We also have some thrilling news about the future of our House System. Over the next 18 months, we will be completely reviewing it to make it bigger and better than ever! We want to ignite a massive sense of community and friendly competition, while opening up exciting new student leadership roles, teamwork opportunities, and vibrant daily engagement across all year groups
On top of that, we are expanding our leadership team and internally advertising for two brand-new Associate Assistant Headteacher roles to drive positive change One role will focus on boosting Reading, Writing, Literacy, and Handwriting across the school The second role is all about you! This position will completely transform Parental Engagement, moving away from simple school notices and building an exciting, two-way partnership where your voices truly shape our community.
As we look forward to a fantastic term ahead, we are also thrilled to invite you to our exciting Summer Fair on 6th June from 2:00pm We anticipate a fantastic day with numerous activities and encourage you to attend with your friends and family. ANew Chapter: Starting the GCSE Journey
The end of this half-term also marks a significant transition for our cohort. I am excited to announce that there will be several positive changes to theYear 9 timetable following the break.
Our students will be moving into their formal GCSE option blocks, which represents a major milestone in their education This shift means that ourYear 9 students are officially starting their GCSE journey This is a proud moment for them as they begin to specialise in the subjects they are passionate about, and we look forward to supporting them as they step up to this new level of academic rigor
The Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Expedition
Speaking of milestones, this coming weekend is a big one! I would like to say a huge good luck to all of our Year 9 students who are taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze expedition
The DofE program is such a wonderful activity for personal growth. It moves learning beyond the classroom and helps our students build essential life skills, including:

Resilience: Overcoming physical challenges and staying positive in all conditions
Peer Motivation: Supporting and lifting one another up to reach a common goal

I was delighted to hear that the Silver DofE practice weekend went excellently for theYear 10 students who participated Miss Burke and Mr Naidoo said how wonderful they were as a group and how impressed they were with their attitude and engagement. Finally, in our regular update onTristan’s Road to Prague, I am delighted to inform you that he competed in the European Championships and won a Gold medal. Onto the next event in July in Hamburg!

We are well and truly into the exam season and I have been incredibly proud of the year group when I see them every morning at the revision breakfasts It is really important to realise that the exam season will go on through May and June Some students will have back to back exams and it is highly pressurised I would like to emphasise how essential it is that students
take time to relax and re-charge to ensure that they are able to tackle the next couple of months.

This is a reminder that there will be interventions running during and after school as well as during May half term I hope to share the timetable with you soon
As part of our intervention program we are now running revision sessions in all subjects There is no study leave as students are still expected to be in all lessons If there are any extenuating circumstances, please let me know
l would like to draw your attention to the Brook Library. Asixth form study space which is overseen by Mrs Parton, our study supervisor. It is a quiet space with revision resources, a computer suite and chromebooks which students can use. It is used by sixth formers after school and we invite your child to join this mature and proactive working environment to support them with their revision in the coming weeks and months. It will be open to year 11 until they go on study leave in May, every Monday -Thursday. We look forward to welcoming them into this space and supporting them with their GCSEs in the coming weeks and months

OurYear 11 Hospitality and Catering students recently enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Marriott Hotel, Waltham Abbey This visit provided an invaluable opportunity for the group to gain first-hand insight into the world of professional hospitality

National Finalists -Apps for Good Showcase!
We are incredibly proud to announce that two of our talented Year 8 students, Fina Eappariello and Anaya Kwabiah have been selected as national finalists for the prestigiousApps for Good Showcase.
For the past several months, the girls have been dedicated members of theApps for Good club, meeting every Friday with Miss Haque, Ms. Neasca, and Mr.Akram from the Business and IT Department. Their mission was to design an app that tackles a real-world social issue, and their project, "Learn Sign Share," truly impressed the judges.

