We have officially entered a busy season of assessments GCSE Art and Music exams have now commenced, and we have been incredibly impressed by the focus and creativity shown by our students As a reminder, formal A Level and GCSE examinations will continue over the next few months
Next Tuesday morning, we will be walking our students through our lockdown procedure. This is a routine exercise and part of our commitment to school safety Carrying out these drills is considered good practice as it allows students to familiarise themselves with the process in a calm environment, providing them with confidence and reassurance.
A huge congratulations to everyone who took part in our first-ever Roding Valley Mini Marathon! We had a fabulous turnout from both our student body and staff community. It was wonderful to see so much school spirit and determination on display.

Year 8 has made a fantastic start since returning from the Easter holidays, and it has been wonderful to see such positive attitudes and engagement across the year group However, I would like to remind students about our expectations regarding uniform, particularly skirt length (no rolling), ensuring blazers are worn at all times.
Ahuge well done to all students who took part in the Mini Marathon held at school on Friday 1 May. It was a real pleasure to see the enthusiasm and determination shown, and we are incredibly proud of the amount of money raised for the fantastic charity Panathlon. ANote on Option Choices: We are fully aware that students have now received their option choice lessons and are looking forward to their new subjects However, it is crucial that students remain fully engaged in all of their current lessons

The GCSEs have finally started and we are into the exam season It is really important to realise that the exam season will go on through May and June Some students will have back to back exams and it is highly pressurised I would like to emphasise how important it is that students take time to relax and re-charge to ensure that they are able to tackle the next couple of months
Last week Mr Cocker ran revision sessions during period one This was an opportunity to share the exam timetable with the year group Students were asked to highlight all of their exams They have also been able to focus on key points in subjects that will have an impact on their final results

This is a reminder that there will be interventions running during and after school as well as during May half term. I hope to share the timetable with you soon.
l would like to draw your attention to the Brook Library Asixth form study space which is overseen by Mrs Parton, our study supervisor It is a quiet space with revision resources, a computer suite and chromebooks which students can use It is used by sixth formers after school and we invite your child to join this mature and proactive working environment to support them with their revision in the coming weeks and months It will be open to year 11 until they go on study leave in May, every Monday -Thursday We look forward to welcoming them into this space and supporting them with their GCSEs in the coming weeks and months
As always our uniform expectations are incredibly high We will expect these standards to be maintained throughout the rest of the year Students are expected to be in the correct shoes and wear their blazers Should you require any assistance with this, please make your child’s form tutor aware and we will help any way we can.

Eight years later and back to where it all started! We were absolutely delighted to welcome back alumnus Lauren Humphries to speak with our current students about her incredible professional journey, from Apprentice to a qualified Chartered Accountant at Azets
Lauren gave students a fantastic insight into the pathway to becoming a Chartered Accountant via an apprenticeship, proving that an apprenticeship is a powerful launchpad for a successful career Hearing about her transition from school leaver to a professional environment was eye-opening for our students and hearing about the opportunities available for students at Azets was really inspiring.

Our weekly employer talk on Tuesday 28th April was from our very own school Governor Bradley O’Connor, Chief Information Officer at Sompo
Roding Valley Sixth Form Students were treated to a deep dive into Technology and Insurance careers. Unveiling the exciting world of insurance from Broker to Actuary and Project Management to Data Science in Tech, gave students such a detailed insight into the careers available.

PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE MONTH
It has been a high-energy term in the Photography studios as students across all year groups push the boundaries of their creative vision.
Year 10 have officially launched their major coursework unit: "Identity." They are currently diving into the works of various professional photographers to find inspiration for their own portfolios. What makes this project so exciting is the level of personal agency involved; every student is taking a different path, ensuring that their final collections will be entirely unique and reflective of their individual perspectives.
Year 11 are at a critical milestone as they prepare to sit their Photography Exams. They have spent weeks rigorously exploring their exam topics, developing concepts, and refining their technical skills. We are incredibly proud of their dedication good luck, Year 11! We can’t wait to see your final outcomes.
Year 12 are currently immersed in their Personal Investigation topics. This is a deep dive into themes of their own choosing, and we are already seeing some incredibly sophisticated and unique digital edits. The level of experimentation with post-production techniques is helping them transform standard shots into professional-grade art pieces.

2026 UK Chemistry Olympiad
We are proud to announce the outstanding results of our sixth-form students in the prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry UK Chemistry Olympiad 2026. Earlier this year, six of our most dedicated chemistry students stepped up to the challenge, sitting the grueling Round 1 paper Designed to challenge and inspire, the two-hour written exam pushes students far beyond the standardA-level curriculum. It tests critical problem-solving skills, creative thinking, and the ability to apply fundamental chemistry knowledge to complex, real-world situations—from the thermodynamics of novel fuels to intricate organic synthesis.

Explore together: Ask your child to show you their favourite websites and apps and what they do on them. Listen, show interest and encourage them to teach you the basics of the site or app

How to Log on to Google Classroom?
Classroom
Students can log into their Gmail using their school email address and their password Their school email will be the year they started at RVHS started plus their first initial and surname @rodingvalley.net (example- 19plarkin@rodingvalley.net).
Once yourchild has have logged in, they will need to click on the google apps button and then select ‘Google Classroom’
Your child will then be able to see all of the classes they belong to. They will then need to click on the class they want to use resources for and take a look at everything that their class teacher has posted for them to work on. They will be able to download items and make comments on them Teachers will be regularly posting new work on their Google Classrooms
What to Do if your child is a Missing a Subject their Google Classroom?
If your childis missing a Google Classroom for one of their subjects, they will need to click on the addition symbol, followed by ‘Join Class’ and then enter the Class Code for their missing subject Class Codes are available from their subject teacher
