I am sorry that the last week of term has been so dominated by the extreme downpour of snow, black ice and the logistics, instead of enjoying the planned Christmas festivities for the students. Thank you to all parents for your continued support during this week, any difficult decisions that we have taken are always in the best interests of our students but I appreciate that we cannot please everyone all of the time. I would like to specifically thank the site staff for their endeavours in challenging circumstances. It was great that we managed to have the Winter Concert last week, an amazing evening with excellent performances from some of our very talented musicians. I also thoroughly enjoyed watching the Year 10 Pantomime- links media releases - the local primary school thought they were fabulous. Christmas Dinner Day in school was very festive, the canteen cooked a gorgeous Christmas Dinner for over 800 students. That is a really special day in school and I really enjoy helping to serve the dinners along with other members of my team. We are very lucky to have such excellent on site catering staff. In any student survey - the food always comes out on top! Our students continue to demonstrate a lot of respect and empathy for others, the 6th Form students raised £212.00 from their Christmas Jumper day- the donation will go to Save The Children. The students' support for the local food banks was also quite overwhelming. It was also great to see so many of our younger students giving a helping hand to our older community by helping to serve lunch in our local community. Links to media release. It was a shame that we have had to postpone our end of term ‘Celebration’ assemblies but the year Progress leaders have planned these for the first week back. The external theatre production of a Christmas Carol has also been postponed to the 30th January. This will be seen by the Year 10s as part of their GCSE text for English Literature.

We are also saying goodbye to Mr Mammen at the end of term. Mr Mammen has been Deputy Headteacher in charge of Curriculum and Progress since January 2016. I am sure you will all join me in thanking him for his excellent contribution to the school over this period of significant improvement. He is moving to a promoted role, which is well deserved. I am delighted that Miss Larkin has been appointed to this position and she will look forward to working with you all in her new role.
