We’re excited to spotlight the “Specific Waste Management in Poti and Khobi Municipalities” initiative a project that combined practical infrastructure, community awareness, and a vibrant local spirit. Implemented by Wasteless with the support of “Greening the Future: Advancing Rights and Stability,” this initiative brought tailored waste management solutions to life in both Poti and Khobi municipalities
WhatWasDone?
Infrastructure: For the first time in both municipalities, systems for safely managing specific waste like e-waste and batteries were established That means:
Outdoor and indoor e-waste bins, with outdoor bins being introduced for the first time in Georgia. Special indoor battery bins. A functional collection system to ensure safe disposal and transport of collected waste.

Awareness-Raising: Because infrastructure alone isn’t enough, Wasteless also engaged in:
Tailor-made awareness-raising activities for pupils in 8 schools. Competition between the schools to see who could collect the most waste Outreach activities to private sector actors to promote Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and foster participation in the new system
First-ever eco-friendly festivals in both municipalities.

The outcomes: Because impact is what truly matters, the project led to:
First-ever e-waste and battery collection systems now up and running in both Poti and Khobi municipalities
First-ever eco-friendly festivals held in both municipalities. Boosted awareness of EPR and the role of the private sector in tackling waste.
Increased understanding in the local community and among pupils of the risks of e-waste and batteries, and why their proper disposal matters for both health and the planet.
To date, 13 tonnes of e-waste have been collected in Poti, and 3 tonnes in Khobi - we could not believe it either
Three winning schools, two in Poti and one in Khobi, will have the opportunity to implement an eco-friendly initiative supported by the project
To mark the initiative's success, award the winning schools, and further increase awareness of e-waste and eco-friendly practices, we co-organised two beautiful eco-festivals on 12 June in Khobi and 13 June in Poti and let’s say: sustainability has never looked this fun!

Festival Highlights from the UNDP Georgia’s Stand:
PlasticWatcher’s thought-provoking installation: “Imagine There Is No Waste” As expected, local youngsters took many selfies using the installation mirror.
An almost non-stop quiz on green transition hosted by the one and only Eleniko Foxy, with eco-prizes for the brightest minds. Reusable bottles and bags were awarded to promote waste-reducing habits
UNDP Accelerator Lab’s premiere of its brand-new video game on waste separation
– local youngsters loved it!
