Urbanization brings both advantages and challenges for sustainable development. Due to this rapid urbanization, there is a need to have an innovative solution to address the challenges such as food security, mass food wastage, increase in carbon footprint, increase in transportation cost for food supplies, additions of harmful chemicals for the early growth of vegetables and fruits, and most importantly, community well-being. Currently, Pune does not have well-designed open spaces; people tend to go to malls/closed spaces for leisure time. This thesis is focused on establishing an urban farming hub that will cater to these issues and additionally provide a natural environment for the urban dwellers to learn more about farming and participate in various activities related to it.
Drawings are based on interdisciplinary methodologies, including case studies, surveys, and data collection. This study examines the current state of urban agriculture in Pune, identifying key aspects, challenges, and opportunities.
