DOWSE ORCHARDS For a perfect holiday outing, Dowse Orchards in Sherborn offers a quintessential New England experience. This historic, family-owned farm, operating since 1778, lets you cut down your own Christmas tree while exploring the charming, wintry orchard grounds. Beyond trees, you can pick up handmade wreaths and other seasonal greenery to add that finishing touch to your décor. MR. SID GUIDE A LETTER FROM DOC ROC a longtime Mr. Sid client & friend

Some may ask, “How does a Plastic Surgeon become a beekeeper?” My farming adventure began several decades back at my farm in Randolph, Vermont, Danoli Farm, named for my daughters Dana and Olivia. I found nature to be a welcome respite from long days in the operating room. Located on 160 acres in the foothills of the Roxbury Range, it was there that I raised grass fed, free range Red Devon Beef cattle. Tending the fields I became fascinated by another small partner that often joined in---the honeybee and their sustainability, elegant simplicity, and ultimately their gift, honey Prized since the days of the Pharaohs, honey is a timeless treasure. As our world becomes beholden to advancing technologies, and as artificial intelligence becomes king, bees remain nature’s queens. Many beekeeping techniques remain unchanged for centuries. However, since the end of the 20th century, bees are now facing new threats that they were never meant to handle. Pollution, microplastics and many other human made perils, now threaten the bee colonies that pollinate our crops. Honey bees now rely on us, the beekeepers, to act as the bulwark against the threats to their survival.

What started with two hives, lead to “BEE-School” under the guidance of my guru, beekeeper Andrew Smith. I studied both the complexity and elegance, discovering both the legend and the precision of the craft. Not unlike plastic surgery in some ways, beekeepers stand at the crossroads of art and science. Our bees are located at the “new “ Danoli Farm located in Newton, MA -- local bees, making local wildflower honey, for local folks. Our mission is simple: to raise the healthiest bees (bees get great healthcare), in all natural hives, producing the highest quality, small batch, unprocessed, raw, local honey. Always subject to the vagaries of the weather, we are fortunate to now offer five honey flavors and colors, in small batches, that reflect the wildflowers of the seasons. My great friends Stuart and Barry Segel first appreciated the magic of our honey. Mr Sid (where I have gotten my BEE-utiful clothes for decades) was the first store of offer our DocRoc local honey to their clients, in a kaleidoscope of colors.
