architecture herald square monument sketchup & photoshop
heal, hate heal, hate was the title of my master’s thesis. inspired by the recently controversy surrounding monuments and their role in the american landscape, my thesis sought to transform sites of injustice into sites of healing. The site in question was new york’s herald square, where i reimagined the james gordon bennett monument as an elevated park, situated on two levels for two unique experiences, one exposed wholly to the light and the other a canopied space where the monument is encased and dominated by the statue of minverva (the greek godess of wisdom).

heal, hate [above] a plan rendering of the two levels of the reimagined square, the monument to james gordon bennett has been toppled and the statue of minerva removed and placed on an elevated pedestal at the heighest point of the structure. the niche where the statue once stood becomes a font , where reclaimed water drips from the green-roof above. [right] two sections of the square showing the placement of the key elements.

the flatbush brooklyn has risen in rank of the boroughs to arguably become the place to live and work in new york. The flatbush’s façade is intended to speak to brooklyn’s industrial past, while balancing it with its increasingly upscale future. while developing the façade we selected materials which would season with time and would ultimately add to the residence’s appeal in its rather historical context, between the flatbush-ditmas park and west midwood neighborhoods.

elements of steel, copper, concrete and wood are complimented by steel replica windows that speak clearly to the area’s history. embracing a modern industrial appeal, the façade provides moments of elegance, including the cantilevered, glass-clad canopy guiding residents and guest to the lobby. 11

the flatbush inside, the clients wanted an interior that duly related to the exterior, but also pulled from the more refined park slope aesthetic of the nearby neighborhood. By utilizing patterned tiles in the corridors, we managed to crreate a refined, but nevertheless modern space that spoke to the history of the area.

to further define the lobby, the idea of a “mailbox collage� allowed for a unique and exciting way to arrange the unit mailboxes on the lobby wall. This aesthetic is mirrored on the opposing wall with a collage of vintage gilded mirrors. 13

westside live westside live was part of a studio project aimed at revitalizing the historically black neighborhood in las vegas, nv. Each student was assigned a lot to redevelop. westside live was intended as an entertainment district within the westside revitalization project. our concepts were presented to the city of las vegas in the spring of 2015. above is the a perspective of the public plaza which incorporates a fountain inspired by the neck and frets of a guitar, paying homage to the westside’s musical history.

beginning with a site that was entirely razed following virtual abandonment when las vegas was desegregated in the late 60s. I conceived of a mixed use development, taking advantage of the existing alleyway to maximize connection and circulation within the greater community.. the concept includes: townhouses, condos, retail, sub-grade parking, public and private recreational spaces. 15

delridge nursing home located in new jersey, the clients sought a stand out facility that felt more like a hotel than a nursing home. In response this lobby, relays a sense of luxury to visiting families and residents alike. The high ceilings are celebrated with a mirrored canopy that draws and expands light from the hanging pendants.

bonsai gallery the bonsai gallery was the resulting project from my first studio at parsons. in an aim to maximize the use of limited space, I developed a work table that doubles as an access point to the basement level. by pulling out a panel from the cut, the workspace is doubled.

galitan nursing home this nursing home is located in nashville and therein we took careful consideration of the project’s location when concieving the design. elements of wood, greenery and stone make up thhe space that balances rustic themes with a modern flare. this project was selected to relay my design process through hand sketching.

barcelona desk the barcelona desk was designed for a client who was seeking an executive office “unlike any other�. The end result pulled inspiration from mies van der rohe’s timeless pavillion. Using brass in place of steel, the desk exhibits refined geometries that pay homage to the building that inspired it.

this project was the result of a collaboration with columbia business school and parsons school of design working with remy martin to help their xo label of cognac appeal to millennial customers. my concept was to re-imagine the existing iconic bottle with labeling and accessories that better fit the history and legacy of the remy martin name. 47

tap2o tap2O was the result of a collaboration with a small team of students from the royal college of art and parsons with the directive to design a protest. our chosen topic was bottled water in which we developed a parody brand that we marketed in new york’s union square to relay the issues surrounding the bottled water industry. we choose humor as a means of speaking to this important topic.