#TeamDrama at Queens Theatre for National Theatre Connections RVHSDRAMA
Since October a small but determined group of students, fromYear 9 toYear 13, have been working on this year's NTConnections play. Fishville, a story about a group of teenagers in a remote coastal town, a missing boy, and a chorus of angry voices, which represent the sea itself, is a brand new play byAfsaneh Gray, which received its premier last week, with our performance at QueensTheatre, Hornchurch
The group's efforts on stage were assisted by a crack team of Year 12s, who very much took the reins on this year's show, directing the actors, bringing the company in for additional rehearsals, painting the set and planning the light and sound. Mr Wilson was very proud to see how everyone in the company pitched in, supported each other, and kept their nerve as they prepared to perform at this large, professional venue.
"I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to take part in NT connections I’ve been part of the process for the last previous years and it's always given me the opportunity to meet and work with people across different year groups, but also to see how hard work comes together, and always pays off The experience of performing live at a theatre has been incredible, and given me the chance to see a different side of drama other than what I'd experienced in class I would encourage anyone to join NT because of how fun and rewarding the experience is " - Hannah, Y12
"I loved the experience mainly because it was my first time doing a serious play. Normally I take part in school productions, which are more playful, with singing and dancing I loved it a lot I did find the process of learning it a bit hard My favourite part of the day is the free pizza from Papa Johns! We were allowed however many slices we wanted! I think it is a good day out We got to watch another school perform and some of us socialised with them. It was awesome I definitely recommend doing this next year also for those people who are doing drama for a GCSE " - Jessica,Y9
"I really enjoyed working with the rest of the cast in the National Theatre Connections production: Fishville It was a memorable experience that allowed the group to express themselves away from judgement. I did not pick Drama as a part of my Year 9 options, which shows anyone can do drama, if they like it. I was a member of the Sea, the chorus, and it was fun working with the other members to represent a vengeful body of water that “crests higher and higher in the storm that we, in our power, invoked” due to the trespassing of the humans upon it The Sea was just frustrated at how the humans “try to subjugate us” when “we were their deity” in the past, and are “polluting the water” yet “don’t care”. Furthermore, some of the characters in the ensemble disregard climate change, and say that “all this stuff about rising sea levels is just panic”. Fishville shows us how the “it’s just the sea” sentiment is inappropriate for the damage the ocean can do to humanity; we should be respecting the sea, not destroying it; and it also shows we need to improve how we treat the environment - bad things will happen if we don’t " - Alex,Y10

On 1 May, we had the pleasure of hosting our school Roding Valley High School Mini-Marathon, and we are thrilled to report it was a fantastic success! We had over 120 students lace up their trainers and take part, joined by a fantastic turnout of staff members who ran alongside them.
The event was held to raise money for Panathlon, a charity very close to our hearts. Many of our own students have achieved great success and gained immense confidence through the opportunities Panathlon provides. Seeing the school community come together to give back to a charity that has done so much for our pupils was truly inspiring.
I am delighted to share that we raised £287 for this wonderful cause.Amassive thank you goes out to all the students and staff who made the atmosphere so positive, and to the parents for your incredibly kind donations.

Explore together: Ask your child to show you their favourite websites and apps and what they do on them. Listen, show interest and encourage them to teach you the basics of the site or app

Help your child identify trusted adults who can help them if they are worried: This includes you and other adults at home, as well as adults from wider family, school or other support services who they are able to contact at this time. How to Log on to Google Classroom?
Classroom
Students can log into their Gmail using their school email address and their password Their school email will be the year they started at RVHS started plus their first initial and surname @rodingvalley.net (example- 19plarkin@rodingvalley.net).
Once yourchild has have logged in, they will need to click on the google apps button and then select ‘Google Classroom’
Your child will then be able to see all of the classes they belong to. They will then need to click on the class they want to use resources for and take a look at everything that their class teacher has posted for them to work on. They will be able to download items and make comments on them Teachers will be regularly posting new work on their Google Classrooms
What to Do if your child is a Missing a Subject their Google Classroom?
If your childis missing a Google Classroom for one of their subjects, they will need to click on the addition symbol, followed by ‘Join Class’ and then enter the Class Code for their missing subject Class Codes are available from their subject teacher
