It is with great pleasure that I write my first newsletter as headteacher of Roding Valley High School. Before I joined the school, I was told about the wonderful school community and how unique it is. Now, almost two weeks in, I have experienced this first hand. In my letters to parents and carers about the impact of RAAC I have referenced the fantastic support that we have received from you as we navigate through this difficult situation. I would like to thank each and every person who has taken the time to get in touch with us. Your feedback has been crucial in helping to shape our next steps. My most recent letters to parents and carers can be found here. While it has been important to communicate with you about changes to arrangements for the first weeks of term, I would now like to take the opportunity to properly introduce myself. I have been a teacher of psychology for 16 years and have held senior leadership positions in a number of London schools for 12 years. My roles have included head of social science, head of sixth form, assistant and vice principal. I have also taken a lead on behaviour and attendance in schools and understand the fundamental importance of this in students’ academic success. Most recently I was Vice Principal at City of London Academy in Highbury Grove. I believe that a school should be at the very heart of its community and that our staff and students should all feel proud to work and study here and to uphold the school’s values of aspiration, respect and endeavour. I am passionate about education and committed to building on our school’s fantastic academic results, while actively working with our local partners and pursuing our school’s vision to be ‘the school of choice for our local community, developing successful young people with high aspirations, who show respect for all and endeavour to become the very best that they can be’. I would also like to welcome the new year 7 and 12 students who officially enrolled as the newest members of the Roding Valley family on Wednesday 6th September, and to our new members of staff. They have made an outstanding start to life at Roding Valley and have settled in exceptionally quickly, demonstrating our values of aspiration, respect and endeavour in abundance.
