetta, linking key amenities like the Big Creek Greenway, Downtown Alpharetta, Avalon, and the North Point District. Yet, the Alpha Loop is more than just a path; it is a destination in itself—a series of destinations that highlight the unique character of the districts and neighborhoods that shape our city.
Launched in 2016, the Alpha Loop is a long-term project, similar to the Big Creek Greenway, and will take time to complete. Nevertheless, significant progress has already been made. In 2020, the first full segment of the Alpha Loop was completed, connecting Downtown Alpharetta and Avalon, with additional sections currently under construction. Visit the "Our Progress" link at https://alphaloopfoundation.org/ explore-the-loop/ for the latest updates.
The Big Creek Greenway
WHAT IS A
GREENWAY?
The greenway is a linear park where people and nature come together. It protects the land we love while offering space for recreation, alternative transportation, and environmental education. It also connects Alpharetta’s quality of life today with a future that preserves it. Our greenway is an investment in a thriving Alpharetta, with open spaces for people and natural areas for plants and wildlife.
The Big Creek Greenway is primarily a 12-foot wide concrete path that meanders through the deciduous woods along Big Creek. The greenway offers an ideal setting for walking, jogging, inline roller blading, and biking. Dirt mountain bike trails are located on the east side of the creek 2/5 mile south of Webb Bridge Road.
HOW LONG IS THE BIG CREEK GREENWAY?
Total length of the Big Creek Greenway, from Windward Parkway to Mansell Road, is approximately 9 miles.
WHERE CAN THE GREENWAY BE ACCESSED?
Alpharetta YMCA: From Old Milton Parkway, go 1/4 mile north on North Point Parkway to Preston Ridge Road and turn right toward the Ed Isakson/Alpharetta YMCA.
Haynes Bridge Road: From North Point Parkway, go 1/5 mile south on Haynes Bridge Road. Parking is on the east (left) side of the road.
North Point Mall: Driving northbound on North Point Parkway halfway between Mansell and Haynes Bridge Roads, find the greenway sign directly across from Haverty's Furniture. Parking is located in a wooded area. Restrooms are available at that location. 800 feet south of this entrance is the NorthPoint Village retail center. Walk behind the shops to the stairway that leads to the wetlands mulch trail. Note: The stairs are not A.D.A. accessible.
Kimball Bridge Road: Rock Mill Park, located 1/4 mile southeast of North Point Parkway, has Greenway parking and public restrooms. This area is prone to flood during heavy rains.
Marconi Drive: Follow Marconi Drive off of Windward Parkway to reach a small parking area at the northern end of the Greenway.
IS THE BIG CREEK GREENWAY
COMPLETE?
Not yet. Long range plans include connection to the Forsyth County trail system.
WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?
• Use, don’t abuse. Stay on the trail and off the berm separating the path from the creek.
• Keep the Greenway clean—carry trash to the nearest can.
• Respect all users. Bikers: watch for kids and obey the speed limit.
• Be a Greenway steward. Report damage (like fallen trees) to 678-297-6123.
Update: Maintaining the Greenway costs more than building it, and we hope to add features like a flower garden and children’s play area. To help, send a check (no cash) payable to City of Alpharetta Recreation and Parks at:

Keeping people on bicycles safer on our paths, roads and trails
In 2011, the City of Alpharetta wanted input from local residents and business leaders on making roads and trails in the area safer, with more robust facilities to support the growing interest for people to use bicycles for errands, fitness, and transportation - Bike Alpharetta was formed! Now an active 501c3 non-profit community organization, Bike Alpharetta Inc. advocates for a safe environment for road/trail users of all abilities.
In 2018, Bike Alpharetta supported the City of Alpharetta as it was recognized nationally as a Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) by League of American Bicyclists! With an emphasis on educational activities and expansion of the Big Creek Greenway facilities, the BFC honor was extended from 2023-2027.
Involvement with Bike Alpharetta is free, with volunteers encouraged to donate time and talent at safety events during the year as well as Bikes For Kids in the fall.
BIG CREEK GREENWAY and ALPHA LOOP
The Big Greek Greenway in Alpharetta is a 12-foot wide, multi-use concrete path, amd was expanded in 2021 to a full 9 miles! It connects to the Roswell section on the south end at Mansell Road and now continues on a new north section to Union Hill Park. There are several underpasses at major roads, the newest at Windward Parkway.
The Greenway offers an ideal setting for cycling, jogging, in-line roller blading, a leisurely walk and more. It even provides access to the city’s only mountain bike trails, Mt. Adams, located near Preston Ridge Park.
Bike Alpharetta is proud to have produced an updated digital and print map of the Greenway, with support from the City of Alpharetta, Alpharetta Convention & Visitors Bureau and Tracy Morton-HOME Real Estate. Reference the map for trail access, bike repair stations, rest room facilities and more.
Also in 2024 the Alpha Loop opened a new section to provide a connection from Old Milton Parkway (near City Center) to Westside Parkway and Northwinds Parkway. Managed by the Alpha Loop Foundation, there are two finished miles of the urban multi-use path, and more connections planned.
BIKES FOR KIDS
Started in 2007 by one family, Bikes For Kids is now the main community project for Bike Alpharetta. With help from 125 or more volunteers each December plus local bike shops and
partners, Bikes For Kids has provided 5,470 bicycles, tricycles and scooters, as well as 2,624 new youth helmets, to North Fulton Community Charities for Toyland. All items - bikes, trikes, helmets - are provided FREE for families in need.
It is a huge task, but so worth the effort. We accept donations of gently-used and new bicycles and tricycles each fall (see the website for details), then all are cleaned/repaired on ONE DAY in December, which we call Domestique Day. Bike Alpharetta uses monetary donations to purchase bike parts and new helmets, as it is a Georgia law that children 15 years of age or younger must wear a helmet when operating a bicycle.
Advocacy in Action - Bike Alpharetta Mission
· Bicycling on paths, streets and trails should be safe.
· Bicycling infrastructure should enable access to people of all ages and abilities for mobility purposes (recreation, sport, transportation).
· Bicycling is an integral part of a multi-modal transportation system.
· Bicycling positively transforms our community by offering an option for user mobility, strengthening the economy, improving the environment, and promoting an active, healthy lifestyle.

How the Farmers Market Started
In 2006, a group of Downtown Alpharetta merchants started the Farmers Market. The early markets were held under the old oak tree in the city parking lot where farmers would display their goods in the back of their pick-up trucks until there wasn’t anything left to sell. Since then, the Market has grown into a Saturday morning destination for people from all over the North Fulton area, surrounding counties, Atlanta and even the North Georgia mountains. The Alpharetta Farmers Market has consistently been voted as a "Top Market" in the area. The Market has received multiple years’ awards including “Best of North Atlanta,” “Best of North Fulton and South Forsyth,” and “Best Neighborhood Farmers Market.” Even as the Market has grown, it remains a great way to experience the Alpharetta community, local shops, restaurants, to meet new people, and see friends and neighbors. When to Go
The Alpharetta Farmers Market is open on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. from early April through mid-November. The Market makes every effort to be open
rain or shine, but it will close on stormy days with wind, rain, and lightning. For weather advisories and other updates, follow the Market’s social media channels or check out the website at alpharettafarmersmarket.com
Where to Go
The Market is conveniently located around the Downtown Alpharetta Town Green area in front of Alpharetta City Hall on North and South Broad Streets. Free parking is available in the City Center and Milton Avenue parking decks as well as street parking and select church lots. Parking areas may change due to ongoing construction projects downtown.
